However I have to give Ms. Hastie full credit for turning the Mobile County License Commissioner's locations around and making them a LOT more efficient than what they used to be, especially the one in Theodore. Before Ms. Hastie took over in years past you would walk in and expect a 45 minute to 1 1/2 hour wait just to get your car tags. Adding to the misery of having to sit/stand in a room with what seemed like over 100+/- people there waiting for their number to be called there would be 10 to 12 (I think) service windows there but only about 3 of them were open. On top of that you'd see a lot of the workers in the back sitting on their tails either jacking their jaws on the phone, filing their nails, yak-yakking with each other or even some sitting there with a look on their face like they were lost in outer space! Well, that was then this is now! I recently went there to have 3 car tags renewed; when I walked in only 2 windows were closed and the rest had friendly nice ladies there eagerly waiting to help. From the time I arrived, walked inside, got my number, had my number called, paid for my tags received new tags and left the building a little over 8 minutes had lapsed! WOW!!! Again, thank you Ms. Hastie for turning that train-wreck of a place around. When others could've took the lead and fixed this place instead of standing there cross-eyed gawking with their thumbs up their butts Ms. Hastie stepped up to the plate and fixed it! Now when I have to get my tags renewed I thankfully don't have to wait forever anymore. :)

I am posting this because the envelope in which the "NOTICE OF NON-COMPLIANCE" came in had the words "CRIMINAL" on the front, above and to the left of the address window. This I take issue with as a veteran and former law enforcement officer. I have never been a CRIMINAL; a non-compliance property violation sure does not make me one either. The envelope from the "Clerk of Court and Comptroller" with CRIMINAL above the address window caused my young son to ask if I was a CRIMINAL when he brought the mail in. Any parent who is not a CRIMINAL should not have to have that conversation with their child. Is this a tactic used by Santa Rosa county to get these types of issues resolved? It sure does seem that way. Defamation of my character in this petty, ridiculous manner is a much worse violation than a Non-Compliance Notice violation, which is a non-criminal matter.

The waiting room is designed to accommodate a LARGE number (almost a hundred) of people, including those who may have special physical needs. Clear signs let you know where to go, which number is being served and which windows are available. Our agent was friendly and quite helpful. I'm rather surprised by the effectiveness and efficiency of the location. In the future, I won't dread any necessary visit.
