It was also cited as one of the top retirement destinations by "Where to Retire,'' magazine. Fairhope is known for its lovely parks, festivals, and its panoramic views of the Bay, shops, boutiques, cafes, art galleries, gift shops, and seafood restaurants. One of those seafood restaurants is my favorite "Sunset Pointe" but my overall favorite is Gambino's, with excellent Italian fare, while Panini Pete's and there's certainly a lot of great locally owned and operated food choices and it's also home to the popular Fairhope Brewing Company. They have lots of indoor and outdoor events with an art gallery, film festival, golf course, Bald Eagle Bash, Yacht Club and much more. This weekend (3/18/22) they're about to celebrate the Fairhope Arts and Crafts Festival, and the Fairhope Beach and Park is popular for swimming, its views, and relaxing on picturesque Mobile Bay. I would be remiss if I didn't mention The Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa, situated on the Bay on 550 acres that's a hidden jewel, rich with tradition for 170 years, it's quite special indeed. I arrived at 2:27 pm and my appointment was for 2:30 pm. I checked in and received my number. The chairs were full. My number was called and I was leaving at 2:42 pm. The lady helping me was very personable and very efficient. I recommend everyone to make an appointment online to avoid a long wait or pay the extra dollar and mail the renewal in. Also do not forget they charge extra for you to use your credit/debit card .

Neat little historical place in Fairhope. It is a little confusing because the directions will lead…read moreyou to a office park, it is located in the parking lot directly behind the offices. Originally, Tolstoy Park was 10 acres in the woods, and secluded. Henry Stuart, The Hermit Poet, moved to Fairhope, Alabama from Idaho because he was diagnosed with consumption (tuberculosis) when he was 65 during the 1920's. The doctor recommended he move to a warmer climate for his health, and Henry Stuart bought ten acres, sight unseen. Mr Stuart ended up living another 22 years before he moved back to Oregon at the age of 88 and passed away. His home is unique, it is round, hurricane proof, and particularly dug into the ground to help regulate temperature. Th Tolstoy House is on The National Register of Historic Places. It is a unique and peaceful place, great for kids, and unique.
