I've had the services of Modern Appliance twice in the past. The first time was several years ago when my freezer was having issues and more recently just last weekend when my gas oven wasn't fully heating up.
Both times my wife was able to explain my problems in detail over the phone and both times after coming out to our home Peter was able to help us both times. Basically all Peter needed was information such as the make and model of our appliances.
The first time it was only me at home when he came to repair our freezer that was beginning to ice up to the point of water beginning to pool because of excessive ice build up. Peter knew exactly what the issue was and how to fix it almost immediately. Our freezer section of our fridge has been perfect since.
Just last weekend I was attempting to heat up some left over slices of pizza in our gas oven because I don't like reheating pizza in the microwave. For some reason the oven was getting warm but not hot and the preheat notification was never coming off so obviously there was an issue with the oven heating up to required temperatures.
I had looked up on Google to see what would cause this type of issue where a gas oven wouldn't heat up fully. What I ended up finding were some Youtube videos with the explanation of our oven's igniter basically has failed.
My wife came home and I explained to her that the oven wasn't functioning normally so she had Modern Appliance's card from the last time Peter fixed our fridge and called that night and left a message. This was a Thursday evening. Peter called my wife back at 7:30 the next morning on Friday asking a few questions and needing to know the make and model of course.
Peter was trying to source an original part at best and if not a compatible part and he agreed that the issue sounded like the igniter. Peter did end up calling back and notifying my wife that he had the part and explained how much everything would cost based on the service call, labor and part. On Saturday morning around 9:30am Peter contacted me via text asking if he could come over around 10:30am. I had explained that we were out and if we could make it 11 instead and he agreed.
Peter showed up shortly after 11:00 on Saturday morning and it only took him a few minutes to replace our faulty igniter. After testing the oven everything was heating up properly and because the old igniter had slowly started to fail it was taking longer and longer for the oven to heat up to the desired temperature. Now with the new igniter installed it was like we had a brand new oven.
Now not only did Peter just simply come over and replace a part but his knowledge of appliances and serviceability is really solid advice. Basically I as a customer wouldn't necessarily want to replace a part like an oven igniter if my oven was at the end of its life.
Because Peter's knowledge of brands, technologies and serviceability for such a wide range of products comes into play he'll honestly tell you whether it's worth repairing your appliance or just more feasible to replace it. In our case, he said our stove is a solid brand and by just replacing the igniter, we'd probably be good for another 6 to 8 years on that. That's the kind of news I want to hear, that my repair is going to be worth it. That or the honesty of somebody telling me, "this brand, don't buy it because it's expensive to repair and/or they fail a lot" etc.
This sort of industry inside knowledge and experience is PRICELESS. The bottom line is if you own appliance, from time to time they're going to have issues. When the warranty is over, you're on your own. This is the time you need somebody like Peter and Modern Appliance with their honesty and solid advice to help you make the most feasible decision because appliances aren't something you don't want to necessarily replace if you don't have to.
Because it was Superbowl weekend my wife had a lot of cooking to do and was very happy to have her oven back in working condition in basically just over a day.
