Upon my second visit the sweet spot was where I further delighted my taste buds, as I enjoyed a piece of MACHA cheesecake, dotted with a ripe raspberry garnish, and was light and airy, yet rich in flavor. The MACHA cake and MACHA Muffin were baked to perfection, loaded with delicate flavor and definitely something worth coming back for. The MACHA gelato was a creamy, melt-in-your-mouth consistency, that was a refreshing end to a delicious meal. I also enjoyed a MACHA soy latte, which is one of the best I've ever had. I'm really happy that MACHA has been established, as it fills a culinary void I never even knew I was missing. #68-2016: Today I…read morewent to Chinatown to celebrate the Chinese New Year (of the monkey) and I have realize I never did a review on Kathay (though I have come some 3 times over the past year). Though many are the ethnic food stores popping up like mushrooms after as storm, Kathay still has the most prominent and extensive collection of ethnic ingredients. Why should I travel all this way to Chinatown to get spices for my meals? Because this market has fresh roots, spices, veggies, fruits, blends, teas, pots sodas and plenty more. Do you need cilantro? Here you can get a good size bunch for a decent price. Looking for ginger roots to mix in your infusion? Fresh and fairly priced. How about some fresh curcuma roots? They got them. What is more, the store is subdivided by country (Japan, Vietnam, China, Bangladesh... to name a few). They have quite the collection of South American products as well. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable. NOT the friendliest but still very efficient. So, when hunting for hard to find ingredients, don't give up all hope till you have tried here.

The biggest sections are of course dedicated to the chinese and japanese cuisines, with sauces, pastas, seaweeds, teas and frozen goods (mochi! and natto!). They also sell rice cookers and other exotic kitchenware. The prices vary, but it's never over-expensive. For luxury goods like matcha, however, you won't find a good one here, for that I still count on shippings from Japan. They have a ceramics section with many beautiful cups and plates on display, and every once in a while they put some them on sale, so that's another good side of Kathay.

Ripassando oggi ho visto in menu anche gli Xiao Lon bao e I San ji bao, che teoricamente sarebbero tipo gli Xiao Lon bao, ma passati alla piastra. Mi accomodo e ordino esattamente quelle tre cose. Le ragazze molto gentili e interni accoglienti, moderni e puliti. Arriva per primo il riso, mi avvento subito, ma rimango deluso. Mi aspettavo tanto uovo bello arioso e soffice, in realtà era tutto piuttosto secco e molto salato, ne ho lasciato metà. Poi arrivano i San ji bao alla piastra e ahimè sono quelli più panosi. Il ripieno di maiale molto buono, ma l'involucro non è il mio tipo, quindi lo lascio lì e mangio solo il ripieno. Infine arrivano gli Xiao Lon bao, finalmente qualcosa di buono sopra la media. Forse un po' grandini, ma comunque buoni. Se i San ji bao avessero avuto questo tipo di pasta, sarebbero stati ottimi. Tutto comunque molto salato, forse un po' troppo. Insomma sono rimasto un po' deluso, probabilmente è colpa mia che avevo alzato le aspettative un po' troppo.

My sister ordered the regular black milk tea and I ordered the taro milk tea for 3.50€ each. I wasn't the hugest fan of the black milk tea but the sweet taro milk tea was great. The usually graininess of the taro powder was missing and instead was the thick consistency of real blended taro. The tapioca bubbles weren't too bad, either. A must stop by after dinner in Milan's Chinatown!
