I stopped by Moe's Southwest Grill in Durham with a friend, just looking for a casual bite. If you know Chipotle, you know the vibe...fiesta bowls, tacos, burritos, the works. I always come here and get the same thing, hardly once every week every couple months or so, and i've always asked for an extra bag of chips for my meal; never once have been asked to pay for the extra bag of chips with the meal i purchased. In addition to this i've been to various moe's locations across my state. They never once denied me my free extra chips. This dude says in my face this; new guy i've never seen before, younger teen guy says "Ummm we are going to have to charge you for that" ?!?! Excuse me?? Ridiculous. I didn't cause a scene because i know what it's like to work in food service as I have before for two years of my life. Just though i'd share my experience, i've been here a lot of times and also never been asked to pay extra free chips with my meal until now, they are free but he acted like i had to pay extra it's very frustrating and upsetting knowing I couldn't get extra chips because 3/4 of them are always burnt and I get like 2 scoops. The mexican women are very good hard workers though and always are nice kind and generous towards me. I don't know what his problem was specifically but I don't know If i'll be back here if the foreseeable future. Cashier at the front very rude... I came in and she said rudely "do you have a pickup" I said "yeah it's a DoorDash for Anna" and she... in a rude tone shook her head and said "STILL WORKING ON IT" I just chuckled a little and said "okay, I don't know why you're being rude for no reason" and got ignored. We were shopping nearby and my wife got hungry so we stopped into Moe's for a quick bite. We have not been to this location but had been to others, and actually had a bad experience with service that time. I just got a taco and my wife got a burrito. They seemed to have fewer named burrito options than we remembered. Of course they came with chips and we took advantage of the salsa bar. We used our AARP discount for an even better deal. I work near this Moe's so I go often, the manager (the gu) is really sweet! I feel like he should train his employees a little better to be more patience and understanding though cause at times they rush you and get an attitude lol. But food is always fresh and good. read more

This is truly a shame that this restaurant is open. This is by far the WORSE Moes I have been in. I am willing to work with customer service. But when you have under trained people on the line customer service will always be an issue. The owner and manager needs to go back over procedures and processes. Also who runs out of Queso at 7pm. My son and I went to this location and I will not be going back again my son ordered the Moe meat Moe cheese bowl, he was given two scoops and wasn't charged extra for anything I ordered the Moe meat Moe cheese burrito I was given a half scoop of steak I asked for more and was told I had to pay more where was the Moe meat? I only received a half scoop the first time! Im a heavy set woman so I feel that she was trying to be sarcastic..... If I could give 0 stars, I would. Check your food before you leave out of here or you'll end up with this sloppy mess. The workers weren't that friendly to begin with. I expected something to eat these chips with in the bag--there's nothing. This quesadilla is clearly undercooked and the steak looks like it could've cooked longer as well. Why am I paying $13 for a quesadilla I have to cook when I get home? The presentation is sad and this is just a poor excuse for a meal. I've never really liked moes. But from time to time I give it a chance. I have never been impressed. This particular location is the one to push me over the edge to write a review. I thought I was on my own when I was eating and thinking how terrible my food was. But then my friend and I made eye contact and I knew I was not alone. "I don't know how every ingredient can have no flavor.. have they ever heard of salt?" That is exactly what I was feeling. He put the perfect words to it. Everything taste kind of the same. And the meat taste like a fridge. The only good thing that came from this meal is that I am no longer hungry. The service was also not very good. If the food was better I might have been able to over look the service. But it was just as bad as the food so I will mention it too. My advice to anyone thinking of going here. Stop! Don't do it. There is a Chipotle near by that can only be better than this place. Luckily I don't live near by to ever have to deal with this place again. And in the event that I do find my self in this area. Catering an event can be such a headache and the staff at this location went out of their way to do their best to make sure that I was taken care of. Everything was ready at the counter when I arrived and they were very generous with their time. The catering for our event was delicious and fresh. read more

It was the only filled place near my hotel when I came, so I decided to give it a try. The food was great, but the servings were huge. Although I was very hungry from flying around the whole day, that one burrito made sure I would not be hungry even the day after. They had complementary tortillas, which came as a surprise. I generally dislike burrito places because I can't seem to respond fast enough to the promptings of the workers and end up rattled. (I know-pathetic, right?) So when I do go to these places let's hope they get my order right and it tastes good so it's worth the trouble. What is funny (sort of) is that I was one of two customers in here and they still would ask me what I wanted and I said hold on and then they said it again over and over until who knows what the hell I ordered. Then trying to remember my order and then what my kids wanted I should just hand them a piece of paper. I could eat here every day. The portions are enormous, I always get two meals out of one. I love the way we order, I get to look over the counter and see everything to choose from so I never forget something I would have wished for. The choices of add-ins are plentiful and always good. I'm giving Moe's 4 stars for the soda fountain, which is pretty amazing; I've never seen anything like it. For the price of one cup, you get unlimited refills on an amalgamation of crazy drinks - it's like Cook-out but for carbonated drinks. There's raspberry coca cola, peach-flavored sprite (?), fruit-flavored dasani water - lots and lots of options that you press on a screen and it squirts out. This place gets 3 stars for efficiency and tasty burritos but the service was horrendous! The place was pretty crowded and they had a long line of people wrapped around the restaurant. The servers preparing and taking orders were very quick and efficient in completing orders but the problem arose at the checkout! I will say the majority of the staff was courteous and polite but the lady at the checkout made us feel like we were an inconvenience by interrupting her continuous texting on her cell phone. I had to repeat several times that we had 2 meals on one order and once the transaction was complete she threw the receipt across the counter without looking up. Someone came up and asked the same lady for something and she rolled her eyes and ignored them. How disappointing my most recent experience to Moe's Southwest Grill. The sign on the wall says everyone gets free chips and salsa, but I did not get any chips with my meal and there was a long line of people waiting to order and receive their meals, so I could not get anyone behind the counter to notice me. Moe's SW grill was close to our hotel and decided to try it as it was convenient. Ordered a chicken taco and a chicken burrito bowl. We were hungry so the food hit the spot. The soft taco in my opinion was better than the burrito bowl. read more

After shopping at the Bed, Bath & Beyond off Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd I was hungry and pleasantly surprised to find this Moe's. I'd never noticed it before so I'm guessing it must be pretty new, sure looked that way. I was even more pleased when I saw that they had Joey Burritos for $5.55 with chips and a soda on Mondays. It was a pretty big burrito with lots of toppings, I really enjoyed the chips and their little salsa bar. They have the fanciest soda fountain machine I've ever seen with a digital display. I really like all the Moe's locations I've been to, except for this one. (Three stars, you say? Yes, for the food and cleanliness, and the Coke machine). Let me explain - This is the location closest to both my home and job, and I've stopped in here several times for a burrito before work (or after, if I'm working a dreaded day shift). Never had a problem with the food, or the people preparing it, but whenever I've stopped by on a Monday and gotten the Joey special and added guac, I've caught an attitude from the young lady at the cash register about how I should pay for a homewrecker burrito instead, since it has guac. I mean, I'm not trying to get it for free, charge me for the side of guac already (which would still be less than a homewrecker with the Monday special), but should you really have that attitude when dealing with your customers? If there is a no additions policy with the daily specials, the signs should note that. Otherwise, give me the special with a side of guac, and be nice:) All in all, good food, but that experience that occurred multiple times has left a bad taste in my mouth about this location. read more

The phone tree repeatedly sent us to voicemail. Went in and 2 employees are filling a catering box order while 2 others are standing at the register talking. Manager is one of them and is just holding a broom. One of the guys filling the catering order says he will be with me in a minute. He starts to take my order and I have two items. On one item (burrito) I ask for a little black beans then ask about mushrooms. He replies that they haven't had mushrooms for 3 years (just a bit rudely.) That's fine but he continue to work and not pay attention and POURED the black beans. To the point you couldn't see the rice. So now I'm not loving my order. Basically a bean burrito at this point. The other item was a quesadilla. I know that needs to cook and I'm ok with that. By this time others have come in behind me and they also order quesadillas. The manager and other employee now have decided to jump in and work cause more people are coming in. I pay with an employee- who actually had great customer service- and he tells me it'll be a minute for the quesadilla. I tell him that's ok and I step to the side. The manager tells a couple employees about something with the grill because they take turns going over there and looking at something. Idk what was going on but it took way too long for a quesadilla. There are now 7 people waiting to order. The manager jumps to check the final items in the catering order that was started when I walked in. In the midst of this one employee throws a piece of pico at another. My quesadilla is done and the manager brings it over to the register with my other item that was sitting there in a bag. I tell her it's mine and she doesn't believe me. She turns to the employee that put my item in the bag and he doesn't remember the order. No help. She asked to see a receipt but I didn't have them print one. So she tells one employee to go find the other employee that rung me up to confirm. She literally would not give me my food I ordered and paid for. I was standing there waiting patiently. Not a good handling for the manager. If she paid attention or was actually working/managing as she should, she would know that. I will not return to this location. read more

I'm knocking a star off because this place does not listen. On my most recent visit, I was blown away by how sloppy and awful the food was. I ordered my usual homewrecker burrito and asked for just a little bit of black beans. The lady acknowledged and repeated back that yes, I only wanted a little bit of beans. She plopped more beans in my burrito than meat or rice combined! Not only that, but when it came to the pico, it was almost all water in my burrito - to the point that when she was rolling it up, the burrito started leaking salsa water out of it like a wrung out sponge. Gross!! That is definitely not normal for Moe's pico. Sadly, this has been my experience the last 2 times I've visited and I think I'll stick to Chipotle from here on out. Ick. read more
