I can't recommend them highly enough. Eva, the owner, is VERY ethical and really goes out of her way to help you out as a client. The same goes for Debra. These people work very hard. They have very good prices for amazing fabric!!! I'm so happy to be supporting this business. I wish I could work with them. Plus, as a bonus, it is a woman owned business. read more

Excellent assortment of fabrics. Even real leather ! Very friendly and helpful staff. Wish the prices were lower.

They have such a wonderful variety of different kinds of fabrics and they make great recommendations for a upholstery fabric, pillows, draperies, etc. read more

Amazing fabrics, great service love the way the store is decorated and organized color coordinated textiles and great displays.

We weren't the typical customer, but Modern Fabrics saved our Halloween by giving my 6-year-old the coolest piece of green fabric when he lost his cape and refused to accept payment! Such a thoughtful heartfelt gesture. We got a real-life hero in addition to our costumed crusaders. The fabric selection was amazing, and organized by texture and type. What a wonderful store! I can't wait to upholster something. read more

Great find! Very helpful and so many choices to pick from. I would highly recommend this place.

Great place for small projects. High quality fabric, lots of options and at a great price.

I love Modern Fabrics. I've ordered textiles from them over the past five years and love their story, the quality of their selection, the pricing and their service. I ordered Designtex pattern Lambert in color Latte for our Ligne Roset sofa and Milo Baughman Chairs (consignment store finds). South Upholstery in Lynnwood, WA did a great upholstery job and we couldn't be happier with the results. read more

Purchased fabric to re-upholster a 60s sofa and so happy I found the site! My upholsterer told me to look for fabric with a backing or a knit backing and Modern Fabrics very clearly states type of backing on fabric if available. To the trade fabrics at wholesale prices - what's not to love? Sofa fabric arrived neatly rolled in a plastic covering. Upholsterer told me it was "excellent" quality. Ewa is very patient and sent multiple packages of samples. After success with my sofa fabric I continued to shop for some chairs. The fabrics have not arrived yet but I know I will be pleased. These are high quality, designer fabrics I could not afford at retail prices. read more

After several weeks on the hunt for fabric to recover an antique dining room set for my sister's new home, I found this shop in an online search for fabric stores. They are only open Wednesday through Saturday but are easy to find, though parking in the gravel lot just beyond the store might prove problematic in inclement weather. My sister found a swatch via their website and went to see it Wednesday, but it was not at the store but at the warehouse and would have to be brought over the next day. Lesson learned for future trips to ask first before making the drive. The owner called to say the fabric was in and we were able to go over the same day. The staff was super helpful and very friendly and I will definitely go back and recommend it! We spent a little under $200 (for enough fabric for six chairs and four pillows) and the fabric quality is awesome! They do take credit/debit but offer a small discount for cash or check. read more

A great place to find unique fabrics for reupholstering furniture. Helpful staff to help find appropriate pattern and quality. Get ready to hunt, or be ready to take the awesome employees and owners up on their offer to help - because you're going to need it. Not because it isn't organized, but there is just so much fabric! I went it looking for some fabric to recover some furniture and was mildly overwhelmed but declined the help of an employee at first. I started my search along the outskirts (all the racks are marked with the amount of fabric they have on hand of it) since I needed 5 yards. There is organization to the color, a bit to the fabrics, but after about 20 minutes of finding things I loved that were just under what I needed I finally took a woman up on her offer to help. After I told her what I was looking for she pulled a few things and then went on a hunt for more. She found a piece that they had one yard on the floor and happened to find 16 more yards of it elsewhere, so I probably never would have found it without her. We then pulled pillow fabrics, fabrics for accent pieces, and gave me some nice swatches to bring home and decide on. Even though the woman I worked with originally wasn't there on return trip, I still got some great help from the owners. I will be returning to them for all of my fabric needs in the future! read more

Debra was so friendly and helpful. I needed upholstery fabric and was clueless. She answered all my questions. She is knowledgeable and ready to assist. They have a broad array of fabrics there (vinyl and leather too). If you are looking for a seamster/seamstress to do a particular job, they can share a list of their recommendations. They have visual aids that offer pictures of various types of furniture and provide approximate yardage needed. I am going back to pick out fabric for the pillows. If in the market for fabric, narrow it down via their website and then go into the store. The website has decent filters to help you find what you need. read more

I was just looking into this shop for a friend of mine and I would definitely recommend it. There are tons of fabrics to choose from and the people don't come across snooty like other fabric store staff in the area. They give a discount for cash, which can be a great thing. read more

I feel so lucky to have found Modern Fabrics! I live in New York City and the prices and selection at this wonderful eco conscious fabric store can't be beat! Ewa is always super helpful and nice to work with! I recently purchased Maharam fabric for a mid century sofa and it came out incredible! The sofa is my third reupholstery project done using Modern Fabrics! First was a chair using George Nelson Pavement then I purchased some maharam vinyl for dining room chairs and finally the sofa. The affordable prices and great selection of fabrics has allowed me to renew old furniture and give it new life! I enjoy the emails with new arrivals and great coupons! Ewa has been so kind in sending many samples as requested. I'm looking forward to visiting the physical shop in Charlotte one day soon! Working with the online store has been seamless and very easy. read more

I have been shopping at Modern Fabrics for a few years. I've purchased material for upholstery and home decor as well as leather for art projects. The staff is always friendly, professional, and ready to help shoppers. They have so many great material options and tons of Mid Century prints that you will not find anywhere else. I frequently hear other shoppers say things like "oh my gosh, there's more back here" as the store winds around from room to room where materials are organized by type. This small business is a gem and we are lucky to have Modern Fabrics in Charlotte. read more

My brother who is an interior designer told me about Modern Fabrics. Holy cow! Beautiful fabrics! I ordered some fabric via online. Ewa was so nice and helpful in her emails. The fabric is to die for and was such a deal! Shipping cost is very reasonable. I bought a Designtex turquoise wool to reupholster a Danish modern chair. The swatch online was pretty much spot on. The guy that redid my chair commented on how nice the fabric was and wanted to know where I got it. Will be ordering more fabric (hopefully soon) for another chair. read more

One of our favorite resources for modern and vintage fabrics in the Charlotte region! Delightful and exceedingly knowledgeable service available from the team there. We currently have some amazing fabric up in our outdoor alleyway and could not be happier with it! read more

Great selection of beautiful fabric of all styles. You need to be willing to dig because the space is small for the amount of product you have. I was there for probably about 30 minutes and no one offered to help me which was kind of annoying. If you're in the mood to shop around it's great, if you're on a mission, is difficult. read more

I had requested swatches for fabrics several times online. I never received them. I wrote them an email asking the status, no reply. They don't have a phone where you can speak to someone, only voicemail. Not good customer service. The fabics look great, but how do I know? read more

Great store! Had way more selection, better organized, and less expensive than the chain retail store that was my other option. The lady who was in this afternoon was super nice and helpful. Also even though she was the only one there she got through 3 other customers quickly to help me. read more

Very happy with the fabric I ordered and the customer service. I ordered 7 yards (4+3) of Knoll fabric for my dining chairs. Because shipping was so inexpensive, I expected it to come folded and boxed. Instead it was on a full-size roll, wrapped very well in plastic, which was great because I really needed a long cardboard tube for storing a tablecloth anyway. The fabric was in great shape -- very clean, no creases, and no marks except for the yardage marked in one corner (probably erasable but I didn't try). There was one tiny, barely visible thread pull that was easily hidden. Because the price was so reasonable, I was able to buy a couple extra yards (just in case I need to replace a stained cover). The only thing I'm confused about is that the selvages didn't have any information printed on them about the fabric, but maybe upholstery fabric doesn't usually have that. I would definitely order from them again. read more
