My friend and I went for a mani/pedi. They told us they are unable to apply gel over a tip added onto the nail and instead would have to do dip. We have had gel put on with a tip before so voiced our confusion as to what changed and then they agreed to do it. Our nails came out lumpy and broke the day after getting them done. So I've been to thIs salon multiple times before and they have always down a good job painting my nails. Their pug in the waiting area is very cute. When I went o my appointment yesterday the lady did a good job on my nails. However, the whole experience for me was ruined because she made multiple extremely racist comments to me. They weren't about my race, but they were just beyond inappropriate. Her statements made me extremely uncomfortable. The woman getting her nails done next to me was also visibly uncomfortable by the nail technicians remarks. Thinking back now I wish I had said something to the lady about her remarks because I don't think she even realized that what she said was so inappropriate. I also regret tipping her, my nails looked good, but the things she said were so unacceptable that I don't think she should have been tipped. Jack is soooo cute,that's when I was like DONE I'm coming! 5 years ago I used to love going to this place to get my nails done. They used to soak off my acrylics (the right way) and made sure everything was straight and cured before I left. I understand nicking a cuticle every once in awhile. What I don't understand is making 7 out of my 10 cuticles bleed as well as say it's my fault when I saw "ow!" To my hangnails being drilled off instead of clipped off by cuticle scissors. I got black French acrylics around the beginning of the month- not the best. They weren't straight and the shape (I asked for coffin) was wrong (borderline almond). A few days ago I went in for a new set- black square acrylics. Once again, the sides were not straight- my middle finger nail is crooked. The real kicker? Both of my thumbs were not cured all the way. Both of my thumbs are peeling already. He used the drill on too high if a speed and hurt my fingers as well. I will not be going back. It's said I paid $58 just to have to go to another salon and get them redone. read more

DIRTY! I had a scheduled appointment for a pedicure and manicure. The gentleman who did my pedicure just grabbed random tools from his desk, not cleaned or in a sterile bag. So back at the end of November, I went in here to get my nails done for my birthday weekend. First of all, all the employees are very nice, and have a sense of humor. My nail tech was so sweet, especially since I am SO indecisive with anything. She gave me a hella cute Matte black nail with glitter at the top. So happy with them. THERES MORE. I would not recommend this salon. My first visit was great! The gel mani lasted 4 weeks! My second visit was terrible! Within 24 hours after having a gel manicure the gel color started turning yellow and rubbery. After that it just started to peel off. While I was at my appointment the gentleman working there used very foul language towards one of the other technicians. The salon itself is nice, comfortable and pretty modern. I did call the morning of to schedule an appointment and they got me and my mom in right away. I got my nails done on Thursday June 23rd. it cost 50 dollars. The person who worked on me moved fast and it felt rushed. It is now Monday 27th, 4 days later, and one of my nails already broke and the bottoms look like I've had them for a week. I've been going to Modern Nails for 5+ years now and until recently would have given it 5 stars; however, my last few experiences have been disappointing. A common theme over the years has been that appointments are not really honored; I've frequently had to wait 15+ minutes for my appointment, and then wind up being worked on by 2-3 people for every mani or pedi. I've also seen one person working on multiple people at a time (i.e. painting my nails while someone else soaks). I recently went in for a mani/pedi with a friend. We had appointments at the same time, but her pedi started 20 minutes before mine; then I had to wait while the same person did her nails before getting to me. She wound up sitting there for 30+ minutes waiting for me to finish. During this pedi, we were given the option of the 'regular' pedi at $25 or the 'Modern' pedi at $35. I chose the regular pedi, but was charged $65 total (I had been planning on $50, as a gel mani is $25). I didn't realize it at the time, so I called to clarify, and was told that I should have only been charged $50. When I went in to resolve the issue, I was told there was a $15 upcharge for getting gel on my toes, which is why the charge was $65. I don't mind paying extra for gel polish, but $15??? And with no warning?? That's pretty extreme. Finally, I went in for a mani last week. I chose a color for my nails and was told it was a "chrome" color, which turned out to be a base color followed by sparkly powder. The final product was a sparkly peach color, which is great, but they waited until the base color (a bubble gum pink) was on to tell me that the powder cost an extra $8. I just thought it was really inconsiderate. Not to mention, it has been 3 days and most of my nails are chipped - a byproduct of the powder, I assume, as this hasn't been an issue with any other gel mani I've gotten here or elsewhere. A few pros - the salon is very clean, most of the techs are pretty friendly, and the prices (when honored) are reasonable. Sad to say I might have to find a new location. read more

Since it was super early in the morning and my normal salon wasn't open, I decided to try out Modern Nails. I was greeted by a VERY friendly Pug, who I learned was named Jack. I love how they had a little mascot keeping their customers friendly! Jack was very mellow and seemed well content enough for the setting of the salon. I recieved a gel manicure as well as a pedicure. I loved how they used the hot towels to finish off both the mani and pedi, although I only paid for the regular services. I have been searching everywhere for an amazing nail tech. I've been to 10 different salons for acrylics and always end up disappointed, until now. The products they use here are amazing, and so is my favorite nail tech, Tiffany. I've been going here for 5 months and NEVER had a break or chip. I average 3 weeks on my set, only due to growth I have to make an apt. This has never happened in the 25 years of having nails. My journey to get to the right nail tech wasn't easy but I'm glad I've safely arrived at the table of Thong. Having read the previous reviews I had cautious optimism because this young man had come so highly recommended and my previous experiences had been poor. Thus far I've been greeted appropriately upon entering and noticed every other person coming in the door was greeted in a similar manner. I was seated in a timely fashion compared with my appointment. During my appointment times not one of the techs had a cell phone in hand. Indeed only their customers hands. From the repairs to broken or chipped nails, to timing, to color selection and application, through to the hot towel at the end, the treatment at this salon is top notch. Thong believes he's creating a welcoming, friendly atmosphere where customers will feel appreciated rather than simple contributors to the cash registers. I love Modern Nails! I've been a lifelong nail biter so I decided getting a full set would help me stop. Thong does a fantastic job and always gets my nails right. I ask for short/ realistic looking nails and he takes the time to give me exactly that! I really appreciate his attention to detail. I always leave loving my nails and get lots of compliments! Any time I bring a friend with me, the staff brings a chair over so we can still talk while I'm getting my nails done or moves stuff around so we can get our nails done side by side (when possible). The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because there is always a wait. They are super busy any time you go but I disagree with other reviews about the staff ignoring you- I have always been greeted the second I walk in the door and someone comes right over to the counter when I check in. I started going here about 1.5 years ago and left when my favorite tech left. She has since returned and I am back to going again. I have always been treated with the utmost respect here. The place is always clean and Jack is an amazing door greeter. Their prices are fair and their quality is top notch. I have waited past appointment times before and also been seen right at my time. This is like anyplace you make an appointment sometimes things go wrong or take longer throughout the day and this snowballs into the rest of the day. My sister and I wanted to get our nails done before she went to school earlier this summer and our normal salon was full so we thought we'd try Modern Nails, as we had heard good reviews. We were so wrong! First, we made an appointment but still waited 35 minutes to be seen all while they were taking walk-ins. Second, the woman who did my nails barely knew how to hold a nail file and took almost double the time a normal mani/pedi would take because she was so slow. Lastly, the quality of our manicures and pedicures were very poor! They chipped and peeled way sooner then they do when we get our nails done elsewhere. Overall just a really poor experience. I was a walk in and I didn't have to wait at all, but I didn't go at a normal "busy time" on purpose.The people are very polite and they speak English all the time instead of the other nail places I have been to in Falmouth and other places that speak foreign languages all the time and make jokes about their clients because they know we don't understand their language. This is rude to the clients and they need to be more concerned about who is paying their wages! My friend and I got shellac manicures on 5/22/2018. My friend picked the nail salon out after seeing some recent positive reviews on their FB page. I got a solid color and she got a French manicure. Both our technicians were going to town on our fingers with the nail files. She had a woman tech with braces and I had a male. My friend's technician filed her nails so hard that she actually bled on two fingers! The tools to push your cuticles back and snip around your nail bed were sitting in a cup of sanitizer. I really feel like the best nail salons use new, sealed packages of these tools on each client. That way, IF they for some reason cut you, like they did my friend, at least you know the tools are totally sterile and have a lesser risk of infection! Our manicures looked fine upon leaving, but less than 24 hours later my friend's French is already chipping. Shellac should last weeks so this is unacceptable! A few of my fingers hurt, too, because of all the aggressive filing. We will not be going back! read more

Definitely won't be coming back here. My nails don't look good at all. At the salon I usually go to, it takes between 1.5 and 2 hours to do a full set of acrylics with gel, and they only charge $30. At Modern Nails, the guy took LESS than 45 minutes to do a full set with gel, rushing the entire time, and they charged me over $40. Not to mention- All my nails are unevenly shaped & different lengths. The polish is see thru and unevenly painted. My cuticles were completely ignored. And the tech was very rude- rushing, skipping steps, being very rough with me, and only talked to me when he wanted to know what shape I wanted my nails to be. I wouldn't suggest going here if you're looking to get a full set of acrylics, definitely not worth the amount of money they charge you. DK Nails down the road is way better quality, techs are nicer, and they charge way less! read more

I really wanted to like this salon but the customer service is just awful. I went in a few years ago and had a negative experience- I made a reservation but was kept waiting an hour anyway. I decided to give it another shot because my mom and I were looking for a new nail place to try. We made a reservation for 9am. We got there at 8:55 and the lights were off and no employees were even there. At 9, we went to the door, which was locked and still nobody there. We waited outside in the cold for 10 minutes until an employee came and let us in. She had no regard for the fact that she kept us waiting, was making phone calls on speaker with the owner, and barely acknowledged us. She was not apologetic in the slightest about keeping us waiting. Further more, they made reservations with 3 people for 9am and only one employee was there at 9:15. We decided to take our business elsewhere. As we were leaving, the owner walked in, who also did not seem to care about the loss of business.
