Street Chef Shaw has had a local food truck for awhile, and recently opened a brick and mortar takeout location on Plainfield. Nate and I stopped by and ordered a birria burrito, quesadilla, and some chips and dips. The menu also includes tacos, birria ramen, kachumbari, chappatis, and a coconut curry pilau bowl. It's a fusion of East African and Latin American food, which is really cool and very unique for the city. Protein options include chicken tinga, pulled pork, mishaki beef, birria (roasted goat), and cactus red pepper hash for a vegetarian/vegan option. Our food was ready quickly and we were on our way home. We definitely could have split one item as they were both generous portions. The burrito was stuffed with beans, pork, rice, cheese, and cabbage. The tortilla is dipped in birria consomme and griddled, giving it a birria taco vibe. The quesadilla was delicious, with plenty of melty cheese and chicken. I think the star of the show for me were the chips and queso - sooo good! The chips are house made and have a unique and tasty seasoning sort of like a Dorito but better. They were super crunchy and the queso was smooth and really cheesy. The bag was chock full of chips that lasted us a couple of days. They got even better the next day, I think. There is no indoor seating at all at Mizizi, which means "roots" in Swahili, but it looks like there will be some outdoor seating in warmer months. I'm so excited to have this option in the area and look forward to visiting again soon!

Pork birria nachos, "experimental" jerk chicken tacos, and goat quesadilla. Everything was superb. I loved the sweet mango and bit of spice on the jerk chicken tacos, although I do prefer their corn tortillas over these plantains. I already loved the birria tortillas chips, so there was no question about how delicious the nachos were gonna be. And I found my new favorite dish in the quesadillas! I haven't tried goat before but it was beautifully seasoned and tender. I think Mizizi is solidly my second favorite restaurant in Grand Rapids (only behind Black Napkin, of course). If you haven't been here before, you really, really need to go!

I like the concept of mixing two cultures together. I enjoy food separately from both, so this was unique. I love my mother's Pilau. I still do. This was just a twist of flavors that helps share the cultures in a dynamic way. Service was great and quick. The cashier was really amazing and made sure we had our order correct, since it was our first time. Thank Lilly. It was awesome Chef Shaw was able to step out to say hello, and we got to meet him. My wife has been wanting to try this place for a year, so we got to check off that bucket. We will be back to try the other infusion.

The place take out only. But very inviting. First time visiting and was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the Birria pork nachos, Birria Buritto, chicken quesadilla, coconut curry rice and chips and salsa. Everything was flavorful and great tasting! Ingredients were fresh and Chef Shaw definitely knows what he is doing. My favorite dish was a toss up between the nachos and quesadilla I couldn't choose. I'm not a big fan of beans in the buritto but it was still great as well. The chips are what threw me for a delightful curve, between the seasoning and the salsa they are a must!

I love the Tinga quesadilla and the chapapi wrap. The chips n queso is amazing also. Only outdoor seating.

The late night menu is awesome, which is hard to come by in GR. And the staff was great. We will be back!

Chef Shaw may be new around these parts but I'm certain his current iteration of Afro Fusion cuisine is only the beginning.

Honestly it was an incredible location for a space and had such a great vibe inside. My best friend is a regular at the restaurant and we're hoping to see them more in smaller capacities like when we saw them at the Fulton St. Market. Overall, the food was really good. I like the concept of fast-casual dining without the need to have a server. I think it allows things to feel more casual and allowed for me to be more willing to eat there (obviously in other circumstances lol). I got the horchata hot cakes with some of the papas with ghost sauce. I thought the pancakes were GREAT and more than worth it for the price. I was surprised how large and fluffy they were. The flavor was great without being too sweet and none of the flavors being too overpowering. My friends got the breakfast sandwiches and chaichata drinks and absolutely loved them. My friend loved her drink so much she got two within the span of us eating. I know it's a hard time for local businesses but I'm hoping there are more ways we can still see them around.

Different from the last time I was here but we were told to find a seat upon entering and that when we were ready, we could order our food at the counter. I looked over their menu and found lots of good breakfast taco options, the breakfast burrito I have heard is great, but what really caught my attention was the biscuits and gravy. I was feeling quite ravenous this morning and got the full order for $11 and a side of bacon. They had a table close to the entrance with extra menus, clean cups, water jugs, hot sauces, silverware and napkins. Seemed like a help-yourself vibe which I grabbed everything we would need for our meal. Our food was brought to us rather quickly and my bf ordered the breakfast bowl with scrambled eggs and sausage. He told me it tasted so good and he loved that he could make his own tacos with his food. He let me try one of the hashbrown rounds and it was perfectly crispy! My biscuits and gravy were phenomenal. The biscuits were so fresh and the gravy had a really nice and comforting flavor to it. You could get chorizo and mushrooms in your gravy but i went with a traditional sausage for my protein. My bacon on the side came in a tiny dish but I ate all four pieces haha. Once we finished, there were some bus bins under the same table with the silverware, we placed all our dirty dishes there and cleaned up after ourselves before leaving. I honestly felt so content leaving there and can't wait to return. I really appreciate the ambiance in there with the beautiful plant life, the lights on the ceiling, and cool decor in general. The staff was also SO NICE! Wins everywhere. I also noticed people coming in for takeout which is good to know in case I don't feel like dining in some morning. Please check this place out sometime if you're in the mood for some really good breakfast that doesn't break your bank account.

Service was quick, efficient, and everything came out to order. The food was good. We tried a protein bowl, a couple tacos, and a three buds dip trio. The Street Corn dip is amazing, but neither of us were fans of the dirty queso. There was a single piece of chicken in it, which was huge, just not super scoopable! Tacos were delicious. It's already summer at Condado, which also means $6 frozen margs! Of course, I had to indulge and the prickly pear lavender single-handedly will get me back to Condado all summer. My fiancé was eager to watch the Stanley Cup playoffs, so we were delighted to see that there were screens playing popular events and a couple shows to enjoy over dinner. This is a great mix between your typical bar & (non-authentic but tasty) Mexican cuisine.

We went for a family dinner on a Sunday with a group of seven, including two kids, and had a great experience from start to finish. Kids eat free on Sundays, which was such a nice surprise, and the kids' menu is generous with great options--an entrée, a side, and a drink. My husband and I also enjoyed flight night, which was a lot of fun. I tried the strawberry, prickly pear lavender, and harvest pear margaritas. They were all very good--while the prickly pear lavender sounded better than it tasted for me personally, it was still enjoyable. One of my favorite things about Condado is the customization. Their signature creations are great, but being able to build a taco exactly how I want it is my favorite part. And I could honestly live off their corn salsa--it's so good and always a must-have! The restaurant was super clean and not very busy when we visited, so we were seated right away and our food came out quickly. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, especially with our energetic little ones. It was also the first time our parents had eaten at Condado, and they loved it--they're already talking about going back to try more tacos and dips. We had such a great experience and will definitely be back. Highly recommend this location!
