I was able to get last minute tickets and was in here for about an hour. It wasn't a large museum but had some interesting pieces. I really did enjoy exploring this museum.
Super fun museum ! Not too big where you feel overwhelmed but does feature interesting pieces from several prominent contemporary artists. The curation showcases mostly dynamic and vibrant pieces too which I appreciate. I enjoyed the Kaws, Banksy, and Robbie Williams works the most. The museum is flossed throughout a unique building with tons of character. I highly recommend ! Great for kids too.
This was a glorious experience. Conveniently located in the museum quarter, this small but mighty museum features contemporary and modern art from a variety of artists. I especially enjoyed the immersive art exhibits. The Symphony of Nature by Six N. Five made me tear up a little bit. It was so peaceful that I forgot to breathe a couple of times. I also really enjoyed the sculptures both indoors and outdoors in the garden, especially the interactive ones outside. There were lots of whimsical pieces that invited smiles, along with striking pieces that inspired awe. It was really fun to see famous pieces up close, and I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of the art, along with the many quotes from the artists, all of which contextualized the pieces, making them more accessible. I came early in the day, so it was never too crowded, which was nice. Even though there weren't many other visitors, the space is intimate, so you could easily ask someone to snap a photo for you if you wanted to.
Small museum, but so worth it. You'll probably only spend about an hour or less in here. They are is modern and contemporary. They do have an interactive exhibit that makes for great pics. The garden also has some fun picture opportunities. The garden is free to enter. We didn't have to get tickets ahead of time for this museum. We were able to walk in without a wait.
Amazing museum with some of the world's best known modern artists. Great audio to accompany the exhibition. Surprised us not just with the display in this traditional building, but also with immersive experiences. Definitely recommend a visit when in Amsterdam
Worth a visit. I was visiting Amsterdam for 1 day a few months ago and really wanted to enjoy a museum. One of my fav things to do while traveling. My friend let me pick out a museum that we could just show up same day and didn't require reservations, since I was visiting. Thid was my pick. We walked here so I could enjoy a city stroll. It looks like a cozy stately home from the outside, but has been transformed inside to a multi floor contemporary art haven to explore and enjoy. You could spend a couple of hours here taking your time (depending on how crowed) like we did, or view a specific exhibit for a short period, or walk through pretty quickly in half an hour maybe. Reasonable price admission cost, well worth it for my experience. But I see some reviewers have complained about the price. This museum has a fantastic mix of multi medium, digital, and immersive art. With well known artist like Basquiat, Banksy, Damien Hirst. And less well known artist to me, Hajime Sorayama (check out Sexy Robot) or ICY & SOT. The Robbie Williams exhibit was wonderful. Art helps us see ourselves and each other better. "In art we trust!" Shout out to my Yelp friend Amy Lauren S. for putting the Moco Museum on my radar. I came across her review when I was planning my Amsterdam trip and decided to add it to my itinerary. I'm glad I did, because I really enjoyed my visit! I used the I Amsterdam card to purchase a ticket. I purchased it a week in advance, but I think you could probably purchase a last minute ticket without any problems. Moco (Modern Contemporary) is a fun museum that features unique and interesting street, contemporary, and modern art. The museum also has some cool art installations. In addition to Amsterdam, they have locations in London and Barcelona. The museum isn't very large and you can easily see everything in under an hour. They offer an audio tour, but I didn't use it. The museum features some well known contemporary and street artists like Basquiat, Warhol, and Banksy; but they also showcase art from musicians like Robbie Williams and Eddie Vedder. Robbie's exhibit "Pride and Self-Prejudice" was my absolute favorite and it really resonated with me. I loved how he used his art to take us through his mental health journey. I found myself laughing at some of the pieces even though the pieces themselves were very dark and depressing. I can certainly relate to some of his work and I appreciate his willingness to be vulnerable through art. The rooms with infinity mirrors (Studio Irma) as well as the large sculptures on the patio were cool too. The visuals were stunning and they made for some fun photo ops. There were also some exhibits that were very thought provoking (JR's "The Gun Chronicles"). Moco is in Museumplein near the heavy hitters (Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum) so I imagine it gets overlooked by museum goers. Don't sleep on this place though. If you enjoy contemporary art that is edgy, provocative, and thoughtful, visit Moco.
At the end of a long day, I visited the Modern Contemporary (Moco) Museum with a friend (while our husbands took a break.) It is a perfect place to explore for less than an hour. The Moco Museum is an independent museum that focuses on modern, contemporary, and street art. It has locations in Amsterdam, Barcelona and London. The permanent collection contains works by Banksy, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, KAWS, Jeff Koons, Yayoi Kusama, Andy Warhol, Studio Irma, and other emerging artists. In Amsterdam, the collection is housed in the historic Villa Alsberg on Museumplein. The townhouse was designed in 1904 by Eduard Cuypers. His uncle, Pierre Cuypers, designed Amsterdam Central Station and the Rijksmuseum. It was one of the first privately owned residencies on Museumplein. The outside garden is filled with giant sculptures. Check out the giant red gummy bear and the oversized rocking horse. There were also two very interesting special exhibits. Robbie Williams: Pride and Self-Prejudice Robbie Williams' collection of artworks on mental health illustrates his personal struggles with external pressures, anxiety, rehab and other stressors. It makes you think about the challenges that we face personally and professionally in our world. Studio Irma: Reflecting Forward Studio Irma is an immersive digital experience. Through a series of rooms, connections are created in which you are challenged to think about the future and how you fit in that world. We All Live in Bubbles. Kaleidoscope Room. Diamond Matrix. Connect The Dots. Universe. So much fun to explore. The Moco Museum is on the I Amsterdam Card. We made a reservation, but I think that we could have gone in without one as it was not too busy on a Saturday night. They are open later than the other museums in Museumplein which makes it ideal to visit after exploring the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum.
The Moco Museum is an independent museum with locations in Amsterdam, Barcelona, and London, dedicated to exhibiting modern and contemporary art. Founded with the mission of attracting broader and younger audiences the collection leans heavy on Banksy, Basquiat and Haring with additional space for interactive pieces and digital art. Small considering the 24 Euro ticket price, but they do a lot with the space they have.
When we left our hotel we had a destination and it was not the Moco Museum, yet here we are, writing a review for it! When we got off the streetcar to go to the art museum, we saw this flashy building and decided to check it out.....which lead to us checking out the whole thing. This museum is (I think) 4 stories and a basement full of art from modern day titans such as Banksy, Takashi Murakami, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and even some Keith Haring pieces. We spent a good 30-40 minutes exploring this main floors of this museum before heading down to the gift shop area where we were able to get another Magnet, check out the immerse rooms that was mostly just some lights and whatnot, and finally end the tour with the art outside including a giant rocking horse my overweight butt managed to hop onto for a pretty fun picture. Overall, the Moco Museum is a charming museum showcasing some of the best artists of the last 20 years or so with some of their best work on display. I'm not the biggest art guy, but this place had special charm to it that I think everyone should experience, so come look at some incredible art
We had visited the Van Gogh Museum previously so we stopped in the Moco Museum, which features modern and contemporary artists, in a townhouse off Museumplein. We saw Shoes by Andy Warhol, works by Yayoi Kusama, Banksy (not authorized but authenticated, Basquiat, Haring, more. It was amazing to see these works up close, with several of the artists works in dedicated rooms. There is an audio tour with your ticket. Lots of stairs, and bathrooms on several of the floors. I enjoyed the immersive art, Studio Irma, Diamond Matrix. We were able to complete the museum in about one hour,
We visited the Moco Museum with our I AMsterdam cards. It's super close to the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum, so if you have the card, it's worth visiting while you're there. While it is a small museum, it is very upbeat and was a fun way to end the day. A lot of the exhibits are great for posing for Instagram photos or making reels if you're into that. Personally, I loved reading the quotes and also taking pictures of the Banksy street art. Outside, you can climb on the giant rocking horse (at your own risk) and take a picture. This museum has stairs and is not a good fit if you cannot climb stairs (no elevator). You must also keep your coat/umbrella/belongings with you, as there are no lockers. It's a rather small museum but packs a lot of exhibits, so if you plan for an hour here, that should be enough.
Very cool museum with banksy, Andy Warhol, etc. many famous pieces are in this small museum. There is also immersive art which is a cool experience. You can buy a ticket online for cheaper than at the door. I recommend purchasing before as they do sell out on the weekends and during busy seasons. You get a timed ticket and it is quite snug in the museum. They don't let you in until a few minutes before your timed ticket. There is a free audio guide, though we did not do it.

Honestly not too much of a huge fan... love modern art don't get me wrong but was very crowded (way too many tickets were sold for the time slot) hot and cramped. Some exhibits were cool but overall definitely disappointed in the selection. After all advertisements were full of highlighting Andy Warhol and Keith haring but only had one piece from each. Also big section of NFTS, not one for that but if you are interested in that would recommend then. If you are going for the cocktail just know it will be prepackaged & lukewarm. read more
So disappointing. This is the opposite of a representation of street art. Crammed, crowded, commercial, conformed, confusing and could not wait to exit. Maybe I should have thought about the concept more. Street art in a gallery has such potential of done just right and this more than misses the mark. Yes - Banksy, Warhol, Hirst and Basquiat but at a price to cheapen their work. Both through the lens of a commercial operation and by way of bastardizing placement and poise. Just do not go here unless you have to have a pretentious selfie or want to cram yourself into visual art that was rejected from Coachella. read more

Moco Museum is for those who love modern art. While touring around the Museum Quarter, we decided to check out Moco Museum, as we learned that it had pieces from Banksy, Lichtenstein and Warhol. What I like most about Moco Museum is that compared to the surrounding museums in the neighborhood, Moco is located in an old house, so you really get a feel that you're in someone's house with a collection of artwork! It was inviting and welcoming, and much more interactive than the other museums we visited. Also, unlike the other museums, we were able to purchase admission right there and then instead of having to reserve tickets ahead of time. It may not be as popular as the others, but the artwork featured is wonderful. If you like Banksy, then this is the museum you'll want to check out. Moco had a lot of Banksy pieces to view, including sculptures and his famous, controversial pieces. There were other various modern artists spread throughout the museum, as there are three levels to this house. Don't forget to visit the more interactive rooms where you can be a part of the artwork. The visit ends with an outdoor area, of life size sculptures. I enjoyed visiting the Moco Museum, which differed from style, architecture and ambiance to the other museums around. If you enjoy modern artwork, then this is the museum you'll want to visit in Amsterdam. read more
The very idea of a museum that charges admission for visitors to view works by famously anonymous street artist Banksy is ridiculous, but I'm guilty of supporting this craziness by paying my admission fee (and renting an audio guide to boot) to go in the Moco. The museum is located on several floors of an old house in Amsterdam, and it's the perfect setting for a non-traditional art gallery. I realize paying for this exhibit goes against just about everything Banksy stands for, but I had to do it. It offers a rare chance to get up close and intimate with some of his more famous works, most literally hacked out of everyday objects from elsewhere -- a fence in the Bronx, a large portion of drywall from an abandoned hotel on the outskirts of Paris, a manhole cover from a bustling Chicago street, or a chunk of asphalt from a London suburb --and slapped on the wall in a museum in Amsterdam. It. Makes. No. Sense! The gift shop is filled with likely unauthorized prints of Banksy's work which is something I'd never choose to buy, but I suppose if you do decide to part with some cash for a reprint of the girl with the balloon on a cheap baseball hat, then that's one of the most consumerism-based expressions of anarchy I've ever seen. Anyhow, I really loved the exhibit and the audio narration is a must-get if you'd like to learn more about the pieces on display. Photography is allowed and encouraged, and it's a great place to visit once you get over the irony of it all. read more
On a trip to Amsterdam (and a couple cities in Belgium), I visited quiet a few museums. And to be honest, this was one of my favorites! My pro tip would be to buy the early bird (or late bird?) tickets. The museum is a few floors, but it is not super big, so going early saved us a few dollars AND allowed us to have more space to explore. I am not pro when it comes to explaining or understanding art, so I won't even try to get into that. However, I do love modern art, street art, and art with a statement behind it, and you can find all of that here. (It's nothing like the Rijksmuseum, which is just a short walk away.) You'll find Banksy (an exhibit), Lichtenstein, ICY AND SOT, and many others. There are really some cool pieces in here. I only dock it one star, because part of me did feel a little weird about this... a lot of this art was intended to be public art. The majority of the art just seems so.... anti-museum. So... while I paid to see it, and I really enjoyed it, it also didn't seem right. Nonetheless, if you like stuff like that, it is really well curated and a lot of fun to visit! read more

I absolutely loved this gallery. Located in the Museumplein, this place is right in front of the Rijksmuseum and is also next to the Lunch Kiosk. I'm a big fan of Banksy and was 'fangirling' that I got to see the works I am so familiar with seeing on the Internet and social media in person. Had to wait about 20 minutes to get in and buy our tickets for admission, which isn't too bad except that it was about 25 degrees when we went. Also, if you are claustrophobic and/or do not like tight spaces with large crowds, this may be tough for you. The interior of this gallery is quite small and consists of 3 floors I believe. They do not seem to have a cap on the amount of people they let in so you will be shoulder to shoulder the whole time. This makes it hard to get around especially since most people are stopping for selfies and have their bags on. If you can get over the fact there are about a million people inside a matchbox sized house, then it is still an awesome place to check out. Their gift shop is loaded with awesome stuff and I just wish I had more room to bring home 1 of everything. read more
This museum is a must if you are a Banksy fan! I'm not sure how he would feel about it himself, considering you have to pay to see his artwork at this museum, and the whole point of street art is that it can be viewed by anyone... But putting that aside, I absolutely enjoyed the pieces. Some of his famous work such as the girl with the balloon were here and other pieces as well I had never seen before. You start the museum on the top floor (3rd floor) and make your way down to the bottom. The museum exhibit is in an old house so not your standard museum. All in all I think it was definitely worth going, as my boyfriend who didn't even know much about art enjoyed it himself! read more

I really enjoyed the Moco Museum and recommend it to everyone. Especially if your visiting the Rijksmuseum (its right by it) This museum had about 4 stories and so much artwork to enjoyed. All the artwork was very modern. They had some amazing art pieces outside as well. If you in Amsterdam, be sure to visit the Moco Museum. read more
Great exhibits - small and intimate. Wouldn't want to visit if it's too crowded. They did a good job with the audio guides. Banksy exhibit was fantastic. The store also carried items that wouldn't be available to us online in the US. Must go! read more

Fantastic Banksy and Lichtenstein exhibits. Great use of building space from the top floor to basement. Banksy exhibit included lots of private collection and preserved street art including pylons and cement blocks. Lichtenstein exhibit features an interactive 3D room - very fun for photos. The gift shop selection has something for everyone. My favorite museum while on vacation to Amsterdam. Entry fee is low priced and there's no need to pre-purchase tickets online. Quite crowded with a low-moderate noise level only from bodies shifting around rooms. Only minutes away from Riks Museum and the I Am Amsterdam sign. Tons of places to eat nearby. read more

Visiting Amsterdam for the first time and there are a lot of museum options. The Van Gogh museum and the Anne Frank House are far more popular however, and the tickets usually need to be bought in advance. I was traveling solo and my dumbass didn't think to do this, so I settled on Moco, but honestly, Moco might've been better. The entire gallery takes about an hour and a half and includes some of the private collection of more modern artists such as Basquiat (it was only one Basquait but still), Kaws (I don't really know much about Kaws other than everything he does reminds me of Marshmello), and most notably Banksy. I'm not an art guy per se but it was cool seeing some of the newer artists. I wasn't much of a Van Gogh guy to begin with anyway . That coupled with the fact that it's closed to the central Amsterdam area and easy to access by train or walk makes it a great pit stop on your tour of Amsterdam. I recommend for all your auteurs out there. My only regret is not buying an overpriced Banksy hoodie from the souvenir shop. Sriview definitely go here PS they have one of those rooms that's like an art exhibit with glow in the dark purple balls that's perfect for your basic Instagram if that's the sort of thing you're into (I swear everyone has been to one of those infinity light exhibits) read more

This was such a cool museum. My boss recommended this to me after visiting a few months ago, and it didn't disappoint! If you like Banksy, you HAVE to visit. Even if you don't, it has such a cool vibe. There were more rooms than I expected but just know this is a small museum. There are some fun structures outside to take photos with and a gift shop inside to buy items with Banksy art on it. I would definitely come back again. read more

Great little museum in the museum district of Amsterdam. They specialize in modern art exhibits and it was the Banksy exhibit that brought us here. Prices are fair (€15) and there is a great souvenir shop before exiting. The only thing I didn't like was some rooms have large windows and the sunlight reflects off the glass cover of each piece and reflects a lot in the room, making it hard to concentrate on the piece itself. read more

Fun, interesting and educational. The museum is an old pink house. There is definitely a contrast of what it looks like from the outside to the art that is inside -modern, contemporary, street art. We saw artwork from Kusama, Warhol and Bansky. I had so much fun seeing the exhibits. Worth the visit! read more

An absolutely brilliant gallery, when we visited the queue was short for the amount of amazing Street Art by Banksy, and POP Art by Warhol. If you are in town before 3 July, ensure you catch some of Warhol's famous pieces by popping in ;-) read more

This place was great. We visited for the Banksy exhibit and were pleasantly surprised to see the Roy Lichtenstein art on display as well. It's a small space -- a converted house -- but that just makes it feel more intimate. There were tons of awesome pieces from both artists, including a large interactive room as part of the Lichtenstein exhibit, as well as an awesome gift shop. A very affordable museum, too! read more
