I am so grateful for MN Pets and their amazing support and compassion during the very sad process of saying good bye. From my first contact by phone I couldn't believe the fantastic response. Even the outgoing voice mail message and continuing understanding and comforting messages while I chose to hold and then leave a voice mail. 5 stars! Unfortunately, I had to say "goodbye" to my big girl," Xena" the Presa Canario. Since she had advanced cancer, I had the option of scheduling her passing with an at home euthanasia service. They were referred to me by my vet at Andover Animal Hospital. So I called MN Pets for the first time. The whole experience was smooth, compassionate, and painless. MN Pets came to my house. I was able to say "goodbye" to Xena in her home, on her favorite Tempur-Pedic mattress and surrounded by her toys & her stinky blankets. (She never liked the blankets after I washed them!) I was so out-of-sorts, I don't remember the names of the doctor and her tech. (To add insult to injury, my father died the day before my dog died.) But they were wonderful. I really can't say enough good things about them. They also made clay foot impressions, they took my big 160 pound girl away, and they mailed me a card with a well-written note. The timing of a pet's passing is hard and for obvious reasons, it isn't always smooth. Many times you aren't able to plan it. I've been struck lately by the number of people I encounter with pets who are in end-of-life stages. While it's always heartbreaking to lose a beloved pet I have noticed another layer of grief after 2020. These animals helped us get through one of the hardest years of our lives and because of that, the bond is even stronger. I was impressed by how kind the person's voice was and how there was no pressure whatsoever to make a decision in that moment. Day-of the euthanasia a veterinarian and a vet tech arrived at the house. They were both so compassionate and sweet and gave us plenty of time throughout the different steps to have private moments while they waited outside or nearby. They are literal earth angels. Everyone I interacted with -- whether by phone, email, or in person -- was exquisitely sensitive and kind. It was such a sad, awful day in so many ways, but having done this with other pets before at vets' offices, saying goodbye at home with MN Pets is a MUCH better experience. All my baby knew was that he met two new friends (Dr. Erica had a lovely DVM student with her), he got some amazing treats, and then all the pain went away. Our dog of 12 years, my best friend in this whole world, suddenly started to decline about a week after we noticed he wasn't wanting to eat as much as he normally did. He was also acting like he no longer knew how to control his back right leg. It kept sliding out from underneath him. We had a normal vet appt scheduled but the day before said appt we noticed blood coming out of his ear and saw that blood entered his left eye, so we took him to the 24hr ER vet. $1,200 overnight visit later all we could figure out is that his red blood cell count was a little low and the overnight vet confirmed had no longer had a connection between his brain and his back right leg. To get more info we would've had to do an MRI or CT scan (I forget which) which would've been thousands more. But with him now being blind in his left eye due to blood entering it, blood coming out of his ear, and him not having control over his back right leg, we knew there was clearly something very wrong that he wouldn't be able to recover from and to spend thousands more just to get a name on the issue would've been pointless. I loved my dog too much to let his quality of life be poor just because I can't imagine this world without him. He had been terrified of the vet his entire life. Ever since adopting him at 9 months old he was a very sensitive boy. He was the most cat-like dog I'd ever met. I do think he had trauma from being in a shelter environment where dogs were barking 24/7. So being in the vet and hearing dogs barking freaked him out and made him pace like crazy. Knowing this the entire 12 years we had him, I couldn't let his last moments on this earth be in the place he hated the most. The day he was discharged we called MN pets and they were incredible. We scheduled an appointment for the next day. I was gutted and couldn't fully fathom what was happening and that I was losing my dog. He and I shared our entire day together doing various things and eating plenty of filet mignon before the vet came at 4:30. Our vet was incredibly kind and respectful of our home and the situation. She was thorough in explaining the process and what to expect. She stepped out and gave us time we needed to love on him before he got the first injection of meds to make him super sleepy and essentially non-responsive. After that first injection we got his paw print impression done. She then stepped out to let us say our final goodbyes to our sweet angel boy. After we did just that, we called her back in and she administered the final injection to stop his heart. She retrieved the bed/carrier she uses to carry pets out to her car. He was tucked in under a nicely folded plaid blanket with his head resting on a matching plaid pillow and she carried him out to her car. We chose private cremation so his ashes would be returned to us, which were ready for pickup about a week-ish after he was put to sleep. I'll use MN pets for all my future animals. The peace of mind in letting them pass in the comfort of their own home is well worth the extra cost. I will miss you for forever, my sweet Cheddar. read more

She will needlessly restrain your perfectly calm cat for the sedation shot, causing your cat's last conscious moments to be unnecessarily confusing fearful and panicked. This service provides kind, gentle care to help you get through a really difficult time. We used them last year when we learned that our beloved Great Dane Daisy had bone cancer. She had suffered a shoulder fracture and it was time to say goodbye. We needed for her to be comfortable and peaceful. We did not want to say goodbye and yet our companion was suffering and was not going to get better. This service allowed us to have the euthanasia done in our home around our schedule. Over the phone they explained what to expect and gave some ideas about how we might want to prepare. The vet who came out was so gentle and compassionate. She encouraged our kids to speak to and hold our girl through the process. Afterwards, she was willing to allow us to act as the pallbearers carrying our baby to her car, because that was our wish. She prepared a soft space for her and tucked her in gently. Afterwards they delivered Daisy's ashes back to us via our own vet in a beautifully carved box and they sent us a lovely condolence card. Dr. Tali was amazing. This was such a hard day for us. She came to the house and was so sensitive to our needs and very patient. On August 29th at 3:37 pm, I lost my best friend, Bindi Sophia Her body ached with pain from 14 long and beautiful years of age, she was tired and telling us it was time to let her go. Today we made the decision to put our beloved 16 year old Oliver down. Over the past several months, Ollie had lost his hearing, his sight and had developed K9 dementia. Although his health wasn't what it had been, he was still able to enjoy many aspects of life - walks in the neighborhood, visiting the grandkids, traveling to the cabin and, of course, table scraps and treats. Three weeks ago he was able to enjoy one last trip to the cabin and seemed as carefree as he had been as a pup. The trip to the cabin this past weekend was not as enjoyable for him. He had stopped eating, wanted to sleep with intermittent cries of anxiety or pain. Last night we had realized that it had come to be his time. After reading articles and tests online to determine his level of quality of life, we researched veterinarians that provided in home euthanasia. He suffered an uncomfortable night and in the morning we contacted MN Pets. The reception staff were courteous, kind and helpful. We were able to get an appointment with Dr. Erica at 12pm - Ollie wouldn't have to continue to suffer. Dr. Erica was wonderful. She was kind and compassionate and patient. She took time to clearly explain the procedure, how Ollie might respond and handled the necessary paperwork with care. She asked about Ollie and stories about our life with him. She made us feel comfortable with her and immediately became a trusted person during this very emotional and intimate time. When it was time, she administered the medication and monitored his heart until he had passed. I will always use MN Pets going forward and can't recommend them enough. It's been a rough year with ups and downs so I reached out several times when we thought it may be time. They are so incredibly kind and genuine in their emails, calls and in person. Dr. Marissa called to let us know she'd be heading over about 20 minutes before which I didn't realize would ease my anxiety so much. She arrived and was SO respectful of Covid procedures (last thing on our minds when you're saying goodbye). She came and sat in the sun room with us and first just talked about our boy, what he's been going through and listened to my tear-filled rambling, never making us feel like we couldn't be ourselves with our emotions. She explained the process and made sure that we all felt comfortable. She moved as slow or fast as we wanted, leaving the room to give us some alone time to say goodbye. Her words and actions were 100% genuine and put us at ease in a way I never thought would be possible. When it was time, she carefully and SO gently placed him in a bed, covering him and tucking him in as if he were sleeping. Every single step was in our control and we felt as though she truly cared for our boy AND us. I don't think the service is much more (if any more) expensive than going to a vet. While our vet is incredible and we love them, nothing could compare to this experience. We had a sickly kitty, and he took a turn for the worse over the weekend. We are new to Minneapolis, and in the few months we were in town, we weren't organized enough to take the fuzzy guy to a new veterinarian. Plus, not surprisingly, he hated being put in the cat carrier and going to a veterinary office. I'd had friends who'd had their pet euthanized at home, and it seemed like the most peaceful way, (for both us and our pet), to go through this very sad experience. I looked online and found that MNpets specializes in this kind of service. I called them in the morning and was pleased to find that I could make an afternoon appointment. The operator on the phone was sympathetic and was happy to answer any of our questions. At 4pm Dr. Melinda arrived and she met Mr. Pants. She quietly walked us through the steps of the procedure and was patient while we decided when to start the process. Once we began, the whole thing took less than 15 minutes, and Mr. Pants was able calmly fall asleep next to me while I scratched his head. Although sad, it was a very peaceful experience.
