I came to Moises Gomez & Associates to rectify a couple oversized denim pants I bought. The waist was incredibly loose and the pant length was exaggerated. Carlos was masterful with his hemming, waist alterations and made these pants look and fit infinitely better. To top it off, he's just a very amiable guy and great with communication. Carlos, the owner, has been altering my clothes for years. It seems that anytime I buy something new he needs to shorten it and sometimes let it out (:-(). He thinks I am a good model and has offered to make me some custom business pants and a business dress suit. Instead I bartered to have him make me a halloween costume and I would help him with his PR attempts. Please keep in mind, if I was not absolutely flabbergasted by his craftsmanship I would not even have him touch my clothes. But, I feel incredibly lucky to have him as my tailor and would shout it from the mountain tops if I could. He is a diamond of a find!!! Carlos has worked as a tailor in Lafayette for 19 years. This is his first business. He is a second generation tailor, his father before him. He can make anything as simple as a blanket to as complicated as a wedding dress. He cares about this customer's happiness and will bend over backwards to make them happy. He is also responsible for leading a team of seamstress' and tailors in Mexico where they create the Mexican Sailor's uniforms. I have had several items altered by Carlos and every one has turned out beautifully. The tailoring went beyond the usual and included advanced alterations like re-doing the shoulders of a sport coat. Carlos worked with me to make sure I was satisfied with the results--even having me come in for multiple fittings when necessary and explaining in as much detail as I wanted the process by which he made the alterations. He respects and follows the tailoring traditions of the original makers of garments and can handle anything from everyday clothes all the way up to super expensive Italian suits (like Kiton and Cucinelli). I came here because of the fantastic Yelp reviews, I had fantastic service, so now it's my turn to leave a fantastic Yelp review. I bought a dress for my boyfriend's birthday party. A beautiful, sexy, black, delicate crochet dress. After a few cocktails and friendly rough housing, the dress ripped across my back left shoulder. I cried. I went to sleep. I woke up. I went on Yelp. I found Carlos. I brought it in on a Monday, I was leaving for New York on Thursday and wanted to take the dress on the trip with me. Carlos said he couldn't make any promises because it was prom season (god dammit) but that was ok with me, I understood. He calls me on Wednesday to let me know my dress was ready for pick up! I've been meaning to write this review for a very long time. I've been using Carlos and sending all my family to him for 15 years! It doesn't matter if the dress is from Neiman Marcus or Target... He can make any piece look like an expensive item. He has an eye for what is flattering for my figure. This review is for the customer service, not for the skill of the tailoring because I didn't make it that far. I went for a quote on a wedding dress alteration. First, he ran out to take trash to the dumpster, didn't wash his hands when he returned, and started touching my white dress. He didn't ask me to try on the dress, just threw it on the table and yanked it off the hanger. I am not exaggerating - he was not gentle AT ALL with my dress which has a delicate illusion neckline and sheer material. He kept tugging at the lace appliqué and said it seemed glued on. I pointed out the stitching because I was afraid if he kept tugging on it he was going to rip it off. I needed the bust area tightened and I was told by another tailor (one who specializes in wedding dress alterations and actually had me try on the dress) this could easily be achieved by adding an extra clasp. When I asked the price of doing the same thing with Carlos, he said that he doesn't do "home remedies" and if I wanted "something like that" I should go somewhere else. Instead he wanted to charge me $75/hour to remove all the lace appliqué, take in the sides, then reapply the lace AND he could not give me an estimate on how many hours this would take. This seemed excessive and I felt insulted by his "home remedy" comment, which insinuates that what I'm asking for is cheap or beneath him. I only asked because if there is an easier and less destructive way to alter the dress, why not do that instead? I left feeling insulted and upset by how I was treated. Carlos, I think you should treat all your clients kindly and with respect, even if you disagree with them. read more

Carlos worked magic and brought it back to life -- all for a reasonable price! So what can I say about Carlos? Only wonderful things. I've known him for about 8 years now and right from the beginning he has done excellent work on everything I have brought in. The real test came down to my daughter's wedding dress...she got a deal when she bought it and saved a lot of money but the dress was the only one left and 8 sizes too big. Well, Carlos decided to take on this challenge and altered the dress to fit her like a glove...she looked absolutely beautiful and what Carlos did was no easy feat. She was so happy. I always say it's all about the fit and Carlos will make anything you take in there look like it was custom made for you. Carlos is great! I had taken a custom made pea coat from an online vendor for alterations to another tailor and it ended up unwearable, so I had it remade and took it to Carlos because of all the positive reviews. I was very satisfied with his customer service. He pinned the coat and asked me about the fitting and gave me opinions and reasons for why certain places would be ideal to alter. The back of my coat was a little loose, but if it were taken in it might be tight across the back, so he gave me the option of coming in to try it on after he had sewn but not cut the fabric, at no extra cost. He was right about it being too tight, so I ditched that alteration. The coat turned out great and he told me a bit about the make of my coat. This was almost a year ago, so I don't remember the specific alterations, but it only came to $38. I needed a suit, so I went to Carlos for advice. He makes suits, but as a college student they were out of my price range, so he gave me some options. He gave me my approximate size, and suggested some retail locations and websites . I ended up getting a suit from Overstock, and a dress shirt from American Apparel. Again he was able to help me with the fit, and told me which alterations were less crucial for a good looking suit. The alterations came to around $100, most of the cost was for altering the sleeve length of the dress shirt. He even altered the length of my tie. I dropped off some dry cleaning Saturday and one of the shirts needed to be sent back for a stain that could not be removed, but I needed it today and the stain was below the tuck-line on the shirt, so I picked it up anyway, but was not charged for the stained shirt. He's very accommodating, and is able to give you accurate estimates on the look and feel of alterations, as well as the amount of time necessary to complete the alterations. He really is interested in your satisfaction. read more

I moved to Lafayette about a year and a half ago. My husband originally went to Carlos to get a suit hemmed and the experience was great. Everyone that works in the shop is incredibly friendly and helpful, not to mention that they do a wonderful job on the clothes. Carlos is full of great ideas and my husband and I ended up using Carlos to make all the ties and pocket liners for our wedding. He told us the best place to get the materials, even giving us the name of the person to ask for. Everything turned out so well, we couldn't have been happier. I have gone to Carlos for everything from fixing zippers, hemming jeans to creating a head piece for the wedding and everything turned out so well, not to mention that the customer service can't be beat. I went to Carlos because of the raving reviews I read on Yelp. And I can tell you, I was NOT disappointed. I brought several items to be taken in, he did a FANTASTIC job on them. Two of the skirts were still just a little big, I might have lost a little more weight, Carlos was so sweet and took them in no charge and they fit perfectly. While I was there waiting to be fitted, he noticed the sweater I was wearing had a small seam that had opened up on the shoulder, he offered to fix it and fixed it right there on the spot. He is so wonderful. It is great to finally find a Tailor that I can trust. I plan to bring many more items to Carlos to do his magic on. I keep losing weight, I think I am going to keep him in business for a long time. :) read more

This review is to share my experience with taking two dresses in for tailoring - a bridesmaid dress, and my wedding dress. For both, the fit was fantastic, but the execution and service were lacking. First, for my bridesmaid dress, Carlos told me that he had "spilled something" on it, which he then had dry-cleaned to correct. It seemed that the spot had come out, and I figured, mistakes happen, he'd come recommended, and the fit was great, so I trusted him to tailor my wedding dress a few months later. I shouldn't have. For my wedding dress...first, he mixed me up with another customer - he expedited tailoring for this other customer's wedding dress instead of mine. He hadn't yet touched my dress, and so I'd made an unnecessary trip. In general, he seemed to be handling my dress very roughly and I even saw him drag it on the floor, but he insisted the floors were clean... Later, I found out that could not be true because, during my final fitting, there was a roach in the dressing room. Gross! And last, but not least, in trying my dress on the day before, and the day of, I noticed that the workmanship was very poor. There were many loose threads and parts of the hem were not even completed. I did not trust him with my dress at all at that point, and so my friends and family did what they could to correct the many apparent mistakes. Most shockingly, one sleeve was sewn on so poorly that it came apart on the day of my wedding, and a friend had to sew it on moments before I walked down the aisle. In short, while Carlos clearly has an eye for fit, and many years of experience, I would not trust him with a wedding dress, or any other important article of clothing. read more

I can only echo what the others have written. Carlos has done work for us for more years than I can remember. His tailoring skills are second to none and he's never not had something ready when promised. Equally important is his dedication to service and genuine interest in people. He always makes time to visit with customers and personally tend to their needs, even when it's clear he has considerable work on his table. Carlos was great to work with! I ordered a bridesmaid dress at Gesinee's Bridal and when it came in I was very disappointed with how it fit. After getting attitude from the folks that work there, I decided to take the dress somewhere else for alterations. Carlos was recommended to me be a couple people and I'm so happy I went to him. Wonderful tailor who took my daughter's equestrian outfit down two sizes. Carlos was wonderful to work with and knows exactly what he needs to do to make things fit correctly. Our job was not an easy job. He needed to take the outfit apart and take it in quite a bit to make it fit my daughter perfectly. This included taking in the shoulders, the chest, waist... slimming the sleeves and taking up the tails. After a few fittings to ensure that he got it right, he finished right on schedule. The outfit looks great on her - very polished and I am very glad to have found him. I will trust him completely with my own clothing and plan to have him make some shirts and vests for my daughter. I wish our experience had been as good as the rest. Based on the excellent reviews here I took a newly purchased suit in for alterations. The service then was excellent. The price was within reason. Then I was asked if one month was OK for a pick-up date. I wasn't happy about it but agreed. Then, on the date it was promised, my wife went in and they had not even started it. It was a half hour drive there. Ouch. Enough said - I won't return. read more

Carlos is AMAZING! Hands-down the best tailor I've ever worked with. I came in about 7 weeks ago with my wedding dress to get it tailored for my wedding this past weekend. I was on a serious time crunch, and needed a fair amount of alterations done, but Carlos was very calm, and said he could make it happen. My dress was strapless, with a long train, and I wanted him to cut off the train (and hem the dress), and make swoopy straps with the material. It took a few fittings to get the straps figured out, but he completely outdid himself with the final product. The bodice of my gown is very finely pleated, and he mimicked the pleats perfectly on the sleeves. By the time I picked my dress up last week, it was absolute perfection, and I felt incredibly beautiful and confident wearing it. I will continue to take my clothes to him for tailoring. If you have any doubts at all, just let them fall away when you put your tailoring needs into his capable hands! read more
