    Taro tofu pudding milk tea
    Tamara S.

Was in OBX this week visiting on vacation. Cute store, and the girl making our drinks was fast and nice! The taro tofu pudding milk tea is so good. Absolutely love that the taro is real and not the artificial purple stuff. I have family in Taiwan, so I'm used to drinking milk tea with traditional Asian flavors. I live in a pretty diverse city in the midwest, but there isn't boba this good anywhere over there! Very impressed!

On the left is a strawberry yogurt slushee, super good! And on the right is a classic milk tea with boba(:

So yummy! Only boba shop on the island. Ordering was simple, and the staff were nice and quick!

My all time favorite is their yogurt mango tea slush

Just as good as the ones in NoVa. The drinks are delicious and not as sweet as other chains.

Dumplings were so good, never had ramen like this and was absolutely impressed. Place is also spotless clean, fast and good service, they also accommodated for me to change up my ramen bowl! I like to keep it local and support small businesses and this one I will be back.

I had the sense that Hokkaido is a chain, and this was confirmed. Nevertheless, we had a decent lunch. We are not ramen experts, and I am sure this is kind of like strip mall Chinese, acceptable unless you have been to Japan and can appreciate the difference. We shared Gyoza and Calamari. Both were good, but I particularly liked the Gyoza with thin wrappers, well flavored, gingery pork filling and a tart soy based dipping sauce. Then we shared a bowl of Shoyu Pork Ramen. The bowl was plenty for the two of us and they brought an extra bowl for sharing. I liked the melt-in-your-mouth chashu pork, the egg was salty and delicious. The other additions: bamboo, rubbery tree-ear mushrooms and Nori seaweed all made their own contribution to the bowl. The one I don't really get is the addition of sweet corn kernels. It really does not add value but does not spoil things. The broth was not as rich as I was expecting. It needed something. Ms T added some of the table soy to hers and that helped. We were both wishing that we had saved the unused dipping sauce because addition of the vinegary soy mixture would have livened things up. However, that may not be authentic. Since we were splitting, I had to forego a spicy version of ramen, but they do have it. I think Hokkaido adds something new and different to the strip between Kitty Hawk and Nags Head. This is not really Ms T's thing, but I think I can talk her into a return. I am probably overrating it a bit at four stars, but I enjoyed it and it is better than three stars.

It's been a while, so I was pleasantly surprised to see they renovated a little bit. It looks like there is more seating for groups and they have new touch screens for ordering. One down side to having a self serve option, the people behind the counter acted like they couldn't be bothered to stop their conversation to answer my question. They just did not give friendly vibes lol I ordered the dirty brown sugar milk tea, and unlike most boba shops, this does not come with boba - you have to add it bringing the total for a large close to $8. It was fine, very faint tea taste and not very creamy like a milk tea should be. I also ordered a mango yogurt with star peach jellies. This was pretty sweet but a good, non caffeinated option for my daughter. Overall, I think their drinks are decent but not somewhere I frequent. It cost $27 for two large drinks (one topping each) and one medium drink (one topping)

I went for the classic milk tea with boba -- creamy, balanced, and refreshing without being cloyingly sweet. What stood out here is the setup: the clean, organized counter and the option to order through the self-service kiosk makes the whole process seamless. Even on a busy afternoon, the line moved quickly and my drink was ready in minutes. The staff kept things moving while still being friendly, and the space itself feels bright and uncluttered, a nice break from some of the more chaotic tea shops around. At just over $10, it's pricier than your corner boba spot, but Gong Cha delivers on consistency and quality -- plus I lucked out with a surprise freebie today (always a mood booster). Whether you're a seasoned boba fan or just need a dependable milk tea fix, this location hits the mark. Solid drinks, efficient service, and no stress. That's worth five stars.
