Came here on a Sunday afternoon and got a table right away. Only one other family was eating at the table on the main floor and another family on the lower level (we saw when we went downstairs to use the restrooms). The restaurant has a very old forgotten look to it but surprisingly the food was pretty good! The service was also great. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly and checked up on us often. We got soups for appetizers as well as calamari. The calamari was very dried out, our least favorite dish. The kids chicken tenders and fries were perfect for a toddler, not crazy over fried like they tend to be at other places sometimes. The panini, sandwich, and salad (didn't get to photograph) were very tasty and the portion size was pretty filling. We also sat at a table with a nice view of the waterfall. I've been here a few times and the food is never great. The burgers are ok. The pizza was awful. I tried the famous "slice" steak sandwich, it wasn't sliced, it was cubed. Slices are long and thin, cubes are square chunks of beef. This was cubed steak, not sliced. It was supposed to be hanger steak, but I don't think it was, it was tough and tasteless and no very good. I doubt we'll be going back. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. We had an awful experience and will never be returning. After being ignored for at least 10 minutes, the bartender was rude, cold and dismissive towards me and my friends. We had to ask her to wipe down the bar in front of us because it was filthy and she huffed with an attitude as she wiped it. When given the check, she didn't say anything or acknowledge us once again. She acted like she did not want to be there and in return, we did not want to be there any longer. read more

Just left MJ's in Tinton Falls. I usually never post reviews but I feel like I have to today. Our experience when we first sat down at the upstairs bar was great... well... kinda. I ordered a Bloody Mary, which was a special on the menu, and the bartender said they didn't have any mix.. ok, it happens. We laughed. TVs were all on with sports which why we went there to begin with. Ordered food. It was great!! Then all of a sudden sound on TV's go off and juke box goes on. One patron was controlling it. At first, ok.... We still have time until the ranger game. Now. It's time. And everyone at the bar is complaining about it and the bartender said as long as the juke box is playing she can't turn it off. Kinda weird. But ok.. so now games on and I'm thinking.... He is going to stop, but he was purposely playing music to make us all mad. I went down to the manager and said I didn't think this was fair. Apparently the bartender was told I complained about her. I didn't. I would never. I liked her. She was good and very entertaining. Just didn't know why the juke box was playing when one guy was controlling it and we all wanted to hear the game. Then.... This is when it gets bad... she comes up and tells everyone I complained about her and she's in trouble. And she's not stopping... people are all looking at me... I feel so uncomfortable I have to leave. I probably would have stayed for most of the game spending a lot more money. Even my husband couldn't believe her behavior. Beautiful dining experience by the scenic Tinton waterfall. Good food. Not 4 Michelin stars by any means, but it's good pub food when you're out for a drink. Great place to host events, watch the football game, or take the family for a night out. Swing and a miss! I always pass by this place on the way to the park. It looks cool - backs up to the water and there is a nice view of a waterfall. Nice and peaceful right? Sadly, they are far from peaceful. I sat at the bar on a Sunday afternoon later in the day. The bar isn't huge but was mostly full. There was one bartender who looked tired and overworked. It took me a while to get in a drink order and a while longer to get in a food order. I'll give them credit - they make a good fish and chips but it's pushing $20 which seems too much for a few pieces of fried fish and fries. They have a special on Kane beers on Sunday. The bartender didn't apply the discount and when I asked about it, I caught some attitude. There are plenty of places like this out there. Skip this one. You won't be missing much. read more

Went to bar to eat for first time in years. Bar was disgusting. We asked the bartender to wipe our spot down and she did immediately. Other bartender grabbed a spray bottle of fantastic and clean the entire bar which had crumbs and toothpicks from sandwiches all around the bar. Problem is the spray went on Parmesan shakers and other condiments. This was at 615pm on a Thursday. Place was very slow with only 4 other people at bar. All tvs were tuned to horse racing. I started with the french onion soup which was just okay and the shrimp appetizer which was also just okay. My sister had the personal margherita pie and I got the wedge salad. One of my favorite spots. Great little upstairs bar. This night was not its finest. Arrived there around 6:15 on Monday (9/21), to meet a couple friends. 2 or 3 people at the bar and a couple sitting at a table. Waitress Came around, Told her I wanted a Guinness, She asked me if i wanted to scan the menu, told her yes. She dropped off my can of beer and a beer glass that was pretty dirty. Didn't come back for a long while, so I just grabbed a plastic cup from the bar. She came by and asked if I wanted to order, told her what I wanted, "we don't have any sushi" The other folks came by, sat down, waited a while for her to come back around, she took their drink order, I ordered some edamame. Our food came with no silverware or napkins so then we had to wait quite some time for that. It really didn't leave a great impression for us. Been to this location a couple of times......was disappointed both visits. The food needs to be reinvented here. The chicken quesadillas were glued together with a mass of yellow cheese. Did not like. They use packaged guacamole here too..... Pear salad was good - could have used more dressing. Was unhappy when some bug came flying over and landed on my table. Discarded of it myself, figured it wouldn't do any good to make an issue of it. Although the preparation of the food is lacking the waitress was attentive and a good server. read more

We live local and came to have a quick late lunch. As we walked in there was no one to greet us and we waited for 5 minutes before someone came. We got seated and we ordered and basically the waitress just disappeared. While waiting a while for our food we noticed the windows had hand prints all over them and the table cloths (plastic) were full of dried food. We got our food which was nothing to rave about and have to ask for our waitress to get drinks. After we were done we had to ask someone again for our check. Went in for a lunch. Hostess was very friendly and sat right away. Ordered the grilled cheese burger MD. RARE however the burger was me.well to well at best. Dried out and had no flavor. The best part of the burger is the Texas toast and cheese. Just have yourself a $15 grilled cheese. The sweet potato tats were on point I do prefer my a little bit more crispy but I never said it. Overall the atmosphere is nice but not my first option. read more

I really like MJ's. You could say it's your average bar food but it's really so much more, they have pizza great salads, sandwiches and sushi. MJ's has awesome weekly specials which can't be beat. Staff is great and the bar setting is pretty cool. It's a great local spot. One thing on the menu which I don't like is the Nachos. Stay away, unless you like cheese sauce. They use cheese sauce it just ruins the whole thing dish. The nachos would be awesome if they would just melted the cheese. read more

I can't say enough about this restaurant. The food is incredible, the atmosphere is beautiful, and our three crazy kids fit in just fine. We sat next to a picture window with a view of the river and its little waterfalls, and all five of us thoroughly enjoyed our sandwiches/pizza/burger and mixed drinks and IPAs. The fact that the bill came to under $90 for all of those things plus an appetizer is amazing to me. The quality is so much greater than the prices on the menu. If any of this wasn't enough to bring us back again, the wait staff impressed us tremendously. Our waitress Taylor had just suffered a burn on her hand in the kitchen, and continued to serve after quickly cleaning and wrapping it. Instead of going home right before dinner rush, she took some Advil and kept working. Her coworker Ryan helped her out by helping keep up with drink orders and making sure her customers were happy at their tables. Even though Taylor's hand was hurting, the dinner rush was about to start and it was getting busy, Taylor and Ryan were cheerful, extremely polite and personable, and displayed great work ethic and teamwork. I hd the best pizza from MJ's today. Their crust wasn't burnt and the cheese and sauce ratio was amazing! The staff there was also very nice and were quick to greet me and help me. Horrible horrible waitress. She came with a puss on her face and never cracked a smile. As locals, it was very surprising. She disappeared for over 25 min until we just decided not to order entrees. I can see her yapping behind the bar like an amateur. Very disappointing considering the Middletown location is unlike this. Place seems very clicky also. I could have left and no one would have noticed but I flagged down, yes actually flagged down, another waitress to close the bill. She was sweet and actually agreed with me.
