It's home cooked food, calories-not-monitored, but worth every single bite. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but I knew it was going to be good when we saw the parking lot was overflowing into the grass. Luckily there was still an open table inside and we were welcomed by the sweetest staff and our waitress was just as wonderful. So many things looked good on the menu, but I couldn't resist ending this road trip with another taste of chicken fried steak to compare to Mary's (and they can definitely compete because it was AWESOME)! We also tried the chicken fried chicken (delicious), sweet potato casserole (amazing), Mae's potato casserole (tasty), cheese sticks (good), and the hamburger and fries which was obviously delicious enough that my picky daughter almost finished it - which says a LOT! We were very glad that we'd ordered the "smaller portions" for lunch because it meant we could grab a few of the desserts to go to snack on for our final leg of the road trip and keep enjoying at home. We tried the toffee cake (incredible), peanut butter cake (sinfully good), and the coconut pie (very light and creamy)! We also snagged some items to take home with us from their coolers and I can 100% recommend their pork tamales and summer sausage. If you get the chance to stop here, you won't regret it at all! I hope this steakhouse can be sustainable given it is located in the middle of nowhere. Recommended.

This trip we finally made the turn into the parking lot. Walking in, we were greeted immediately. Our greeter was behind a counter that contained fudge and other candies. My wife asked where the fresh made cinnamon rolls were, but unfortunately they were already sold out. We walked around the business and found it to be quite large. It was well stocked on most things but a lot of it was stuff I had no interest in. We did enjoy watching the ladies making taffy. The wife and I both used the bathroom facilities. We found them to be well maintained and very clean. I was hoping that this store would be similar to the Choke Cherry store in Estes Park. Unfortunately it was not. We didn't get lunch as we had already eaten with our daughter. We did hear several people say that the food was excellent. Will I return? Of course as my wife has to have some of their cinnamon rolls:)

I would have one important suggestion to the tamale maker; add more shortening and salt to the masa. The way the masa is made now without the added shortening and salt, the tamales are way to dry and the masa crumbles after heating the tamales. Their "Texas Kitchen " has food to go or dine in. I had not planned on doing breakfast here, but they offer huge portions of well cooked food. I got a breakfast plate which was so generous I could not finish it all. The employees are friendly and helpful, even taking your groceries to your car. They also offer curbside pick-up. I have been in several other smaller United grocery stores which were great, but this one is much larger and offers more. At home we have an excellent grocery store popular in Texas and known by three letters. But if this United grocery store was in our town I would shop here.
