Byrdland was the only record store in DC that was advertising a listening party for Tame Impala's…read morenew Deadbeat album on the 17th of October, the other was a spot out in Baltimore. And the event was free! This reminded me of the Pennsylvania Ave. Tower Record Days in the early 90's, when all you had to do was show up and it was a party onsite. Damn, I miss the old DC. Anyways, I reserved a ticket on DICE, when I got there no one asked about a ticket, which was great. They were just happy people came! You could choose from a button, sticker, and some other promotional item. Of course they had the vinyl for sale, I did have a chance to check out their selection of records, appeared pretty diverse, however, I am not a collector of vinyl so, don't take my word for it. The staff, of two men were hospitable, showed me to the listening room, a large area in the back where people were sitting around having casual conversation. It was around 25 people or so. The sound system was good. I'd already heard the album that morning and in my unsolicited opinion my favorite tracks so far are No Reply and My Old Ways. I'm waiting on the remixes and collabs. Met some cool people. Didn't feel rushed. They looped it and played the album again for the late comers, which I appreciate. There was a drawing where two guests won a free album and some other promotional items. Byrdland does listening parties regularly, so get ready if you're a Florence & The Machine fan (event already posted). Byrdland has picked up on the much needed, meet- in- person over music tradition that we've all been missing. And I love it!

Disappointed with their small selection of CDs, I thought they would have much more. Still,…read moreextremely cool interior and tons of variety.

This bookstore is awesome! When I went on a Friday afternoon recently, it was pretty calm and…read morequiet. Not too crowded which I liked as it can get pretty tight since there's many books and many shelves. Service was fine although I didn't really talk to many people while there (was more preoccupied with finding the books and checking them out). I'd say this place has great value as the books i got (3) were charged a total of just under $5. I can see why the staff put up flyers stating to be mindful with how many books the customers get as they're priced pretty low, allowing you to collect a decent amount. I'll definitely be back to check this place out again :)

Housed in a large…read morewarehouse within walking distance of the Twinbrook Metro station, Second Story Books houses over 500,000 used books on literally every topic. Want three aisles of kids books like Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys? Go here. Need every book C.S. Lewis wrote? Stop by Second Story Books. After visiting nearby ZavaZone with our seven-year-old daughter, we stopped into Second Story for a few minutes, which easily turned into an hour. Every book is 50% off. We left with 15 books for just under $21. The books are well organized and maps help navigate visitors to each section, but know that the warehouse's narrow book aisles can get cramped. It adds to the appeal! There are even harder-to-find rooms with other items like posters for sale. They also sell CDs and DVDs. Staff are helpful. I lost my wallet and within an hour a staff member messaged me on Facebook letting me know they found it and it was safe at the checkout desk. If you have used books, Second Story Books buys them from people.
