So I'm not usually writing a review after one visit to an establishment but this time I'll make an exception. I was working in the area and asked for a recommendation on any restaurants that were good. I was working with 8 or so people and I couldn't get a recommendation., so I turns to Yelp and saw Mabel's. They mentioned it wasn't open at our lunchtime. I had some shopping to do after work so I decided to try it for dinner. I am going to say it was the best square cut pizza I've had outside of NEPA ( north eastern Pennsylvania ) if you know you know that's a pretty bold statement. I ordered the white pizza with tomatoes. No toppings . It was perfect, crispy dough with a great dough to cheese ratio. I can't wait to make it back to try the red pizza. The Service was great. Mabel's had good reviews so we headed there, it's a little off the beat and path , near an industrial area. It was take out only and there were a decent number of people getting their pies or slices. I've taken New York City Pizza Tours, Chicago Deep Dish tours and all the rest...loved it all. Honestly though, I would put Mabel's at the top of the list. It is unique in it's own category of pizza: a light airy crust that is crispy on the bottom. Delicious sauce and cheese and always cooked to perfection. I've eaten here for decades and never once had a bad experience. One time, I thought my friend ordered my pizza with his. We drove 20 minutes over to Mabels and it turns out he accidentally did not place my order. Brad still served me a pie, even though I am positive it set him behind as they are always extremely busy, (BTW, call ahead for sure or you will wait due to their phone ringing off the hook for A+ pizza.) Perfect place to get a takeout pizza for dinner if you are traveling on route 80 across PA. They were extremely friendly, it was inexpensive and very tasty. We took our pizza to a little park next to the library and police station down the road by the river and ate at a pavilion covered picnic bench. A small town off I-80 that I had to have stopped in a dozen times on the run from NYC to Detroit and back. Rectangular pies, a Sicilian/Detroit style hybrid is the best way in can describe it.
