I bring my bike to have the cassette installed and was installed incorrect so I needed to go back to have it done correctly doing this installation they found out the bottom bracket was loose and having some play on it, so they suggested to be replace so what I did, the bike was left with a noise during the ride so I nodded to go back again to have the linkage bolt tightened, the shop doing road test broke the seatpost not taken responsibility for the damage of the bike, instead the owner of the shop Scott did blame me for them broken the post ,when I bring the bike to them the bike was in one peace, and on top of that I was charge additional $22.50 for a rigid post. Scott ha no peoples skill onceover thinking he is always right on this opportunity he was terrible wrong on his judgment and attitude, I don't recommend to go to MJ's cyclery I felt I was rob by them by their wrong doing this will be the last time I go with them, a very simple repair and installation ending to be total disaster and over charge on labor and parts in a total of $117.85. Please be aware of them Scott has really bad business practice. read more

Been here 3-4 times for three bikes. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and fun to be around. I've had tube replacements, new tires and a new handle bar / brakes replaced for multiple bikes. All these items were done within a day which was very convenient of course. The communication is also well done. They text you when you're bike is ready and are flexible for pick up and drop offs. Definitely our go to bike shop! read more

I can't recommend this bike shop enough based on the customer service alone. I was having trouble with the pedal and shoe cleat on my spin bike at home and decided to swing by and see if they could help figure out what the issue was. The man working (maybe the owner?) took a look and said he could replace the hardware on my shoe to see if that would help. After a few minutes, he did just that and oiled the pedal clip to loosen it up as well. That seemed to do the trick perfectly. When I asked how much I owed, he said it was no cost. I was more than willing to pay for the service or parts but he said it was no problem at all and he was happy to help. I will absolutely be back if I have any more cycling needs in the future and will for sure recommend it to my friends! read more

MJ's is my go-to shop for maintenance and accessories in north park and the surrounding areas. you know how sometimes you go into a shop to ask a question or need a repair for something you thought you could fix on your own, but you've botched because you don't fully know what you're doing, and the mechanic sorta talks down to you and makes you feel stupid? i've never ever gotten that sort of snootiness from anybody here. they're very chill, respectful, and professional, and easy to talk to. they take good care of their clients. example: i needed a shifter cable replaced. i've customized my bike with accessories in a pretty specific color scheme, and when i picked it up, they'd crimped it with a cable end cap in a matching color. it was just the tiniest little thing, but you can tell they put care into their work, and that they know what a bike means to its rider. it's certainly not the largest shop in the area, but it's my first stop when i need accessories, tools, or advice -- and my only stop when i need work done. read more

I went to two other bike shops that same day that didn't want to help, and or needed to make an appointment with them because they're "so busy". I acquired a pretty decent bike but it looks like it has seen better days from sitting outside for a bit - some rust and flat tires. I'm no expert on bike lore/repair so I found this place on Yelp and liked their reviews. Turns out they are right down the road from me - which is awesome. The guy behind the counter (sorry I didn't catch your name!) takes a look at it, fills the tires, and lubes up the chain - yay that was all that was needed for now!!! When I ask how much I owe him - he said - just leave something in the tip jar. Super nice and the best $20 I've spent in a while! He gave some advice on my tires, showed me how to do the quick-release on the front tire, and welcomed me back if anything feels off as I test out my "new" bike! Love this place. I have been to a few different bike shops in San Diego and this one is my favorite. First I should say that my partner and I are recreational bike riders. We have beach cruisers. We are not hard core bikers. But we love to ride our bicycles on the various off road bicycle paths all over this beautiful town. We have had our current bicycles that we purchased at Walmart for about 7 years. They both started making weird noises after we did the Bike the Bay ride (our longest ride ever!) and so we took them both to this shop to get fixed. My bicycle was looked at and fixed within 5 minutes. My partner's bike was diagnosed and needed more serious attention so we left it there and they called us the next day to tell us it was ready. All in we spent less than $30 for the repairs, with tax and labor and parts. I should also mention that it is a big clean very nice shop and they've got all the bells and whistles you could possibly want, whether you're a hard core cyclist or a beach cruiser like us. The guys who work here are so nice and don't treat you differently even if you bought your bike at Walmart. So kind and helpful. read more

I dropped in to MJ's for the first time unexpectedly after knocking up my bike a bit riding that morning. Scott was very friendly when I walked in and I immediately got a good vibe. He took time to help me right away, and fixed my bike (needed a nut that fell off the bolt that held the front fender on) and even tightened my kickstand and gave my bike a 'lil extra love. He refused to take payment from me, which was extremely kind. MJ's is definitely convenient, and they know what they're doing there. I went to MJ's Cyclery in Hillcrest right when it opened it's doors this weekend to get a new bike seat and handle bar grips. This shop is owned by Messy Jessy, that cool chick at all the farmers markets fixing your bikes. I bought a basket for my dog to ride in from her at the Hillcrest farmer's market and wanted to check our her new shop. It's super chill in there, you ride your bike right in and hang out. The best thing about this place and the great people that work there is that they aren't bike snobs. I don't know much about bikes. I bought my beach cruiser from a yard sale and it's one step away from being a huffy from wal-mart. But the dude working on my bike, sorry man, can't remember your name, was real nice and pointed out my hubs were loose (still don't know what hubs are) and he tightened everything up and got my bike feeling rock solid. Jessy picked out a cool saddle that was on sale and my total was WAY under what I'd been quoted at other bike shops in North Park. Whether you are a serious long time bike commuter or just a weekend dog in the basket rider like me, you'll be so happy with all the products and great service you can get from Jessy and her crew at this shop or at any of the farmer's markets. More styles of panniers and commuter biking accessories than I've ever seen in one room. And nothing looks like you need to be sponsored to use it or is lacking in current bike style and with good prices too. They've got new and used bikes and are all-around helpful people. Just what you want out of a neighborhood bike shop. Also, they do bike evaluations and tuneups for the best prices I've found anywhere, same for the merchandise, which is saying a lot for a local bike shop. read more

Unhappy customer. Only reason leaving 5 stars because my attention isn't to hurt this business specially in those difficult times but to leave my feedback hoping they get better for others. I wasn't happy about the hostile attitude nor the service. I ended up paying for a repair that was missed on a previous repair and I didn't mind just to get the job done. Made it seems like it is all my fault and even when I tried to be civil it was too difficult. I just wanted to get the job done right and when I went back complaining about a few things I was blamed that I was late and should have came sooner (also not true). I agreed to pay for the repair even though it wasn't reasonable just needed the job to be done and over. Went to pick up my bike and noticed the cable being cut too short and was told that this is how it should be. Went next door to another bike shop to be told the same thing that the cable was cut too short and they worked out a fix. Side note: The owner seemed very nice and helpful on previous days but that day he seemed like he was having a bad day. read more

I've received great recommendations and feedback from Karissa and often find myself calling if I ever have any questions that may come up throughout the day. The bike shop, although small, is packed with expertise and a great support team. Other things that are not so great (not the shop's fault) are the parking and commute.
