We had a lovely experience at Moena. After traveling by car all day, we were happy to find this great restaurant in a very friendly town. The restaurant, in a restored 5&10 store was charming. Our waitress, Brandi, was friendly and offered suggestions as to what to order. Service was quick, drinks were delicious as was dinner and dessert (which was not needed, but tasted great!). Hidden Gem! Found this place after the burger joint decided to close 45 mins early on a Friday. The homemade pasta was delicious and the coconut cream and Carmel pecan pie was amazing. Definitely head to Moena if you are in Clearfield PA. Delicious Italian food. Friendly and engaging staff. Nice ambiance. Our waitress, Lori, was friendly and a joy to have a conversation with. She also was very good about spacing the courses out such that we didn't feel rushed. The wine selections were a bit limited but what they did have to offer was high quality. The star of the night was the food though. Hats off to the chef(s)! The calamari was cooked perfectly and served with less sweet marinara. The salads were simple but the house-made Italian dressing was very good. The entrees were incredible. My daughter had smoked mozzarella stuffed ravioli in a creamy Alfredo sauce while I enjoyed the cheese tortellini with sausage and sun-dried tomatoes I'd highly recommend both. Loved the flavors. We finished off with a couple of decadent, house-made desserts that were loaded with chocolate and good. Last thing is go hungry. The entrees were very large. Clearly, we could both see people enjoying their dinners, and, after having checked the hours, this was simply not true. Maybe you made a mistake. I understand. But, let's be honest, how often have we dined at your establishment? I'm sure you know me by now, so don't ever, ever do that again to my mother. I remember yours and was polite enough to tip. We took our business elsewhere that night but it's great to see you floundering while you turn two guests of 20 years away because you'd rather lose profit to keep the same people. I am kind of old school. The customer is always right. When I am working in Clearfield I stop by Moena's at least once. The food is pretty good, all the dishes are pretty much what you would find at any Italian restaurant. I would really like to see some different things on the menu since this isn't a chain. Recently I had the veal parmigiana over wheat penne. The meal was fairly good, flavor was excellent, but the penne had not been strained enough watering down the dish. The attire is completely, come as you are. read more

We were overnighting in Clearfield on our way to Western NY. I had high hopes for this place, based on the reviews and based on my personal observation of the restaurant as we drove through town. I realized this wasn't big city eating so my expectations were not over the top. The town was quite charming and the restaurant was on a main drag in a historic building. It was decorated in soft white holiday lights and the interior was welcoming. The floors were wood and creaked when you walked, which added to the atmosphere. It was early Thursday evening and we were seated in a booth, and the first thing I noticed was the green vinyl tablecloths. Not too enticing and a minus to the ambiance. The typeface and the thick laminate on the menus kind of reminded me of a diner. All irrelevant if the food was good. It took forever for the server to arrive. Those extra minutes allowed us to realize that the ratio of staff to patrons was way off. Granted, the place was not packed, but it took some hoofing to get from table to table and there were some larger sized groups. Once we finally ordered some drinks, we settled into some conversation only to be constantly interrupted by folks schlepping boxes to the back of the "house". We thought it odd that they would restock during such a time. The charming floors now turned into annoyance as the heavy footsteps of the couriers sounded like clogging Clydesdales. After some time, the bread basket came and it truly was underwhelming. In this day and age you can get decent rolls just about anywhere, so this was disappointing. Then we noticed a server rumbling a plastic two layered wheeled cart down to the front of the restaurant. It looked like something you would put dirty dishes on not fresh from the kitchen entrees. Weird. Anyway, the salad was just OK, the dressing bottled for sure. The chicken Marsala, although tender had none of the richness of the wine nor any flavor of it either. It was similar to eating something when you have a bad cold. Nada on the taste buds. The pizza, was not wood fired, nor original, for that matter. It resembled a "boli" crust and was topped with too much indistinguishable cheese. Just an all round disappointment. I doubt I will be passing through Clearfield in the near future, but if I am, Moena will not be on our radar. read more

My wife and I both really enjoy this place! We've been there twice so far each getting something different on the menu each time and thoroughly enjoying it. They have bottles of Chimay whixh is an excellent Belgian ale and bottles of a framboise lambic. I can't remember the name but my wife really likes it. One thing that I really liked was that I didn't feel rushed out the door. We had time to sit and chat with a bread basket that is accompanied by seasoned evoo, we had time to eat our salads without our food showing up in the middle of it and our waitress was extreamly attentive the whole time. Some people might like to go to a restaurant get in and get out but at a nice sit down restaurant I like to take my time and not feel like they want me gone to make room for then next couple. We were in Clearfield to attend a concert at the County Fair so the restaurant was very busy, which may have impacted our experience. On one hand, our server was excellent and placed our orders at the head of the line without our requesting any special accommodation. She was only one of two servers so this review is not a reflection of our waitress. Based on other reviews I got a Delmonico with the coffee rub while my wife got the chicken piccata, neither of which were deserving of the three stars. Maybe it was that the kitchen was overwhelmed. Maybe the waitress didn't hear me ask for my steak to be medium temperature. There aren't many other options in Clearfield so we will try it again on a quieter night. The wedding soup was among the best that I have had. My wife liked their Italian salad dressing. We will skip the spinach artichoke dip on our next visit. I will not order the Delmonico as it was not only over cooked, it was less than 1/2 inch thick. My wife makes a much better chicken piccata at home. Maybe she will give them another shot. It is an incredibly quaint building and worth a visit. I hope we have a better experience on a return visit with slightly lower expectations. read more

There's not a ton in Clearfield so this is a great dinner spot if you don't want bar food. The Italian egg rolls came recommended by the server and they were good, and big enough to share. For dinner I ordered the rigatoni with grilled chicken and mushrooms. The dish was hearty and very tasty. The entree also came with either soup or salad and bread. Moena's is the best place around to get a good, quality meal. I love that this is the old five and dime transformed into a restaurant. The wooden floors still creak the same as I remember walking through here as a child. The staff is friendly and it is good for kiddos, especially during lunch. We were impressed - AT FIRST. It is a lovely space, service was prompt, and the waiter personable. My Parmesan crusted flounder was out of this world. My husband's eggplant Parmesan was inedible. The sauce was good. He couldn't eat too much of the pasta due to type 1 diabetes. However the eggplant itself was so undercooked you couldn't cut it with a dinner knife. The worst part is there was no apology. He returned his plate having eaten at the most 1/4 of it and told the server. There was no apology from the manager and no offer of a comp. We weren't looking for a comp but an apology or an offer of a free dessert would have been nice. We travel this way often and would never return. Two stars due to my meal being so good. On a recent Saturday night it was apparent that both locals and those passing through like this restaurant but each group treats it somewhat differently. We saw a young couple in suit and dress come in for a date and a group celebrating a 70+ yr. birthday with a champagne toast in jackets. We also saw a few tables (including ours) dressed casually. Menu is upscale Italian with a selection of meats, seafood and pasta dishes. Cavatelli Geno was served in a generous portion, taste was great. Hampton inn recommended that I come here for steaks, and I was smart on listening to them. The meal started with fresh baked bread, and an oil with some spice (rosemary?) mixed in for dipping. It was good, but adding the cheese made it excellent. I ordered the coffee rubbed delmonico steak, mixed green salad, red potatoes and vegetables. Everything, and I mean everything, was outstanding. But let's talk about the steak. OMFG THAT WAS GOOD! Coffee rub? It sounds so different, but it was incredible. This was a better steak than I get at a much more expensive restaurant. There is a chef here, and the owner is a baker. Dessert selection is also amazing, but I am too full. I hope I can come back to this city. I would definitely come here again! read more
