MOJO is locally and woman owned and serves up a full-body, beat-based workout on a bike, where classes are led by high energy instructors and choreographed to challenge all fitness levels. They have classes from beginner to advanced, from climbing to power, and even some fun theme rides (oh Beyoncé v Lizzo ride )! The studio itself is dim and vibey, and just what I need to block out the world and focus on the music and me. Plus all the super cool people on the surrounding bikes, who have been nothing but kind and inviting every time I've been there. MOJO offers a complementary Basics class every Saturday, so this is your sign to sign up for some fun, and then join me for an upcoming class. Because I honestly can't get enough! ‍

Time to get your sweat Oooon!! Great, clean space for a fantastic work-out. When class starts, lights get dimmed, so you can move to the music's beat (or not, in my case) without feeling self-conscious. The only pressure is to do your best! Amanda is AMAZING! Super motivational with a great playlist to cycle to, she really works her MOJO on students to push themselves, and is a great resource for newbies (open to questions at the end of class). Pricing is a little high, but location in the Plaza is very accessible. First class is complimentary (FREE); and they do have package deals. You can also try groupon to see if you can knock off a few more $$.

Birthday ride! #womenleaders

Mojo is the place. Bad day, need some motivation, need to push the reset button on life or your mind. Spin in genera I think is a great way for this. For me though I really connect with the instructors at mojo. Their motivation and chat during class really just leaves me walking out with a total body and mind reset. Their music is legit. Their no tech rule is where it's it. Just you. The bike. The music. Close your eyes. Move to the rhythm. Feel the beat. Amanda the owner is the real MVP and has such a great soul. Katie M has the best playlists and will always leave you smiling along with a good ass kick. Michael is straight BEAST mode. Seriously have no idea how he does it. Do his 75 min class. You won't regret it. Lindsey is my jam too! Beats for days. A lil gangster when you need it. Lol "drink water, wash your hands" from day one. Love you guys!

Awesome Men's bathroom.

Wow! Wow! Wow! I found this studio on ClassPass and was unsure what to expect. I was so impressed by this studio in my hometown. As a visitor from Chicago I have access to Soul Cycle, Flywheel and countless other cycling studios and I can say with confidence this studio would be at home in bigger cities. The bikes seem new, the lighting in the studio is INCREDIBLE (one of my favorite touches) and the bathrooms are so so nice. I wasn't so much down with all the flexing and moving on the bike, because I like to straight up cycle. But hey, always time to try something new, right? The owner has definitely put a lot into the launch of this independent studio. KC, support her!

This studio has…read moretaught me so much - in fact, I learned the basics here that have kept me going as a yoga lover. I have been going on and off here since 2018 (pre-pandemic). Once we were able to attend classes again, I was very impressed by their dedication to keeping their clients staying safe and feeling that they were in the right hands. I have been attending classes - a few of which are free! They have 2-3 classes a week that are free to introduce you to the studio and to the art of yoga! Following their social media and keeping in touch with the studio will help you figure out when these classes happen. One of my favorite classes that this studio has to offer is "sculpt." They incorporate weights into a traditional yoga setting. This turns the class into s a full-body workout. As a male, there are times where I may not "fit in" to yoga and fitness classes, but here I felt welcome. I feel that this is a workout that other males may also benefit from. They have sessions throughout the entire day. Be sure to check the schedule and plan ahead of time as spaces fill up.

I'm not new to yoga, I'm not new to heated yoga, I'm not new to HIIT. I attend 3-5 heated vinyasa classes a week when I'm home. I signed up for a midday "Hot Yoga" class, literally, that's the name of it. Were there some references to yoga poses? Sure...but that was the extent of the yoga element. The class was heated, so they got that right too I suppose but this was not yoga. There was no emphasis on the breath or correctly getting into poses and utilizing your strength. If you want a HIIT workout and to "feel the burn" then this is the class and studio for you. If you're hoping for heated, thoughtful, meaningful vinyasa this is definitely not the spot. I didn't love the "pep" talk the teacher gave as class got started either, "what are you hear to sweat away today? What are you working for?" Yikes. The people working were friendly and the gal teaching was well meaning I imagine and kind, I'm sure she's not in charge of naming the classes or writing the descriptions. Parking was easy. The studio was pretty and clean. Large locker rooms too.

This studio location is conveniently and poshly located on the country club plaza and has been open for two years. But, there are multiple metro locations here in Kansas and Missouri, and if you're traveling, you're bound to find a pure barre studio! So, you're never far away from a "lift, tone, and burn"! If you've never danced in your life or if you're in retirement from high school, college, or (lucky you), professional dancing pure barre brings the spirit and discipline of dance conditioning, as well as pilates and hints of yoga, to a full body workout. With multiple class formats and different choreography (but not in the cardio dance class sense) week to week you, and you muscles, will never get bored. The teachers here are so knowledgeable that they are always offering and encouraging variations to the exercises to accommodate beginners (as well as level ups for more advanced class takers). They also offer hands-on (only if you're comfortable) corrections, which improve form and make sure injuries and soreness are minimal. Also, if you thrive on praise and verbal incentives, then pure barre is your place. They make it a priority to learn your name and make every class personable. The instructors are pure barre plaza, which are so well trained and are never slacking; they add so much to the community. It's one of the only fitness studios I've been to where you are used to catching a teacher in another teacher's class on their day off. Tuck Yeah! Pure Barre Rocks

However, it can get busy there and the hot tub chlorine does sting my eyes a bit. There is also a steam and dry sauna there (both men and women in there). Parking is also difficult to find close by with how many people go there now. The women's locker room was nice, but honestly I expected the showers to be nicer and more modern. We stopped by the cafe on the way out. I tried the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The grilled cheese had apples in it and had good flavor. However, the tomato soup just tasted like thick, sour, tomato paste. It was not creamy like typical tomato soup.

Coming from Los Angeles and the Heimat gym where I pay $350/month, I was excited to try this gym... but this gym is clearly nothing but a wanna-be elite gym. I've decided from past experiences, I wanted one where I could easily freeze my membership due to work travel. I wanted a gym in my area, that was less than 10 minutes away....well, I found it. I received in the mail, a flyer saying the membership fee of $29 was waived in January for Roc fitness. I chose today to go and check it out. It's a small gym, with a small equipped weight room. The weight room has set of circuit machines for upper and lower body. There's cardio machines upstairs. There's also a 14 lap walking track. They have shower rooms with lockers. Overall, it's a pretty nice place. Great price, too: $22 a month. There's a $5 locker fee if you decided to get a permanent locker, and they charge a one time fee for the usb key to program a workout. I like that idea, and am going to do that. The classes change per season. I am interested in the adagio class, and the zumba classes. The staff were very helpful, and they arrange for an orientation, after you join. There's a cafe with, from what I've heard, the best French fries in Raytown. I suppose the gym is supposed to counter act the calories in the French fries? . Edit: This place grows on you.
