I connected with MK Distinctive Dentistry via my insurance. I chose it because they were able to get me in quickly, worked with Moda and were incredibly close to my house. I called their office to explain to them my tooth that was bothering me. They were able to get me in relatively quickly and examine was what going on. I went in for my biannual cleaning (have gone here about 30 years now) and informed Dr. D'Ambrosia of a painful blocked salivary gland. She suggested using their fotona laser to try to unblock the gland. I don't know who was more gleeful - me getting relief from the pain, or Dr. D'Ambrosia and Libby at witnessing the excellent results! I just had a back crown, put in by Dr. Kaip less than 5 years ago, break in half. I wasn't eating at the time and hadn't been eating anything hard, tough or sticky. I was walking my daughter to the door and it just came apart. There was a significant food trap between that tooth and the one in front, so I am always careful to floss it twice a day. I also use a WaterPik and Sonicare on my teeth. I had him do major work on my teeth and it cost a pretty penny. Having a crown that new, break in half, probably has something to do with the way it was prepared, scanned and installed. Dr. Kaip made plenty of mistakes on my teeth the few years I was with his practice, but this is another. I don't know what will go wrong next with my dental work done by Dr. Kaip. Unfortunately for me and my pocketbook, more will probably be revealed. Then he talked to an endodontist who wasn't working on any of my teeth where Dr. Kaip had made all the mistakes. Also, by then I had switched to Dr. Kaip's partner, who is an amazing dentist. I think his talking about my dental work to anyone else is a violation of the HIPAA. I have been a patient here for now 5+ years. Prior to this I had Kaiser which I went with because of a lower cost of care since I hadn't had a dentist in many years. After being cleared by my previous dental office with no additional care needed I switched to MK. And as it turned out they told me I had multiple fillings that were broken down and should be replaced. Normally I'd find that as a red flag since I had just been told I needed no work by another dental office. But then they showed me and I could easily see cracks and breakdown in fillings I'd had 20 years. I had never had a dentist talk about how dental repairs will break down and not last for your lifetime. They put together a plan based on most critical and also to work with my insurance and budget and got me all set. The hygienists and assistants actually explain things to you. And if you are not doing well at some part of your dental care, they tell you that so they you know and not just gloss over it. They actually try to help you prevent issues from happening. I see Dr D'Ambrosia and she has been great. Actually making sure you're comfortable and doing her best to keep your mouth as healthy as possible. Dr D has also been working with me on my sleep and explained how poor sleep can have an effect on your teeth. The office has a lot of what I'd consider high tech equipment which makes the experience faster and more comfortable. It's extremely nice to go in and if necessary have dental pieces made and placed same day. Overall some of the best dental care I've had and highly recommend this office. read more

This is a great dental office! The staff are super nice and really care about you. The hygienists and assistants are very skilled and professional, while still making sure you are comfortable through the whole cleaning process. My spouse and I have been going here for ~13 years. For my 88 year-old mom I did extensive research on various dentists in Portland: Yelp, Angie's List, nextdoor.com and general recommendations. In-network dentists were definitely less expensive out-of-pocket wise, but the choices were sparse. And I wouldn't recommend any of the ones I visited. For a few, I kept on driving by just looking at the building. A shabby exterior and waiting room says something about the quality inside. Most out-of-network dentists had similar insurance policies and costs. What sets Dr. Kaip's office apart is that the awesome front desk team tries to help you find answers. Tip: If you're using dental rider insurance through a Medicare Advantage plan do not ask, "do you take Medicare?" Almost all dentists will avoid you like a leper. In sum, costs for most out-of-network dentists seem to be in a range, what sets the quality dentists apart from the also-rans is service and cleanliness. I called several times on different work days and at different times of day but I never reached a person, only voicemail. The location is so convenient for me so I pressed on to get an appointment. On Feb 1, I emailed the office to ask for an appointment on and on Feb 6, they asked me to call their office. I responded that calls never go through and the front office person apologized and asked for my number to reach out to me on Feb 11. It is Feb 27th and I have never heard from them and I still have not be able to make contact. Not sure what is going on. read more

I have been going to this Practice for almost 18 years, since day one they have always provided excellent dental care, incredible staff that care about their patients and their craft. Now I have a family of five and we all go here to get dental care. Over the years the practice has only gotten better and better, if that was even possible. I recently switched to this dental office after 3 years with Kaiser. Here is the deal. Front office staff is helpful. As in they actually can explain and try to help figure things out to maximize your insurance benefit. The hygienists actually explain things to you. And if you are not doing well at some part of your dental care, they tell you that so they you know and not just gloss over it. They actually try to help you prevent issues from happening. I've only seen Dr Dow and he has been great. Actually making sure you're comfortable and doing his best to keep your mouth as healthy as possible. Even though I had been faithfully going in every 6 months to kaiser dental, they only did the bare minimum. When I saw Dr Dow he informed me I needed two crowns and two fillings replaced. So you might think since my dental visit 6 months earlier I was told all was well that they were lying to me? Nope he could show me fractures in the fillings and in an old crown with a camera. Very easy to see cracks and fractures that in no way could have been missed. And then proceeded to talk to me about the different types of material and the life of those materials because fillings and crowns aren't going to last me my lifetime most likely. No dentist had ever in my life talked about maintenance of these repairs, as in what happens to these materials in 20+ years. Overall some of the best dental care I've had. read more
