After the alignment, they told us the tires needed balancing as well, so we agreed to that. They took the car on three test drives and assured us each time that it was running "smooth" and everything "looked good." We were told maybe we had "bad" tires or possibly a problem with the transmission and sent on our way. Saying the Volvo was driving "smooth" couldn't have been further from the truth. The moment we got in the car, it was vibrating and bouncing just as badly as before. It genuinely felt like they wanted us out the door rather than taking the time to diagnose the real issue. When we got home, a simple Google search pointed to bad CV joints and control arms. We took the car to Tire Works in Bullhead City, and they confirmed exactly that. It's hard to believe Stockton Hill Tires didn't catch something so obvious. Tire Works replaced the parts, and now our Volvo drives perfectly. The staff at Stockton Hill Tires were friendly, but friendliness doesn't fix a car. Whether they didn't know what they were doing or just didn't want to deal with it, the result was the same. Based on our experience, I can't recommend them. Tire Works in Bullhead City, on the other hand, got the job done right.

He told us there was a repair he could do that would fix the problem if it was only that part, told us how much it would cost, and that if it didn't work, then it was the engine that had failed. We chose to try that and he got the repair done right away. Sadly, it turned out to be the engine, so we had to shop for a new car after we got to Utah (in a rental). We were driving from Phoenix after getting the oil changed on our 2016 BMW X5 xDrive40e when the original shop failed to tighten the oil filter correctly, causing a major oil leak and leaving us stranded about 75 miles outside of Kingman. AAA towed us to Holden Automotive, and even though we arrived around 7 AM, Christian and the team jumped right on the car and took great care of us. They were professional, kind, honest, and understood the urgency of our situation. After a long stressful night on the side of the road, it was such a relief to find a shop willing to help immediately and get us safely back on the road. We asked around and we referred to D and S auto and are so happy! First of all, they were not snotty or stuck up or arrogant when they saw how old my car was. They seem to respect older vehicles here and keeping them going. Not only did they give me a clear, honest estimate, but they did even more than we asked for, and quick, as we were on the road We're planning on spending a lot of time in Kingman. By the way, we had a juicy burger and beers at the brewery in "Old Kingman" afterwards. The price was unbelievable.... 1/3 what I'd pay in California. Next time, If I can get there, I will drive all the way from San Francisco or LA just to get my car fixed here. It runs like a new car now. I explained what was happening and I was told I could bring the car in. After a transmission drain and fill (about 2 hours due to the transmission needing to be warmed up to a specific temperature to check the level properly) we were back on the road and it resolved my issues. They were honest, fast and best of all fair in their pricing. They didn't gouge me or overcharge me for being in a bind. This is a true mechanics shop. They don't have a luxury waiting room with TVs and fancy coffee and snacks. Just simple seats to wait there if you must. I was actually excited when I saw that. Maybe I'm old school but I prefer a shop that is about fixing the cars right for a fair price and about their craft. If you are traveling Route 66 this year with the big 100th year or just in the area and are having issues, I highly recommend this shop.
