You know the phase--"oh my... what have we done?" She behaved as though collars, harnesses, or mild inconvenience might actually be the end of her. Somehow--and I mean somehow--the team at Royal Pup Parlor groomed her beautifully and transformed her behavior. I'm convinced a magic wand was involved. She came home calm, happy, and shockingly cooperative. Fast forward to now: she happily sits on my lap while I brush her, gets those dreamy sleepy eyes, and often falls asleep mid-groom. That kind of trust doesn't happen by accident. It happens when animals are handled with patience, gentleness, and real love. Grooming here is clearly an act of care, not just a service. We're so grateful to have gotten her on their schedule--and so are our other pets. We now bring our husky here for deshedding baths and our lab for nail trims. Every visit confirms what we already know: these folks are the real deal. Highly, wholeheartedly recommended.

Our white Great Dane and our mulberry tree in the backyard don't mix very well. She likes to sit and lay down back there, giving her purple spots. I took my two dogs to Woodward Ave Dog Grooming in Royal Oak for the first time today, and…read moreunfortunately, it will also be the last. I was initially told the grooming would take about three hours, but it ended up taking 5 hours--far longer than any other groomer I've used. Typically, my dogs are finished in 2 to 2.5 hours, so this was excessive. The pricing was also disappointing. The base price is $75 per dog, but nearly everything else is an add-on--$5 for teeth brushing, $5 for ear cleaning, $5 for nail grinding. If you want the "works," it's $95 per dog, and given how long they already took, I can only imagine how much longer that would have added. When I expressed my frustration about the long wait, the owner explained that her daughter, who is newer to grooming, was taking her time. While I understand the need for practice, I don't think that should come at the expense of the customer's time, especially without any communication. I had to call after three hours to check in, as no one had reached out to let me know it would take longer. To top it off, I was told my dogs were "difficult"--not aggressive, just difficult. In 13 years of grooming, no one has ever said this. Perhaps an experienced groomer would have been able to handle them more efficiently. Overall, this was a disappointing experience--too long, too expensive, and not handled professionally. If you value your time and want a straightforward grooming experience, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

I simply asked for clarification on my bill after being charged nearly $200 for what was supposed to be a bath and small trim. Instead of explaining the charges, the owner immediately became hostile and defensive. If you look through the reviews, you'll notice a pattern of similar complaints -- yet many of the one-star reviews seem to mysteriously disappear. Completely unacceptable behavior from a business owner. I will never return.
