So when something actually works and works well, I take note. Stephen at Scruffy City Movers was responsive from the first contact, which matters more than it sounds, it was Memorial Day weekend. We had a tight coordination window with a U-Haul U-Box delivery, the kind of logistics where one late call unravels everything downstream. He didn't just show up. He showed up calibrated. The crew unloaded the container, split the delivery between our apartment and the storage unit at the complex, and then without being asked reorganized the storage unit so everything actually fit. That last part is what I'll remember. Nobody told them to do it. They just saw a problem and solved it, which meant we didn't have to upgrade to a larger unit. That's not customer service as a script. That's competence expressed as care, the rarest combination in any service business. Five stars. And I don't give those away.

When I tried to book, the woman I spoke to was extremely rude--like shockingly rude for someone in customer service. It completely turned me off from using them again. It's frustrating because this used to be a company I trusted, but based on my recent experiences, I'll be looking elsewhere next time.

We got a call that my mom's assisted living facility was shutting down & (for personal reasons) I had a WEEK to find her a new place AND get her moved in! Some said it couldn't be done -- and if I hadn't had Joann & her team, I probably wouldn't have made my deadline. (I got 3 bids & she was lowest AND available when we needed her.) Two lovely ladies showed up & QUICKLY packed up EVERYTHING (carefully!). Then two nice guys showed up and loaded all up & got it to her new home. THEN THREE lovely ladies showed up to UNPACK!? I wasn't expecting that -- but WOW!! What a difference it made! They not only unpacked the items, they helped me sort & place them in a good place so when she walked in, it was already "like home"! From start to finish, I could tell that this is more than a job or Joann & her team. They were SO easy to work with! When the trucks arrived and even though we had been packing for a week, solid the two of us, and not be able to complete everything. I was just about in tears! Rats came in like power, lifting angels and packed up everything we had not been able to finish and moved it all with such care. I have never seen movers who were so respectful, careful, and trustworthy all while working with speed and a friendly banter. I will always be grateful for the help. He even disclosed my personal information regarding where I was moving to the neighbors. Not knowing if there was a reason or not of why I didn't tell them myself. And there was definitely a reason. He showed up with a 17 year old young man and an 18 year old young lady who obviously didn't have much if any experience at all in being a professional mover.
