We went for our son's college graduation celebration lunch per his request. Unfortunately the waitress was rude (our son mentioned same waitress was rude to him solo a few weeks ago). They charged me extra for having an allergy, made us wait for a table then laughed when they sat us at a table too small for our group and said that's all we have squeeze in. I left with an allergic reaction to the meal after telling them and being charged for it. The waitress was consistently condescending and rude to the point we left early. Mizuwa recently moved locations, right next door to their old location and boy did they do an amazing job on the decor and space. It is 100x better than the old location and gives off a lot better date night vibe. We were seated immediately and they were quite busy. Drinks were taken almost at the same time and someone checked shortly after about our food order. The food was delicious and came out fast. We felt that they had actually LOWERED their prices by a dollar or two from the last location. If you haven't been to the new location, please plan a date night and head out there and check the hard work they put in it. read more

We walked in expecting a wait, but to our surprise, we were seated right away in the dining area--no waiting at all, which is practically unheard of these days! We started with drinks and an order of edamame, and before we even finished deciding on our sushi, the appetizer was already at our table--talk about speedy service! For our main course, we went all in with the Dynamite Roll, Salmon Avocado Roll, Smoked Salmon Roll, and the Godzilla Roll. Not only were the portions incredibly generous, but the prices were totally reasonable. Every bite was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented--basically, sushi perfection. The atmosphere was calm and inviting, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a nice dinner without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. And let's talk about the bathrooms--super clean, which is always a plus! We ordered so much sushi that we even had leftovers to take home (a rare but delightful problem to have). My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful first visit at Mizuwa. We were welcomed and promptly seated at a nice table. Our waiter quickly took our drink and food orders. My wife ordered their shrimp tempura Hibachi box and I ordered their salmon Hibachi box. We both had their fried rice and their salad with their delicious ginger dressing. Food was decent before I found a press on sparkly nail in my ginger salad. When I informed my server I found a sparkly nail I was then told no one in the establishment working had one that looked like that. To which I then saw the lady refilling my drink with said nails. I ordered from their sushi lunch menu, which consisted of 2 rolls and soup or salad. The sushi rolls were well prepared and delicious. I didn't eat the soup. I gave it to me niece. She enjoyed it! Came here with our staff for a holiday dinner, we were seated promptly and took up the whole habatchi so we didn't have to wait for the other seats to fill up. Pretty typical meal, not as much of a show as other places and the food was good but not as good as I expected compared to other places I frequent. I always enjoy my experience at Mizu. From the hostess to the waitress to the cooks, everything was great. I ordered the chicken and shrimp hibachi which comes with miso soup, ginger salad, meats, veggies, rice, and noodles. The food was great and of course tasted fresh. Also for the price, it's a lot of food. The only issue we had was our wine glass broke very easily, which was slightly surprising, but it was replaced quickly. This is one of my favorite japanese restaurants. The service is always excellent. The California rolls are very good. I got the steak and chicken with noodles and fried rice. We have eaten at Mizu probably 100 times!! We love being able to get decent sushi close to home without driving into Birmingham (to somewhere probably more expensive). The appetizer pan fried potstickers are so yummy, the hibachi show is great and the food is always quality, also the birthday celebration is super fun! It's been a long time since I've sat at a sushi bar and had great sushi. And I'm so glad we picked Mizu. The ambiance is so nice, so Japanese, so I assume, since I've never been to Japan. The music sounds Japanese, and the sushi bar looks Japanese, and the hibachi grills, and the art, etc. We ordered a Dancing Dragon roll, Spicy Yellowtail Roll, Sake, Mackerel Sashimi, and Edemame. The food was all so delicious. While we waited for our food at the sushi bar, the sushi chef gave us a free sample of some mystery sushi that was DELICIOUS. Our edemame arrived late, after we had finished all our other food. The server asked if we still wanted it and I told him absolutely yes. The owner was close by and found out we got our edemame late and displeased. He ordered our server to take it off of our tab and he did, very quickly, before he got the samurai sword treatment. The restaurant was very clean and the staff very polite and professional. I would recommend this place 100% and we will be back! WAY TO GO MIZU! read more

My friend and I end up at Mizu a lot. And while we pretty much get the same thing and eat in the same booth this last time we were there we sat at the sushi bar. The highlight of my night was the stuffed jalapeños that the sushi chef gave us. They were the best things I have ever had there. I hope they're on the menu so I can actually order them the next time we go. All of our other food was as delicious as it usually is. I couldn't eat everything. I tried the salmon for the first time and while I didn't hate it I probably won't order it again. It wasn't a let down or anything. I just didn't care for it personally. The scallops were just as good as they always are though. There were a lot of onions in he vegetables though, and as someone that doesn't really care for mushrooms that was a little bit of a disappointment. All in all it was worth the visit. Good food with good company like usual. There's a reason we always end up there. We love the food and the fact that we don't always have a long wait. read more

This place was such a great discovery! We already want to go back! We came in during lunch hours and the restaurant was fairly busy. It was clean, including the bathroom. We ordered the salmon and steak hibachi and they both came out better than expected! The dishes were wonderfully portioned. We also ordered sushi! Its generic yet descent. It's bland but edible. It's sad yet entertaining. Sometimes expectations and reality get an alignment that is so unexpected, that only surprise prevails. Driving through another obscure, Alabama strip mall, Mizu is a place that most would miss. The faded sign, the dirty windows and a sense of sadness are initial impressions. Upon walking in, the ambiance opens up to be better than its surroundings, yet achieving that does not take much. The steak on hibachi was perhaps the worst I've ever had. Finding a slice of meat so tough has to be a difficult feat. Yet, the shrimp were amazing and very fresh. The rice was over salted. The noodles and salad were standard. The sad expressions on people's faces said it all, as the hibachi chef tried to maintain a smiling impression while the audience looked upon him with heaviness and sadness. The hibachi chef did the standard performance that one would come to expect of a similar establishment. Yet one paralyzing element was how unfairly he divided up the food among the plates, giving some people multiple scoops of rice while others received less than one. Mizu is slightly out of place, slightly saddening and has a few surprises to it. It's not a place to rave about, but it's a place that's simply, well, there. read more

Ordered takeout last night. I had the hibachi combination of scallops and shrimp and it looked amazing coming out of the bag but good lord. Looks can be deceiving. The Shrimp were so grossly over cooked. They were the consistency of over cooked chicken breast. The scallops were literally sliced super thin. Like they took one scallop and sliced in 3 times. So in actuality I had maybe 3 scallops if that. There was no flavor either I had to pour plenty of soy sauce in the food for it to taste like something. Disappointed I throughly enjoyed the soup and salad. Ehhhh not what I paid $22 bucks for though. Jordyn's Shrimp fried rice was delicious but it wasn't mine. I've had two more experiences here since my original review. They were dine in experiences at the hibachi grill and the food and sushi were both fantastic. I will just refrain from ordering to-go meals. read more

The waitress was so sweet and efficient. I wished I could stop there but i must include the whole experience.....The cook was NOT friendly at all. My husband and I stopped in to eat here one night. Hibachi places are some of our fav places to go! This is by far the worst Japanese steakhouse we have ever had. And we have had several in different states! So to start out we ordered waters. And my husband did get a mixed drink. He said the drink wasn't bad. I am also an avid sushi lover. Not knowing the sushi quality here, I took the safe route and just ordered a Crunchy Shrimp Roll. It's really hard to mess that up. It was the most bland sushi I have ever had. Literally no flavor and barely any Eel sauce, which was sweet and the only thing keeping me eating the roll. Next we were served our ginger salads and soup. The plain broth soup was honestly the best thing I had there, and still not the best I've ever had. The ginger salad dressing was okay, but lettuce was in larger chunks and there wasn't enough dressing. For the hibachi, I ordered steak and my husband ordered chicken. Both meals were extremely bland and just literally no flavor. My steak was cooked appropriately though but just didn't want to eat due to the taste. The fried rice was bland as well, not even the yum yum sauce helped it. Our hibachi chef that cooked in front of us wasn't pleasant at all. Never offered refills on our sauce containers and never offered the ginger dressing for the steak, I had to ask. He wasn't really interested in us and just kept looking around the restaurant never making eye contact with us. He did the normal volcano trick where you stack the onion, but that's really all he did show wise. This was definitely our worst hibachi experience, well as sushi experience. My friend and I decided to go here for dinner. It was my first time here. I ordered the hibachi chicken and my friend ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box. The ginger salad dressing was ok. It seemed watered down a bit. I liked the clear soup. It had good flavor. My meal was good overall. I didn't really care for the noodles but the rice was fine. me and my mom went for lunch I ordered the two sushi lunch special which was 11 pieces of sushi. I ate 4 because it wasn't very good and when I told the server Matt who was very good 5 stars to him he told us the manager was willing to swap one roll out for another. I was already full on the appetizer we had so I just asked for a cup of soup. when it was time to pay the bill they still had my 13 dollar meal that I didnt eat on there. I asked to speak to a manager and some woman who wasn't the manager approached us. I told her I only at 3-4 pieces and she took the bill and came back with a 40 percent discount off. that's 5 off my original price. I was still paying 8 dollars for sushi I didnt eat. I left the amount for my soup and the rest of the bill but I did not leave the money for my sushi. then the manager messaged me through the servers snap chat telling us we are not welcome until we pay the rest of the bill. the reason for this review is that the management team only cared about us until we were short on the bill. didn't matter we were upset about the food not being good. they never spoke to us or apologized and it was extremely rude but after two scenarios where the manager should have come spoken to us they didn't and only offered 5 dollars off. I had only eat about $3.50 worth of my meal. server was great management was rude and inconsiderate. read more

We loved the flavors, the server, the atmosphere. The hostess gave us an attitude for coming with a group of 10 for Hibachi and the ticket didn't properly explain that they already included a 20% tip so they got double the tip so READ it and ask questions.... and don't let the hostess girl get snotty with you because the food is AMAZING! I went with a group of 6 for Mother's Day. We arrived at about 4:30 and were seated right away even though the place was quite busy. We all got hibachi ( mostly chicken but one salmon also). Everyone enjoyed the food. I also had a mixed drink (Candy Crush). It was good but very strong. Overall I liked this place but I did think they could do a better job cleaning the counters/tables. They appear to be a black granite and instead of being sparkly clean you could see the dried wipe marks from the last time it was wiped. Another person in my party thought the grills didn't look super clean but I did not notice that. read more
