Great Japanese place. Some interesting dishes beside the usual fare, such as Tempura zucchini flower, miso eggplant and a sake menu. Can't remember the name of the sake but served cold, like wine and was the best. Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area.

We chose this sushi place because of it's predecessor - Sushi Station. We were sorely disappointed. By which I mean, Tokyo Express has taken the place of one of the most lacklustre sushi venues south of the city and turned it into an amazing, unique and exciting sushi restaurant that stands out compared to all of it's competitors. The staff do the usual adorably loud greeting when you enter, and offer seating at a booth or at the train. We always opt for the train as it has consistently been magnificently stocked with some of the most exciting and inventive plates I've encountered in my quest for the perfect sushi. They offer water or green tea upon seating and at each table/section of the train they have pots of soy, fresh (mild) Wasabi and pickled ginger. Tokyo Express have all manner of weird and wonderful plates ranging from the classic seared fresh salmon to almond crumbed king prawns, octopus balls, caviare and scallop tarts, fresh Japanese and western deserts and pretty much any type of fun and funky sushi dish you could imagine. I couldn't recommend Tokyo Express more. They have been quiet each time we have dined there and I really hope to rectify this! 5/5 will continue to go back. A quick hint - if you're choosing something that looks like it should be hot, ask them to heat it. Until they get as busy as they need to be, some things won't be piping hot (IE Karage, salt/pepper squid, gyoza) and they're more than happy to re-heat.

My favourite sushi place in Brisbane, wonderful atmosphere, delicious food, cheap and great…read moreservice, it's not flashy, but they sure know how to cook! My husband and I used to live really close but we have moved to the south side, and we still drive across the city to eat here. They have free green Tea and the wait for a table isn't too long, I'm not sure If management had changed but they used to do the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month was every plate for $2! (they didn't serve the super fancy stuff on those nights but it was a great night out to eat till you pop!)

Apparently it gets really crowded at dinner time on the weekends so we had a great experience with it being less busy. The servers were all cheerful, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is bright and colorful with a strong cartoony Japanese theme. Not a place I'd recommend for an intimate date (it gets loud in there!), but more for a group of fun-loving friends and/or family. We ordered a couple rounds each of chicken, beef and vegetable gyoza. All were tasty, but I personally preferred the chicken gyoza over the rest. Make sure to get your gyoza grilled, not poached! We also ordered some agadashi tofu which - word of advice for anyone with a palate like myself and the rest of my party - comes garnished with "fish flakes" which I found to be pretty atrocious. Next time I'll request it without :-) The chicken teriyaki was just okay, and very different from the teriyaki we have in California. The steamed edamame was fresh. The Kirins were flowing so generously that I lost count (thanks, Uncle Ben!). Also, order sake. Just do it.

Cute! As I wanted to go the Hakataya around the corner, and my partner wanted to get gyoza, this was the compromise. So I ordered the newly added Tonkotsu Ramen ($12). It certainly is not up to the levels I'm used to. But does the job to supplement a tray or two of gyoza. The frozen beer slushie: It's novelty certainly does not outweigh the displeasure of drinking this thing. The ultimate beer crime.
