We, as a family, always loved Mitchell's. Good food at a great price. Always friendly and fast service. We have gone here for years! However, that will change. I took my kids out to eat and we all wanted Mitchell's. Food and service were great as usual. Went to pay and as we went to leave a couple was standing behind us waiting to pay and there they had a dog on a leash. Not a service dog mind you. I little wire haired thing. We were not happy at all! I don't go out to eat with other people's dogs! I don't want dog hair in my food! We did not find any but if they allow more and more dogs in you can bet there will be dog hair all over. It is gross and not hygienic! I pay to enjoy a clean fresh cooked meal. It to sit down with a strangers dog. We probably will not return. That is a bummer because this was our family's favorite place to eat. read more

Service was excellent. Friendly staff here is great. Prices are good too. My issue was with the food itself. I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast, which included scrambled, a biscuit and hashbrowns. The cf steak wasn't completely cooked inside and the portion of scrambled was very tiny. There was little to no gravy with the order and the hasbrowns certainly weren't fully cooked either. The portion size of the food/meal was very disappointing too. Told the server about my issues with the food and she wanted to replace my order but when she told me how long it would be to replace my order, i told her to forget it and I gave her a tip paid for my underwhelming, bad meal and I left. I recently stopped by to grab some lunch with my family here and the food nothing special, basic, boring and depressing. I thought nothing of it, until I got home. I noticed my stomach was hurting, and minute by minute I was agonizing in pain. Thankfully, my wife Sharon called the ambulance and we later found out I had got food poisoning. I can't believe how many stars this place has. Cheap food, terrible service. I had sausage and eggs with sourdough toast, and my husband ordered chicken fried steak and eggs with hash browns and sourdough toast. The eggs were okay. Salt and pepper always fixes eggs. The hash browns were undercooked. The cooks didn't even try to pretend to brown them. The toast had a touch of butter in the center of each slice. The waitress didn't even come back to see how everything was so that I could ask for more butter. She was too busy talking to some guy who was sitting at the counter. The gravy was watery and bland, and the steak was some kind of chewy pressed meat. This place is amazing. Don't miss it if you're passing through Idaho Falls. It's stuck in a fantastic time warp, and a local told me once that they remodeled in the past 10 or so years and put it back exactly the way it was. If you're on US 20 in Idaho slow down near Idaho Falls and take Exit 310.The restaurant is part of what is currently KJ's Travel Center and it's definitely worth stopping!!! Mitchell's has apparently been around for years. Our waitress told us about coming there as a kid with her dad as well as the multiple ownership changes in the adjoining truck stop, which never affected the quality of food and service at the restaurant. Anything you might consider lacking in modern decor is immediately forgotten once you take your first bite of food, if not sooner. The place is clean and the seating is comfortable. The staff (of both the restaurant and travel center) and patrons are friendly, helpful, and great for people watching (as noted by another reviewer, Aimee C.). The food is beyond amazing and all homemade! We had bowls of vegetable beef soup with lots of chunky veggies and tender beef. Seasoned perfectly. Yeast rolls nearly bigger than your head came with it. We added an order of fries because 1)we were in Idaho so we figured the ingredients must be fresh and 2) another reviewer (quoting Aimee C. again) said they "might be worth the drive from Salt Lake City." These fries are cut fresh every day and cooked to perfection (except we prefer a touch more salt) and served with fry sauce, which we were told is "an Idaho thing". It tasted great. If veggie soup isn't your thing, don't worry. There are enough options/variety on the menu to satisfy almost any craving, from comfort food to salads or even nachos. Prices are very affordable especially when you see the portions and taste the quality. Servers are friendly and helpful. Don't forget to look around the store before you leave. There's souvenir-type items, sodas, snacks (not that you'll want them after your meal), etc. The flavored popcorn (which is also colored according to flavor) caught our attention. We bought two flavors to bring back and share. The caramel apple (green and caramel colors) wasn't bad, but the huckleberry cheesecake (purple and cream colors) was outrageously good! I've eaten here a couple of times, and it's always seemed to miss the mark. One of my friends used to work there, and quit recently because he was highly disturbed by the lack of sanitation. The managers and the other cooks "wash" their hands in the fry bucket, the water bucket where the hand-cut fries are kept, and I have personally seen waitresses leaving the bathroom and returning to work without even washing their hands. The kitchen is filthy too, I'm amazed they even pass their health inspections!! Despite the many good reviews about the food, steer clear of this place. Not bad at all! We picked this place specifically because we were towing a 42' trailer, its easy in and out from the freeway and has LOTS of RV/big rig parking!! The food arrived fast, and was tasty. After a long morning on the road it was exactly what we needed to get us home. The waitress was nice, and our food came out piping hot and quick.
