It had a homey feel and the ladies working there were so friendly and welcoming. They offer hair services in the front and had rooms in the back for head massages. It was such a relaxing 60 minutes to get a deep scalp massage and some neck and shoulder work too. I had a basic facial here and experienced burning on my eyelids during the service. I was initially told that no product was applied to that area, but based on the sensation and what was later shared with me, it seems likely that something came into contact with my eyelids during the treatment. After following up, I was shown multiple products that were used, including a cleanser containing mandelic and lactic acids, as well as a mask labeled to avoid the eye area. This was concerning, especially since I had been told that no active ingredients were used. I also had difficulty getting a clear and consistent list of all products used, which made it harder to understand what may have caused the reaction. That said, they were responsive and ultimately offered a partial refund and acknowledged that more care should be taken to avoid the eye area during treatments. This salon is the first of its kind in PDX, providing scalp treatments is a fancy word, the simpler term is washing and massaging only your hair. Outside of Vietnam, this specialized service is a novelty in the USA. You need to experience it once to decide if this service is for you. For those who have experienced this service in Vietnam, you will be unsatisfied as it's not even close to comparable with what you have had in Vietnam. Since it was my first time, I got the Express Wash Scalp Treating 30 minutes for $59. This is the cheapest scalp treatment. It goes up to 90 minutes for $159 with add on options. They do offer facial treatments and haircuts as well. It was exactly 30 minutes as listed on the menu for my option, the Express Wash Scalp Treatment for $59 plus $10 tip with a total of $69. I gave $70 cash. There are only 3 stations for the scalp treatment so it's tight and not much privacy nor relaxation because they've only separated using a thin cloth hanging from the ceiling. I would not come back for the service because for the price it's not practical nor worthwhile for me. To be fair, I got the most luxurious service with the same treatment almost daily in Vietnam whenever I visited so it's unfair to compare so I shared for perspective. I do wish more places in the USA offer this service, yet I understand the licensing predicament and profitability to sustain such specialized service. For their grand opening they were offering 30% for the month of October. So I decided I'd book a natural scalp treatment session for my boyfriend & I. Although I wanted to go to the closer one, I agreed since they were still going to honor the discount. We got there & filled out a questionnaire regarding skin & hair. Once done, we were escorted to a room that was meant for 2 people, which makes sense now why they suggested we come to this one. Kelly Huynh was my aesthetician and I was honestly blown away. I had a head spa in Taiwan and have since been obsessed. The complication is they don't have them in Portland... that is until I found Moc Beauty on Instagram! I've been pretty stressed out from work and have been having some pretty bad migraine crisis' so I booked a session with Kelly. I didn't know what each session would be like so I requested the 75 minute session thinking that might be too long. When I got there Kelly greeted me and explained the different services offered and told me that the 90 would include a mini facial. Hell why not, I haven't had a facial in months. But I was worried 90 would be too long. Now that it's over I wished it was longer. I feel relaxed, my muscles don't feel tight, my scalp feels CLEAN, I feel rested like I can take on the day! The facial however was more geared to spa than medical. No extractions peels, just cleansing and feeling pampered. Directions are a little wonky if you're coming from west side but there is awkward street parking. The inside is a little tight with only 3 beds but Kelly mentioned there will be another location opening soon! I'm definitely being my husband and girlfriends here. 10/10 recommend. read more

I went last week with my sister in law and this was such a delight. I've never had a scalp massage/treatment. They give you a choice of aromatherapy scents that are used at the beginning of the service. They had such attention to detail and it was so relaxing. We did the 75 minute treatment - there was so much done that I couldn't even begin to tell you the amount of things that happened. They did several treatments to your scalp and face. There was also a lovely shoulder/back massage. They end the session with some tea and a blow dry. My hair was the softest it's ever been at the end. Highly recommend for a little treat for yourself - it is pricey but I think as a special thing, it's worth it! read more

I was able to get a COVID Conscious head spa treatment at MOC, because on of the providers, Kelly, was willing to make accommodations for me, and it was fantastic. She saw me before hours, wore an N95 mask for me, and let me bring in an air purifier. I was the only person in the private room, and so I felt safe. The service itself was so wonderful, it's part scalp treatment, part facial, part massage, and all of it was skillful and appreciated. I was able to choose the essential oil I wanted, and adjust how hard the massage was. Everything was about my comfort, and making sure I was relaxed. I left moisturized absolutely everywhere, and feeling like a million bucks. I'd looked around and MOC is also the most affordable for these services, and that was appreciated, too. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions after enjoying a service at Moc beauty. I just think that a couple things have to be looked at before you go. One, these prices are rather inexpensive for what you're getting and two, it is in a house, there are other people around so know that and adjust your expectations before you go. I went for the "Scalp and Soul treatment" and thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone was friendly, I was give a room alone to change and then given pillows for under my knees. The 90 minutes I got lost in, enjoying the pressure on my head and massage. This isn't a medical spa....its more a relaxing spa. The heated eye mask while my scalp was being massaged allowed me the sense of being alone, the scalp scrub sent tingles down my back and the massage was fantastic. read more

There was an abandoned vehicle in front that had been stripped, windows were knocked out, seats were partially hanging out & ect, so I was slightly concerned about the safety of my vehicle. 2. The location is essentially a house with a sign on the door. Upon trying to enter, it was locked and someone had to open it for me. The staff was very nice, but I was confused because it looked like I had walked into a small hair salon instead of a spa. My daughter was handed a clip board with a dry erase pen to pick an essential oil & to answer a few other questions. I found it odd. I left and sat in my car, then returned 90 minutes later to pay for my daughter's service. I paid the $159 plus a $20 tip because it's a service. When my daughter walked out of the room I could see she was not happy. She wanted to just leave but they told her they would dry her hair. After a few minutes she declined them finishing the drying & wanted to leave. We get to the car & this is what she said: -The worst facial she's ever had. She said they just applied 15 creams on her face including on her eyelids. -The scalp treatment was painful. There was nothing relaxing about it. She said her head was being roughly scratched and her ears were filled with water. -The massage was ok but she said the table was painfully uncomfortable. She said it felt like a slab of wood with a sheet over it. -There is no privacy. She had to change out of her clothes with a thin sheet hanging up between her and the stranger next to her. -She also said it lacks cleanliness & she doubts they have a license to do those services because they were unskilled. In short, it was a waste of $179. The staff was kind, but that's not enough to utilize them again. We will not be returning. read more

This could be dependent on your scalp care technician, but i felt like mine was scratching my head very roughly with her sharp nailed the whole time. I've been to 3 different scalp spas and this was by far my favorite experience. Amy was so welcoming from the minute I walked in and provided an amazing experience. Was a hoping that it would this ultimate relaxation, and was farthest thing from it. the scalp massage was very agressive and very intense. I was hoping for more hair treatments, massaging of the scalp and hair masks. But then they move on to a very short minimal facial, which I did not want and quite frankly left my skin very very dry. The also spray water like right over/into your eyes and it was noticeable enjoyable. I got lots of water in my ears and thats pretty uncomfortable. I really expected more for $100 and was severly disappointed. And at then end they offer to blow dry your hair, but as someone with curly hair, that's not really an option. I became obsessed with scalp spas after seeing them on social media so I was excited to find a locally-owned one in Portland. I've now gone twice -- once to their NE location and once to the new location on Lafayette. Overall, the experience is fairly nice. The staff is friendly and helpful, and my scalp felt clean after. It was generally a relaxing experience. However, there are some significant suggestions I think need to be considered: - the room with the spa beds is SO cramped. You're right on top of each other and there's little privacy with only gauzy, thin curtains separating them. It's awkward moving around and getting situated. - the beds are hard and not very comfortable. For laying there at least an hour, I wished there was some padding. Also, if you're tall, the beds won't be long enough. My husband's feet dangled off the edge. - my biggest gripe is that I question if the staff are all truly estheticians or masseuses because there's a lack of professionalism. The staff is not disrespectful or anything (they're quite friendly, in fact) but I think they're not well-versed on certain spa etiquette and protocol. If you're in there with another guest, there's constant giggling and whispering between the staff members working, which is distracting when you're trying to relax. The first time I went, the employee "massaged" my throat for some reason, and it actually hurt because she pressed way too hard, over and over my windpipe, and it felt like I was being lightly choked. The second time I went, the employee was sniffling sick over my head the whole time (hopefully just allergies..) and had to leave the room at least once to tend to her runny nose. The ear cupping was outright painful because it created awful suction. Both times, my fine and thin hair got tangled up horribly and was ripped through with a brush after the massage. - the price is also pretty steep for what one may expect when they think of a spa. My husband and I went together and it was $298, before tips. For that price, we could have had a couple's massage at a typical day spa that would have been quieter and more private. There is a niche being filled here, however, and I think it's got great potential. The idea of a spa that focuses primarily on scalp massages is really cool and given it's a popular trend, I'm sure Moc will get a lot of business. I'm interested to see if third time's the charm for me, but I may wait a bit to see what others' reviews will say before returning. read more

Absolutely awful! Came in a few months ago on a cold late winter day. Had appointment for delux package scalp treatment. Room was tiny with see-through curtains where I was supposed to undress. I could literally SEE a guy laying there two beds down but yet was supposed to disrobe in view of him. Laid down for the treatment and it was relaxing for about 5 minutes until they hosed down my head with ice cold water. They told me their hot water was out. And then continued to use ice cold water on me. I honestly was so chilled from the first time I never recovered and was uncomfortably cold the entire time. I should have got up and left (they should have cancelled the appointment if they didn't have running hot water). The over the ear cupping was like freaking torture. The rough scratching of the scalp felt good at first but was too much, too rough and was painful, the opposite of relaxing. At checkout, I told the owner I did not enjoy it because it was so cold. She offered me $5 off in increments until I just gave up and paid. Shame on them for allowing a water treatment service to occur with frigid water. Terrible! read more

Staff was very nice and friendly so I feel bad, but I expected a relaxing and quiet room and there was loud talking from the lobby and talking going on with my technician during the massage. The bed is also very hard and uncomfortable to lay on for over an hour. The head massage itself wasn't super relaxing and was a lot more like scratching and rubbing. I also thought I would get some education on my scalp or the treatments being done but that didn't take place and I left with wet and greasy hair. I really wanted to like this place. I went in for the deluxe scalp spa for $160. The room has two beds, so you're changing in the room with a stranger. It is not relaxing to be laying in a bed next to a stranger with a thin curtain, separating the two beds in a very small room. My masseuse and I use that term lightly. She did not massage my scalp pretty much just raked my hair with her fingers, moving my head side to side. After they attempt to blow dry your hair, but I have curly hair and she had no idea what she was doing leaving my hair in knots. I asked her to stop halfway through so I can just finish it at home now. My hair is super dry and frizzy and it's never been this dry. read more
