Over multiple visits I've come away with pieces that anchor my apartment: an Indo-Persian repoussé silver tray, cut crystal, a vintage Chinese vase, and most recently the bronze bust in the photos. The selection rotates constantly and the quality rivals shops charging several times the price. The proceeds support children in need, the volunteers are gracious and knowledgeable, and the whole experience feels like Georgetown at its best. If you love the hunt, put this place on your list.

But their offers are not great and the evaluator was a bit fussy about what he wanted. He did suggest donating to friends of the library. So I don't bother trying to bring the books I am surrendering. (Which is a tough thing for me to do, but it needs to be done!)

But today's experience deserves a special shoutout to Ye and Trey, who were absolutely lovely! I went in to buy my first refillable leather journal and officially joined what I'm calling the "refillable journal club." Ye and Trey spent so much time showing me all the ways I could customize it and really make it my own. I added cute charms and clips, had my nickname embossed on the front, and they even took the time to teach me about pens and fountain pens. I left with my very first fountain pen! What stood out most was how genuinely passionate they both are about what they do. They were so excited for me to start my first little collection book and even welcomed me "to the club." It made the whole experience feel so personal and fun. I probably spent an hour in the store, and the customer service was exceptional. As a business owner myself, I kept thinking that I would LOVE to have Ye and Trey on my team. They were knowledgeable, patient, kind, enthusiastic, and incredibly generous with their time. If you're a planner (or pen) junkie, there's literally something for everyone here, and I found their prices to be varied enough that there was something for every budget. Did I need another set of pens, a new sticker, and a purse-sized notepad? Probably not! Did I buy some anyway. Absolutely! Janna also walked me through some detailing of a vintage piece that has been in my family since forever and distressing of a picture frame -- as in, countless messages back-and-forth until I felt completely comfortable. And it came out with fabulous results. On top of the top-notch work, it's wonderful to support a small business. While shopping, I had to go to the bathroom but wanted to keep browsing so looked for a bathroom. I saw a couple of people (white people) come out of the restroom, even though the door said "Employees Only." I asked the woman at the register if there was a restroom available, and she told me, "No, our bathroom is not public but you can go to California Tortilla and use theirs." I returned to my fiancé, who was waiting near the bathroom, and overheard another employee tell a different customer, "We don't normally let people use the bathroom because there are boxes in there, but we can make an exception (white customers) I mentioned that I had just been told the restroom was not public, and the employee responded, "Yeah, but we can make an exception for her, not you," in what felt like a very dismissive and condescending tone. The interaction left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Consistency and respectful communication with customers of all skin tones is important, and unfortunately that was not my experience here. Definitely recommend buying on stores like Amazon and not supporting this behavior.
