Usually I fill up at Costco 1/2 mile north on the same road, but sometimes don't have time to wait in line, it's after hours, or my car craves something better. And Shell has pretty good gas. Last week, I was going up to the valley and short on time due to morning traffic. As soon as I went here, my card was declined for no reason so I used a different card. Wouldn't you know it, within 12 hours of that event, my debit card was stolen. Yep, these guys stole it (I know, because the only other places I used it were a Universal Studios gift shop, and a Chase ATM inside the branch). After more research to confirm what seemed pretty obvious, it turns out several franchised Shell stations in L.A. with similar ownership are known for pulling this ripoff. And they don't even sell lotto tickets, so you'll have to stop somewhere else if you want to grab one of those anyway, so why bother? I thought this was pretty weird, but when you're stealing people's bank funds to make up for low gas sales, why bother with Lottery? Just sell cigarettes, gas, and drain people's bank accounts or sell them on the Internet to people who do (my bank card number was attempted for purchase to buy exactly $100 - presumably an untraceable gift card - at a Lowe's in Georgia, while I was still in CA). Go to the Costco or Chevron up the street, or a different Shell down the street. Don't get ripped off.
