I responded to a CL ad from a talent agency looking to take on new faces. They conveniently omitted…read moretheir agency name both on the ad and the emails we communicated in. I knew these were red flags on top of the Yelp review on here, but I went into the first meeting prepared for a potential scam. First of all, I think this agency frequently and repeatedly post ads (all worded differently, but the tone and style are very similar; also all within the Pearl District) under the Gig section of Craigslist because I responded to a few (that were posted within days of each other), and got two responses: one from David and another from Maggie. I did not know they were with the same agency, and they separately asked me to call them to schedule an "interview" (actual terminology used). Maggie (David's assistant) was very kind and helpful, but David was not. He kept barking over me, so I told him I wasn't interested and hung up. I was able to look up the agency name when Maggie sent me their address. I found that the agency was Turtledove Clemens and/or Andromedia Blend Prime. Despite the red flags, I decided to meet based on the fact that they've been around since 1942 and are listed on the BBB as a legitimate business. I printed my resumes and arrived early to their suite at 10:26am. The door on the outside of the building listed Turtledove Clemens, but the form they tried to get me to sign lists Andromedia Blend Prime. Maggie introduces herself on her way out, and I am invited to sit with a man named: David. He asks me absolutely nothing about myself and promptly hands over an Application for Representation, telling me to fill it out and sign it. I say, I thought this was a meet and greet to see if I would even WANT to be represented by an agency (and vice versa). They know nothing about me! I hadn't even sent them my photo or resume prior to this point. I am trying to read this one-page form so they "can just find a little bit more about me", but he's not letting me read -- he's just telling me to fill it out. One of the confusing/ concerning/ laughable parts I notice on the bottom of this application states that "Your photo shoot is scheduled for Saturday morning at 8:30 AM" and that you have to pay $80 cash to the photographer. Paying for a shoot may be reasonable, but I just walked in the door! It's also hard to believe a shoot was scheduled for "Saturday" when all of the mass-printed applications stated this (on the clipboard he handed me), and they didn't even list a date. He aggressively barked "What are you doing here?!" when I told him I wasn't comfortable signing anything right off the bat, with literally no prior discussion or details exchanged. So since I pretty much knew before arrival that this probably wouldn't pan out, I decided in that moment to GTF outta dodge at this point. I responded, "I was looking for a vibe, and I believe I got that, so I'm going to go now" and left. I checked the time when I walked outside, and it was 10:30am. Fastest "interview" I've ever had! Please don't waste your time here. Even if they weren't scammers, I would never want to work with people like this. The industry has evolved and is evolving - we don't have to deal with this BS to get where we want to go.

I'd never had a professional photo session, and the GMS folks made it a fun experience. We were really happy with the pics (just added one to my yelp profile!), and it was super-convenient to get to hang out and meet in their space. We're continuing to work with GMS to create some more educational materials, and I recently had a brainstorming session with Geff about this next project. He immediately grasped what I had in mind and shared some on-point ideas of his own. I'm so excited to work with him on this next project and create something amazing together. Highly recommend GMS without any hesitations!
