Complete Nightmare!! When the four movers arrived, they all took turns using the restroom and asking for water. After five hours and not much progress, we called and complained to the manager. No response. Ultimately, two of the movers were in an altercation causing one of the movers to be taken by ambulance. Modern Moving & Storage a/k/a MTR Ventures, LLC d/b/a "Modern Moving" proceeded to submit a fraudulent Contract for Moving Services for close to $6000 for a local move. They claim we signed the contract the morning of our move and supposedly they already predicted they would use 7 rolls of bubble wrap, 6 rolls of tape and take 16+ hours to move??? Our home is under 2500 sq. ft.. In reality, they complimented us on our packing and organization and expected the move to take 6-7 hours. After the altercation between the movers, the manager appeared close to midnight demanding payment. We disputed the charge directly and requested to discuss the final bill after evaluating our damages. They fraudulently charged our credit card anyway. We were not aware that they were keeping our credit card information on file. This was all without our permission, knowledge or consent. We attempted to contact them regarding these issues and they refused to respond to our calls, texts and emails and instead had an attorney contact us claiming we are not allowed to post Google reviews. We also noticed that all their positive Google reviews were made by employees and family of employees. After researching them on BBB, we found we weren't the only victims. Modern Moving Company made grand promises but delivered catastrophically poor service. They fundamentally failed to honor the terms of our contract while still charging premium rates. I specifically paid for white glove moving service, expecting professional, careful handling of my belongings. What I received was the complete opposite. The company arrived hours late with only half the crew they promised, leaving me and my wife to do much of the heavy lifting myself despite paying for full-service moving. Their lack of professionalism extended beyond poor service. Items went missing and damaged during the move--property that was in their custody that they actually managed to pack during this fiasco was just throw into box despite being fragile. When confronted, they showed no accountability or concern. Despite these multiple contract violations and the substandard service, they had no hesitation charging the full premium price. We paid top dollar for white glove service and ended up doing manual labor while our belongings were mishandled, broken and damaged . Bottom line: Modern Moving Company promises premium service but delivers amateur results at premium prices. On top of it if you use your card to pay or even reserve they will illegally store your card without permission and charge as much as they want. If you're considering hiring movers, look elsewhere. Modern Movers is without a doubt the best moving company I've ever employed; they took great care to wrap all of my belongings in a professional and thorough manner. When everything was unpacked, we realized that nothing was broken, including our crystal glassware. I say these words after spending a 21 year career in the USAF, where we moved frequently. Additionally, we've moved three times in Florida too. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Hiring a mover in Florida is a crapshoot. I'm so glad they were the ones I chose. You hear horror stories of duplicitous movers but everything Modern Movers did was transparent and above board. Be warned!! We recently used Modern Moving and Storage for our move in the Cocoa, FL area. Let me first start by saying that the four young men who moved were very courteous and professional. When I spoke with Matt, the manager, from Modern Moving we had made an agreement for 3 movers at $169 per hour. I mentioned that all my others moves only took about 4 to 5 hours for my 2 bedroom condo and he agreed that this should be about the same. On the day of the move 4 people showed up instead of three. The cost changed to $199 per hour without my knowledge. I told the movers that I only needed my primary bed taken apart and put back together. I waited as they started to load. It took a total of 5 hours just to load. The drive from my old place to my new place is 15 minutes. It took them approximately 45 minutes to get there. I asked how long it would take to unload and I was told around 4 hours. This would have made 9 hours to move 15 minutes away. I told them they had 2 more hours and I ran out of money. They were finished within those 2 hours. I believe the employees intended no foul play but I believe they were trained to take as long as they could to extend the cost. I argued the agreement and got the 4th person taking off the cost. What I found was they not only took my bed apart but everything that could come apart, they took apart and the reasoning was it packed better. Again, 15 minutes away. DO NOT USE this company!!! They add costs that you are not told about. Yes you even pay for the excessive amount of tape they use to wrap everything. The ending cost was around $600 more dollars than I expected. I'd give six stars if I could. MM moved heavy pieces, china cabinet, etc. with ease for us. We went with the 3 man team they recommended which worked out well. The team was professional and friendly and worked very hard on a 93 degree day. MM provided a written quote with costs, something lacking in others we contacted. We used Modern Movers after being referred to them by a friend. They came to pre-pack the day before and Arnoldo and Clay did a phenomenal job! They packed China and many breakables and fragile items. Not one thing arrived broken. That made a huge difference aa we have 3 kids and we had packed most of the house and were exhausted. We did have one chair that got slightly damaged but they are repairing it. We also had a great packing crew! Our move from Florida to Georgia couldn't have been any worse really. We paid extra for a "dedicated move", meaning it would only be our stuff on a truck, and they would deliver it on a certain day instead of a window of 3 days. Well, our stuff didn't arrive when they said it would. What's worse, and totally indefensible is that the movers started bringing the wrong stuff into our home when they arrived. In other words they put our stuff and someone else's stuff on the truck. The movers in Florida couldn't have been more unprofessional. One of them yelled and I believe cursed at me in my own home. The movers in Georgia who unpacked our stuff worked their butts off and really couldn't have been nicer. Even if Modern Movers offered to move my stuff for free, I would hire someone else. read more

HORRIBLE!!!!!! DO NOT USE!! Used them for an interstate move at the end of September and paid for full coverage. Packers were ok, with the exception of one guy who tore floral arrangements apart and stuck in boxes. They were destroyed. Delivery was a nightmare! Physically tore a table apart - never new that could happen, broke a chair, broken pictures and accessories, tore up wooden steps dragging things down them. Worst was they dropped my husbands Harley off the ramp of the semi!!! Claims person said she doesn't believe it fell, even though her driver called the company and reported all of the above as all of the damages were occurring. She is disputing the claim and refuses to send an insurance adjuster to look at the bike!!!! She says there were some scratches, etc. that were preexisting, which is true and we aren't asking for those to be fixed. She has people she works with, who have motorcycles, looking at the estimate and saying its too high, yet they are not adjusters nor have they even seen the bike!!! The worst is they won't fix or replace any of the furniture until the entire claim is filed.......it's been over a month! This is our third move and have never had so a HORRIFIC experience!! read more

On August 1st, my husband and I used Modern Movers to move our belongings from Fort Myers, Florida to Brevard, North Carolina. The beginning of the move progressed well. On the first day of packing, the one piece that was improperly prepared for transport, was our grandfather clock. The office asked us in advance, if we had a grandfather clock, or other items that needed special attention, at which time we told them we did, in fact, have a grandfather clock. The movers assigned to our job clearly did not know how to secure the clock, and did not disassemble it properly. Eventually they managed to disengage the weights, but the chains were not adequately secured, and fell out during the move. Finally, the day the furniture was due to arrive, which was August 1st at 8:00 am, we saw a community security truck outside our new house with the moving company's truck driver, evaluating the route. At around 10:00 am the driver returned to our home advising us that the truck was stuck on a hill. At this time we were informed that our furniture would have be off loaded and then reloaded onto one or two smaller trucks. Although Modern Movers conducted an evaluation of our area ahead of time to prevent problems of this nature, they obviously made a serious error. This miscalculation on Modern Movers' part caused our move to take place over the course of two days instead of one. We tried to contact the office numerous times throughout the first day of the move, but failed to get someone to tell us what was going on. Finally, the truck arrived at 4:00 in the afternoon, 8 hours late, while we waited in an empty house. We were hesitant to leave, even though the office personnel suggested going out for a lunch break. We were worried, however, that we would miss the arrival of our shipment. The next day the remainder of our shipment arrived in the morning, about 10:00 am. The movers were finished around 1:00 pm, rushing to finish the job, assuring us that the company would pay to have the clock reassembled, after realizing they could not do it themselves. A few days after the move, we called the office numerous times throughout the following two weeks, getting the same answer each time, that they were checking on whether they would fix the clock. Steve Bradley had a cavalier attitude when explaining (on August 14th - two weeks after the move) that we would have to fill out a claim form. He went on to explain that we would only receive .60 cents per pound which of course, would not even pay to have a professional repairman come to our home. On the day of the move, the mover in fact, filled out a form stating that we needed the clock to be repaired. All in all, this has been a very disappointing and disconcerting experience, especially considering the condescending attitude in dealing with Mr. Bradley. In addition, the offloading and reloading cost us an extra $925 over the original cost. We managed to get down to that cost even though the office personnel originally asked for $1500. At that time our goods were still in the company's possession when asking us for extra money. We felt that they used intimidation tactics to get us to pay the extra fee. Do not use this company, especially if you have any item that has sentimental value. By the way, our daughter made the same move 6 months earlier with Allied Van Lines and also had to offload and reload with no additional cost. I was called and emailed no less than 10 ten times before I was finally able to give them an exact move date. On the day of the move, 3 guys show up 1 hour late. They then proceed to go back and forth with the office over the estimate/items to be moved. They sat out in the street smoking cigarettes before the lead guy comes in and tells me that he is not going to be able to do the move and that the office screwed him over and he's tired of it. I call the main office and they say they are sending yet another truck even though there was one in my driveway with three guys doing NOTHING. At this point I had lost all confidence in this company. **Over 25k worth of damaged furniture...AVOID*** Our furniture was supposed to be in 'climate controlled' storage (as advertised) but they loaded it onto their leaky truck/trailer on Friday, August 13thleft it outside in over 90 degree summer heat, humidity, and rain all weekend. On Monday, 8/16, our items arrived water damaged and wrapped in wet blankets. Over 25k worth of damage to our fine furniture including my parents teak furniture that they have had for over 40 years. Mattress was completely ruined and a side table, desk, and dining room table were broken/cracked. We gave them every opportunity to make this right, however they only gave us $822 which doesn't even cover the cost of the mattress and stated that's all our contract owed us. My argument is that they did not hold up their end of the contract since they decided to load our furniture onto the truck 3 days early as a convenience to them. We have filed a formal complaint with the BBB but would advise you to avoid them at all costs. read more

Arrived on time. Everything had been packed. They only had to move the big furniture pieces. Two mattresses, two box springs, two refrigerator and one sectional. It took them 1 hour and 15 minutes. The "office" charged me $440.00 because they said there was a 4-hour minimum. I asked them to review their recordings because although I called them several times, they did not advise me of the 4-hour minimum. They estimated my moving at five hours and when I told them it was no more than two hours, they told me that it was an estimate. I am disputing the charge and now they are telling me that NOT ALL CALLS are recorded. They are a bunch of thieves and part of the Atlas Moving Company. If I could give them 0 stars I would. Don't believe the "family/friends" hype. I packed my whole house to ease their moving job and bought the insurance on top of it to cover any issues. They lost 4 of my boxes, 1 with important documents, and then told me that the insurance i purchased didn't cover it because i had packed the boxes myself. Hmmmmm, might have been nice to know that UP FRONT. There is no such thing as service in the USA anymore. I will say that they were cheaper than ALL the other moving companies but in the end, you get what you pay for. Do yourself a favor and pass them by. read more

I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH _ AVOID THESE PEOPLE AT ALL COSTS. They gave me an estimate of $1,400 for 3 guys for 10 hours. They were here 7 1/2 hours out of which I caught them loafing for one full hour and another hour they spent at lunch so they only worked for 5 1/2 but still charged me for the full 10 hours. On top of that they broke approximately $200.00 worth of my belongings and stole 6 cans of soft drink out of my refrigerator! They also left all of my kitchen goods over at the old house and I had to make 6 trips by car to get everything, working until 1:30 a.m.! NEVER AGAIN! LOOK ELSEWHERE! So much for trying to be a loyal customer, which is rare in today's economy, and moving 3 times in 13 months with MODERN MOVERS. What a joke! One would think that after a professional company moves your goods several times they would give an accurate estimate and show up with the correct size truck. NOT MODERM MOVERS. I spoke the sales department to get the initial quote on the move and thought "No problem" as I dealt with her on the previous moves. I was so wrong. The quote I was given was the same as when we previously moved. HOWEVER, it was a partial pack (only kitchen) vs. a full pack (3 bedroom 2 bath 1800 sq. ft). How does that make sense? But I was told this is their job and they do it all day everyday and they know how to estimate. OK. We were quoted for 8 hours of labor since they were only packing 1 room. I asked are you sure last time you took 12 hours and that was with 1 guy in kitchen entire time packing. Yes, I am sure. OK. Account for 4.5/5 hours at origin and 3.5/3 at destination. OK. Also we have a lot of kitchen stuff so please account for that in regards to special boxes, etc. OK. I also pointed out that the truck they sent last time was barely big enough. OK. Day of move the crew arrives 2 HOURS LATE due to a mechanical issue. Fine things happen. But once they arrived it took them 45 minutes just to look around move in supplies. NO hussle at all. When I said they had to be out in 4 1/2 hours they just shrugged and said "We will try but doubt it". OK 15 minutes into the actual packing of the kitchen, the team leader comes to find me to sign an adjustment form because they need more dish packs than what was estimated. 15 MINUTES INTO PACKING AND YOUR OUT OF BOXES after I forewarned the salesperson during the quote process??? Dish packs are $40 a box so no small fee. (When I call right then to speak with Jamie she was on vacation so no one could help me). REALLY? 5 hours into move they are finishing up in the garage and I notice one of the crew loading up a 47" TV on to truck without being wrapped in rugs or even put into a mirror box. WHAT????? At this point they are just squeezing whatever they can into what little space is left in the truck. At one point the team leader sees our concerned faces and says "Don't worry I have a tailgate that comes out if I need it." ARE YOU SERIOUS? I am paying thousands of dollars for my home to ride out off the end of your truck! Did I not have this conversation with sales but was told again...We do this all the time, this is our job...blah blah blah! Day of delivery they arrive nice and early. GREAT! 2 guys show up. NOT SO GREAT! 2 GUYS for 11,000 pounds of goods. 2 GUYS with 11,000 POUNDS OF GOODS AND 2 1/2 HOURS TO UNLOAD AND PUT FURNITURE TOGETHER. What a joke! I called MODERN MOVERS RIGHT AWAY and was told someone called in sick and there is nothing they can do. Really? You have no other guys on call for when this happens? At this point I am so mad and over it. When I tell the team leader they have 2 1/2 hours to do this, he looks at me like I am crazy and says they will be lucky to get done in 4. REALLY? More $$$ of course! So we just take matters into our own hands and my husband stays home from work (More $$$$ out of our pocket) and basically becomes the 3rd guy that didn't show up, moving boxes and furniture off truck. In another effort to save time, my husband then puts all the furniture together (even though we are paying MODERN MOVERS TO DO THAT) so they can get out closer to contracted time. WHAT A JOKE! To top it all off...we have damaged furniture. The reason one chooses and hires a moving company is for peace of mind. Peace of mind in knowing that a professional company is moving and taking care of your stuff better than you can. The last thing you would expect is to have to file a claim because priceless goods are damaged. NOT MODERN MOVERS! When a customer service agent called to follow up I told her about how we would never use again and what a horrible experience. You would think that the office manager would call to talk to you to put you at ease. NOT MODERN MOVERS. When I called Sherri, the office manager, and left a message for her still didn't get a call. REALLY? In a customer service based industry this is how you treat a returning customer. We even had referred some friends but after our experience we told them don't even think about it. They ended up trying to charge me for 15 hours and it took 2 full days to move. They sent workers who have never moved anyone before. They were slow, sloppy and totally unqualified. Modern Movers moved our furniture into our new home here in Fort Myers Florida on 7/31/18. In doing so the flooring in the den was damaged by one of the movers dragging the piece across the floor instead of getting help and lifting the piece when moving across the room. As the job ended we showed the damage to the lead crew person. It was documented and pictures taken of the damaged floor. Modern Movers was paid for the moving expenses from our account. We received no phone calls from Modern Movers to inquire of what was needed to replace damage on floor. All phone calls have been from us reaching out to get floor replaced. We did get someone from their office that came out looked at the floor and tried to blend his makers and spit from his mouth to rub in the Scratches to hide the damage in the floor. When I told him that wasn't working. He presided out the front door closing it in my face. I called and spoke to Kelly this morning and they still need to think about what needs to be done. It's been 9 months of phone calls and us doing all the calling. I don't recommend this company and the staff is not professional in dealing with situations that are caused by their employees negligence. I have moved 9 times in the military and now that I'm retired, I had to find a moving company. These guys were the most professional, polite and fast crew that I've ever seen. We packed our house up and they did all the moving. They wrapped every thing like it was there own. There was no last minute price changes like I've read about other companies. My neighbor's recently used Modern Movers and I wouldn't recommend them unless they get rid of some employees. The experience they had with office staff was horrible. One person doesn't seem to know what the other is doing. My neighbor said the one lady was so rude to her. The crew that showed up only a couple worked. The one guy was always on his phone and wouldn't help the others out with anything. We overheard the other guys talking and they was complaining about the one on the phone. They said that no one wants to work with him or even be around him. What is that saying about the company? My friend asked what this guy was doing and they said nothing. If I was you I would find a company where the people in the office are not so rude and actually hire people who want to work and not be on the phone. read more

Find another mover who has a good history of customer service. The General Manager clearly does not know what good customer service entails.This is what happened. Modern Movers damaged the roof of my mother's car and they will not pay for the repair. The General Manager keeps deferrng to his insurance company who did pay a small portion of the repair cost but, Modern Movers refuses to pay the balance of the costs. The crew that loaded the house contents was professional and courteous. However, after they left with our contents, they incorrectly installed a floor above my mother's car. During the cross country trip, the support beams pounded the top of the car causing over $6,000 in damage. Modern Movers admitted they caused the damaged but refuse to pay. The guys were worn out and ran out of steam-the bed was not put together completely. Office said they would send someone to fix the bed, but they never did. It took longer to unload than to load which I have never seen before-one guy short. One star is more than this company deserves. I have used them NUMEROUS times throughout the years and hadn't had an issue. They were overpriced compared to competitors but you get what you pay for and they had always provided the best service. This last move will be my final with them. First, their invoice at the end was $700 over the quote they provided. Secondly, they broke a 6 month old $500+ flat screen TV. After numerous pictures and emails and hassle, they issued a $13.22 check to cover a $500 TV that THEY packed AND broke. Additionally, they slammed down a massage chair, breaking off a piece, and refused to even cover that claiming that since I found the broken piece past 10 days after the move, it's ineligible to be claimed. Spent several Thousand Dollars to move household furniture from Fort Myers to Michigan. First, they arrive one day early. I was in the middle of painting the room where the furniture was to be placed. Second, they were to have called 24 hrs. before delivery, they did not. Third, I received two of three paintings damaged, they were a set of three. These were not cheap paintings or frames, estimated value, $7,000. Now to the bottom line, after filling a damage report with written estimates for the frame replacements, Modern Movers sent me a check for $108. They stated that I elected the cheapest 'valuation level', .60 cents on the LB, this is not true at all. I would not use anyone else! Best ever..So amazing from start to finish. The office staff was so helpful and went out of there way to accommodate my move. The movers worked very hard from early in the day. They were very polite and were very experienced. The thought of making a move was so stressful to me but this company made it a breeze! I had a very bad experience with Modern Movers. Initially they moved our stuff into storage and that part was excellent - I was very impressed. Some years later, after always paying my storage fees, I decided to relocate back to the UK and that was when things went bad. They took ages to answer emails, were very late in obtaining quotations and dragged their feet even more when I wanted to get a date for shipping out. I had to threaten legal action at one point to get a response to a routine email. In the end it took me over four months from asking for a quote to getting my stuff shipped. I keep seeing how they have made changes and things are better now but no!!!! We had damaged furniture they refused to fix because their guys swear they did do it. Well duh? Why wouldn't they deny it. We filed a claim as asked and 4 weeks later we are still calling without any return calls because the guy that deals with this is in the middle of something at the time of our call. Fat chance they have made changes for the better....more like they have made changes that make them better at avoiding paying claims for damage done by their movers! Don't use this company!!!
