Do not go here! although the staff was nice. we had a misunderstanding with the level of rider my husband had indicated he was and rather than switch out the horse for him when we arrived - they were in a rush because they had a film crew waiting (not my problem as safety should have been the priority). My husband ended up on a horse that would not be directed properly and wanted to go back to the barn- so she started BUCKING him- very scary. The worst part was that the owner took ZERO responsibility for this incident and basically called me a liar. wow - so much for the customer is always right. My husband was so shaken up he did not go on the ride at all and the owner would not refund the ride or even entertain our side of the story saying that since we were 10 min late it was OUR fault! Mind you the place is in the middle of nowhere with no cell or GPS available and spotty signage once you make the turn into the driveway. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. **here's an update: they did refund the ride but that was not communicated to me on the hostile phone call I received from the barn - maybe the owner ? Beautiful trail, affordable tour, friendly service but untrained horses & inexperienced tour guides. Our guide started 2 months ago & her helper 2 days ago. I would not recommend this tour for younger kids (under 10) or inexperienced riders. The horses were not well behaved & were hard to control, even the helper got thrown off a hill by her horse, thankfully she didn't hit her head on a rock. I've ridden horses 10+ times & I never felt scared before. My horse Jem was very difficult, she kept trotting every time we went downhill & I almost fell off twice. She also kicked & injured 2 other horses who got too close. I wasn't able to ride with my kids since the horses decided where they wanted to be & the tour guides had a hard time corralling horses when taking a group photo. This was a pretty cool horse back ride near the Onion Creek area. We arrived a few minutes early and the team was getting the horses ready for the day. All of the horses are very well taking care of and it shows. You are matched with a horse by the tour guide and they keep an eye on everyone the entire time. There is a guide in the front of the team and a helper in the back. All of them are experienced riders. Before the ride begins, so basic riding skills are provided. You will use a few, but the horses basically just follow each other, so don't be concerned if this is your first ride. It was cool to see some of the areas a lot of popular movies were filmed. If you want an easy slow view of some awesome areas, this tour is for you. read more

Super beautiful ride through movie territory. Our horses were beautiful and solid. I've been riding most of my life and enjoyed the responsiveness of my horse Cash. Every horse there is absolutely beautiful. You won't find any boring looking horses. Our Wrangler was friendly and engaging. She told us all about the rock formations we could see. We were out for almost three hours and covered 6.5-7 miles. It was a great ride! My only gripe was that rider ability was not really taken into account and it was a nose to tail walk ride the whole time. Since everyone in the group was an experienced rider, I would've thought we could do more than follow the leader. However, I could have paid for a private ride if that was going to be a real issue. I didn't and it was still a fabulous experience. If you have limited to no horse experience, they will take care of you. You'll be safe and have a fabulous time. If you're well experienced, consider a private ride or just chill and enjoy the incredible scenery. read more

Horseback riding in Moab is a must-do! My wife and I had the best time exploring the beauty of Moab by horseback, there's really no better way to experience it. Owners John and Sena are excellent guides and are full of history and fun facts about the area, which I really enjoyed. They have some beautiful horses all seemed very well-trained and responsive. I've been all over Moab in Jeeps, but exploring the valley on horseback was incredible and I highly recommend it! read more

My wife and I had a great time at the Hauer Ranch outside of Moab. It's a leisurely trail ride through some beautiful country where quite a few movies were filmed. Hauer Ranch is really nice! The ranch is beautiful and the wranglers are very nice and supportive. The head wrangler clearly had the most horse knowledge, whereas the other wranglers -- one in particular, was basically a beginner. We had a big group and wranglers with more experience would have been better for the entire group since the head wrangler was at the front. My rating mostly reflects my concern about one of the horses. This horse in particular had explosive diarrhea. As an experienced horse person with over 20 years of horse ownership experience, it was clear this horse was sick. The head wrangler said it was due to old age and the horse is fed probiotics. Old age doesn't cause explosive diarrhea. This horse was also very grumpy with its ears back most of the time. I told the head wrangler that the horse probably has stomach ulcers, with no response. read more

Do not go to this ranch!!!! It's as bad as the other reviewers said on Trip Advisor. NOTE: This is Hauer Ranch. They recently changed their name to Moab Horses (likely due to a lot of very negative reviews about horses that hurt and scared people and owners who are abusive towards guests). These owners are downright abusive. The wrangler even apologized for the female owner's abusive behavior and said she attacks guests often. He said she goes from "0 to 1,000,000 in aggressiveness instantly". She almost got our child very seriously injured and she did get her thrown from her horse. It was traumatizing for her and she'll likely never ride horses again. Let me explain... After getting lost (directions are mediocre), we arrived one minute before our scheduled ride. The owner came out chastising us and spewing crazy stories and being extremely aggressive. It shocked all of us. We had no idea what she was talking about. She intimidated our 8 year old but foolishly, we decided to continue the ride. The wrangler was clearly shaken up by her behavior but was extremely nice to us. He was helping our little one get her helmet tightened when the owner yelled at him not to help. (I know, we should have left!) At one point during the ride, he got off his horse, stepped on his horse's lead rope and his horse freaked out, causing our 8 year old's horse to freak out and throw her hard to the ground. After many tears, she was willing to get back on. When we got to the barn, the wrangler dropped the lead rope of her horse which her horse then stepped on which caused it to start bucking and jumping. Had our little one not held on for dear life, she surely would have been crushed. We were horrified as we watched the whole scene play out. We don't blame the wrangler. The owner's abusive behavior clearly rattles him, causing him to make mistakes I don't think he would have otherwise made. In frustration and after feeling terrible about what he put our 8 year old through, he shared that the owner "often sabotages my rides" by being vicious to certain guests. I told him to work in a less abusive environment. Pay attention to how this outfit responds to guest complaints on TA. They are aggressive and mean. it will tell you everything you need to know. The female owner very clearly has a personality disorder and needs help. This is your life and these people are not responsible, safe people. Do not ride horses with them!!!! p.s. As an aside, I've been riding for 30 years. I've been to at least 50 guest ranches. This place is the worst I've seen. p.p.s. The other horses on the ride sucked. They bit each other. They pinned their ears back in aggressive ways. They didn't listen. read more

The scenery was breathtaking and exactly what we were looking for in a Moab ride, the ride felt just long enough and we went through creeks and up and down hills, it was just a blast. My family had a great time horseback riding. We haven't done this in a very long time. I called to make reservations. We easily found the ranch (just follow the directions they give or use your GPS) and were given a little training on how to handle the horses. After being assigned a horse, we were off! Chloe, our lead wrangler, was so cheerful and fun. She always kept on an eye on the line up of the horses, and shouted out helpful hints to riders if their horse got out of line up. She pointed out where City Slickers and Kevin Costner's new movie was/is being filmed, and she pointed out their local prickly pear. They rechecked all our horse saddles at mid-point. It was a nice 2 hr ride through beautiful Moab area beginning at 3pm. We had 10 people in our group ranging from 12, 14, 16 and older. It was a fun thing to do in Moab. I felt safe and cared for. I would definitely recommend and do this again with Moab Horses. read more

Can't recommend them enough! Our group of 11 had so much fun! Charlie and Madalene (hope that is spelled right!) were excellent guides. They let us have some freedom and helped us work with our horses so we were all comfortable. The horses had such great personalities and we all felt they did a great job pairing us with an appropriate horse (spunky for the trained riders, "low and slow" for those that felt more uncomfortable on a horse.) If we're ever in the area again we will definitely come back. Ask Charlie about movie trivia in the area! He is so knowledgeable about various films that were made nearby. Moab Horses at Hauer Ranch provided a wonderful horseback-riding experience for our family. We arrived 10 minutes late (the location of Hauer Ranch on Google Maps was misleading), but the guides were attentive and quick to get us mounted. A brief overview, and we were away on our ride. Our younger kids, 7 and 9, often struggled to keep their horses (mules, actually) in line, and the guides were right there, pleasantly getting them back on track. As we rode through shallow streams and up and down small hills, the guides informed us about the area in a family-friendly way. All the while, the surroundings were true wild west: brown sands checkered with scrub brush to the distant buttes and rock towers. read more

My friend and I used to own horses so we were a little skeptical of doing a livery ride. (Sometimes they are boring and give you the worst horses) Luckily this experience turned out to be wonderful and I'm so glad we chose this company. A group of us came from California for the amazing 4x4 trails in Moab. After four days of that we split up to do our own thing for a day. Four of us decided to go horseback riding. I couldn't have been happier with our choice! The horses were well taken care of and seemed to enjoy what they were doing. The scenery was beautiful, and riding through the little stream was fun. Jonathan was great as the guide, he gave great instruction on how to handle the horses and told great stories! This was a great ranch. All in all the experience was lovely and the wrangler was really enjoyable. Darby was very funny and wise and helpful and confident. The scenery was beautiful and we learned a lot about the area. The ride was a bit slow and these are trail horses, they take a bit of work to keep them moving along. I am an experienced equestrian, but without horses anymore trail rides are a great way to introduce my children. She did great with my kids and gave my little girl control of the reigns for a while. Whether or not you have horse experience I think this is a great all around experience. But if you are looking for some running around and excitement, maybe not. read more

A good experience in beautiful scenery. Sena - the owner - was very helpful in setting up our trip. Our group of 8 had 5 riders (three under age 13) who had never been on a horse before. And they were nervous! But the horses were all very well trained and mellow and made it easy for the beginners. We were given a quick (a little too quick) intro on how to handle our horses and then were saddled up for a quick walk around the round-pen. Once everyone was mounted we headed out on the trail. The scenery is incredible and you quickly feel like you are in the middle of nowhere and are passing through an old Western movie set. We did the late afternoon ride and the "light-show" on the mountains as the sun was setting was incredible. Our only complaint was with our guide. Jonathan was a bit aggressive and rough-around-the-edges. He is a good ol' boy and at times was short with the kids, a bit chauvinistic and rather than tell us about the scenery and history of the area he talked a lot about himself. While he did make everyone feel safe on their horses (he's definitely a cowboy) his manner was not the best. When we got back Sena came out to meet us and made sure each kid went home with a horseshoe. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely return to Moab Horses. read more
