The frame and woodwork on these chairs was in very good condition, but the upholstery was a tapestry look that was worn and had tears. I wanted these chairs to be renewed but without destroying their late 1800s character. I opted for a green velvet. I was confident that Mary would take good care of these chairs when she saw them and got excited about the restoration. These chairs turned out beautiful - Mary restored the springs, batting and straps to preserve the firm but comfortable seating. The velvet and piping work are beautiful. This was our first engagement with Mary and we could not be more pleased. We have other pieces that we will be bringing to Mary for restoration.

He showed up as scheduled a couple of days later and spent about two hours repairing the damage. This included nearly perfectly matching the complex color of the top. The match was very good initially but Donnie spent the time to perfect the match. Repairs of this type are not inexpensive but quality is worth the cost. We are VERY satisfied.

He charged $400 for this. I was shocked. Foam will compress after time and I assumed he would use a better material. I called him to discuss, and he said he was sorry I felt this way. He thought $400 was a good price. A lot of other people said he charged a fair amount. Not even close. For 1 hour's work and a piece of foam.

I ignored the iffy/negative reviews on their own website because waiting periods for other upholsterers in the Lancaster area were so long, up to a year, and Schlager's said they could do our chairs inside of a month or two. However, the upholstering was done incorrectly, the fabric was glue gunned to the chair backs and started coming undone within weeks. We had to buy the fabric again and have another upholsterer entirely redo the chairs, which is when we found out that they had cracked the frame of one of the chairs, and they hadn't even had the right side of the fabric showing -- they had the underside of the fabric on the outside -- a huge difference. Our other upholsterer was very upset by the job they did -- and we had to pay twice. Like other reviewers, we also found it very difficult to communicate with them, but in any case, don't do it. Find another firm.

Tim turned around the job in 2 or 3 days. I brought the chairs and picked out fabric, and then I think he got it and finished the job by the end of the next day. It was nice not to be without dining room chairs for too long, because they really are used in our house. Tim had plenty of fabric choices and explained the lingo that accompanied every sample so I could find something that would wear well. I highly recommend his work.
