This was my first and, unfortunately, last visit to Stoble Coffee Shop in Chico…read more I was the only customer standing in line, and there were four employees behind the counter. I stood there for approximately 5-7 minutes without being acknowledged, greeted, or even told that someone would be with me shortly. Finally, I said, "Excuse me, is this still the line to order?" The employee, whose name I believe was Emil (or Amil), very coldly responded, "Yeah, but as you can see, I'm busy," while he was working with one of the coffee machines. I told him that he could have simply said, "Good morning," or acknowledged me. Instead, he shrugged his shoulders and showed no concern whatsoever about how I had been treated. As a woman of color in an environment where everyone else appeared to be white, I found the experience extremely uncomfortable and felt unwelcome. I cannot speak to his intentions, but the way I was treated made me question whether I was being treated differently because of my race. It would have taken two seconds to say, "Good morning, we'll be right with you." Instead, I was ignored for several minutes and then spoken to in a dismissive and unapologetic manner. Customer service and basic courtesy should apply to everyone. Unfortunately, this was a very unpleasant first experience, and I will not be returning.

First time here. Stopped in for a quick sip. It was right down the block from where I needed to be…read moreso I took advantage of the location. Walked in to an empty cafe, that soon changed. I must have showed up at the right time. Ordered a cortado from the gentleman who made my coffee as well, and took a seat at the window bar. First sips. Pretty good. Nicely balanced espresso. Mild citrus and floral notes with rich chocolate and brown sugar that lingers on the palate. Medium bitterness, but nice. What a great little spot. BUT then... I finished my coffee and politely asked where I could put my dirty cup, as opposed to leave it where I sat. (Welp... don't expect Dutch Bros-in your face, friendly) I asked the girl behind the counter who was annoyed I bothered her. She pointed and said over there. Which was not very apparent. So I went over in that direction and seen an empty counter. I didn't want to just set it there, so I asked an older gentleman and he nodded and pointed. No words necessary I guess. There was a cart tucked in the corner with an empty bus tub. Nothing points or says please put your dirty stuff here. But I'm going to say that's where they go. Why my question was such a bother was unknown. You guys got good coffee. But your personalities are worse than Eeyore.

Seriously disappointing. The staff was friendly enough but super concerned about their personal conversation and not me or the customer behind me. I decided on the Milky Way Mocha which is a standard mocha but with caramel. This honestly tasted like a bad cup of hot chocolate. It literally was straight sugar, I couldn't taste coffee/espresso at all. I ended up throwing half of it out. I also got a slice of lemon poppyseed bread that initially looked like it might've been made in house but after unwrapping it, it seemed more like it came in a loaf from Sam's Club or Costco and was sliced and wrapped in plastic wrap. All that for $9 was not what I would call a great start to my day.

I was smiling before ordering because of the picture in the bathroom! Very small amount of seats (probably 20 at most) and only 2 people working which was all they needed. The baristas were friendly and knowledgable! I needed a nap, so I did NOT go with a cold brew! They had big dispensers of 4 different kinds of coffee, and there decaf house blend was ok. They do have an option to get an iced coffee with frozen coffee cubes in it which is something I love! My small complaint is that back in the hall of the bathroom you could see an open closet with all the cleaning supplies in it. Not the most appetizing thing. They did have a bunch of options of food available, but also were not fresh and wrapped in plastic wrap. I did see a burrito made fresh which was huge and looked good, but not a fan of just a random open closet. Overall if you want a quiet place with friendly staff and a wide array of choices to taste some stuff this is a great place to go. Nothing significant to separate it and get 5 stars, a couple of small things, but for a local coffee shop def worth a visit!! Well done Cal Java!!

They have a great and complete menu for coffee and foods. I would like to come back and try some of their premium beans next time I come by. It is nice to see the care put into each drink and the patience is making sure everything is correct. Everyone was quite happy with their drinks, especially my daughter with the whipped cream on her straw for her hot cocoa. The food was all nice and fresh as well, everyone was quite happy with what we got. I'm glad my wife pointed this place out from her high school days and that it is right around the corner from my in-laws. Definitely will be coming back here every time we visit.
