MIX seems like such a wonderful shop for gardeners... and yet, they let me down big time. I ordered some garden dirt, several yards of it, to top off my existing soil. It turned out to be very poor dirt filled with debris. I also bought a variety of herb seeds for a kitchen garden. Even with lots of care nothing grew except the parsley. No dill. No rosemary, no nothing! I'm very disappointed. read more

MIX has awesome plant starts! My tomatoes and eggplant are especially enjoyable at this time of the year. I can always count on Mix to deliver interesting and different starts - unlike the big box stores that have generic garden plants for the masses. I was bitching about them dumping rock on my truck a couple years back, but I've had loads of rock and sand since then and they have been careful to load the material. They have half-yard and one yard buckets to do the loading. The half-yard bucket will load my truck without dumping material where it isn't supposed to go. So, good for Mix! read more

Mix is a treasure. The staff is very knowledgeable & patient. We've literally gotten tons of material from them: mix garden mix, mix garden soil, pea gravel, drain rock - and there's a little variability as you'd expect, but the load have been fair. We love their plant starts. I really like that they grow most of their plant starts, especially their veggies. And they are a local business. read more

Amazing selection of Organic Veggie Starts for all Seasons! I went there with a short list... and left with a ton of starts. I grew things I would not have otherwise done so. I appreciate the wide variety and experienced staff. The aesthetics are like no other nursery. Easy access of the 101 North side of Healdsburg. I am doing a Fall planting and am building my gardening prowess due to the great access to great starters. I tried some of the European Seed Packs... not too much luck as I need to improve my skill set. I recommend them to every one I know going to Lake County. read more

I have used this group to obtain rock and compose on 3 occasions over several years..the first delivery was compost..It was too hot with nitrogen and killed all plants..the second delivery was rock..they brought the wrong rock, dumped it and drove off fast..the third delivery was again rock and they delivered the rock with about 50% dirt..every time I go there there is a different group of hippies working there..the drivers change all the time..Very few people are ever there..I will never use this place again.. read more

This is a classy joint, unlike any other nursery or garden store I have ever been in. Gone are the cluttered shelves of supplies and tools, the stuffed-to-overflowing spinning racks of seeds. In their place is a carefully curated selection of high-end garden stuff. I use the word "curated" advisedly, because this place seems more like a gallery than a garden store. Though the selection is limited, the quality is impeccable. If you want to shop for your garden while surrounded by high-end rural chic, Mix Garden is the place to go. I kept waiting for someone to offer me a glass of chardonnay, but had to satisfy myself with a $4 packet of Italian bean seeds. read more

I'm a huge fan of Mix Garden. They always have fresh, seasonal vegetables and the interior space is really beautiful. At Mix, it feels cool because it's not a mediocre, overpriced retail joint like you find throughout much of Healdsburg. Instead, it's a little bit outside of town--perfect for locals and people who are really into supporting local farmers on a day-to-day basis. I'd definitely recommend checking out Mix! read more

Great place for some of the best vegetable starts of heirloom varieties that I know. Large selection grown by them for the planting season. The plants are always large and vigorous They also are a stocking dealer for a Italian seed company for seeds you don't normally see here. The staff are friendly and courteous. They also offer a good selection of landscape materials from aggregate and bark to several different types of soil mixes and they offer delivery service also. I would give them 5 stars but the last batch of garden mix I bought had too much shredded plastic mixed in and I don't really want this in my raised beds, I suspect their supplier is a recycler like the Sonoma County dump that gets a lot of plastic bags etc. in the household waste. I hope they change suppliers or I will change who I get my soil mixes from. read more
