I wanted to share my outstanding experience with Acorn Financial Services. From our very first…read moremeeting almost two decades ago, it was evident that their expertise and dedication to tailored financial planning and advisory services is unparalleled. It has been a game-changer as they became a trusted partner in our financial journey, holistically understanding our family's financial objectives, concerns, and unique circumstances while crafting our personalized plan empowering us to make informed decisions. The firm's clear and transparent communication and patience were invaluable as they proactively and reactively responded to our situation, questions and concerns. Their expertise, knowledge and strategic guidance (taxes included) have enhanced our financial outlook and long-term aspirations for my wife and I, as well as our children. This allowed us to focus on other aspects of our lives, whether working to advance our career or spending more time with our family. Looking back at the nearly 20 years as a client, the gift of time to spend with our family, friends, career and other personal endeavors was one of the most valuable and unexpected benefits as we began the journey with them. I highly recommend Acorn Financial Services to anyone in search of a trustworthy, knowledgeable, and client-focused financial advisor and planner. I have introduced close to 30 close friends and family members as clients over the years, all with similar positive experiences.

I may have just selected a lazy account manager but he doesnt hold regular status update meetings…read moreand he is late and doesnt stay on task when he is in the meetings so my time is wasted. He cannot explain his investment strategy. I only notice Activity on my account around when I send emails inquiring about the status of my account which triigers his memory that I am a client. There are too many websites needed to manage my money since one is needed to budget, one is needed to see investments, and a third for something else. There is not one for everything. I am paying investments fees quarterly to lose money while my friends made money during the same timeframe so he cant blame the market. Go somewhere else.

Ask a friend. Google something. Just don't invest anything here. There are many better quality…read moreand lower cost options. They made it inappropriately difficult to withdraw my own funds. They charged high fees including a final fee to close my account as I spent several hours terminating my captivity. In my personal experience, Merrill Lynch actively and inappropriately worked to discourage my withdrawal of my funds from their investment account. Merrill Lynch requires a Medallion Signature for withdrawal transfers exceeding $20,000. After speaking with their phone support to confirm beforehand that they would provide a Medallion Signature, I visited a branch where they told me that they do not provide Medallion Signatures for withdrawals. Okay. Merrill Lynch requires something of their withdrawing account holders that they do not provide to their own account holders. They would gladly provide a Medallion Signature if I was a new customer transferring funds into one of their accounts. I ended up taking a full withdrawal in a complicated risky indirect IRA rollover among several more pitches and dire tax-danger-scary warnings from account retention. Those warnings may be true, but their policies forced me to take that risk. Frankly, I would rather take the hit on taxes and penalties rather than let them keep my funds hostage. Despite the fund fees they charged for over a decade (including inexperienced me buying the stupid Class B shares they were selling) I was charged $50 to close my account. Their policies only benefit themselves. This disorganized mess made me miss several hours of work across two days. Don't invest here. You will pay higher fees here than elsewhere. You will make less money in your investment accounts. You will have less money when you retire. You will have a more difficult time accessing your own money. You will be misled by support people only to be denied by policies that work only in their self interest.

I've had a Merrill Lynch account since I was a kid and only had to move it to the Reston branch…read morewhen I moved to the area 2 years ago. The "financial advisors" I was assigned seemed less knowledgeable than I am (which, I didn't think you could get any less educated) and I never felt comfortable accepting their recommendations since they seemed like they were selling me products that reap them the best commission. Turns out my Spidey-sense was correct.... Without my knowledge, they transferred my accounts to a "discount" brokerage house and SOLD PART OF MY PORTFOLIO WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE. Additionally, they charged me $250 in fees because my portfolio was now spread into an additional account because of their screw up. Needless to say, once I called up to ask what the hell they were doing, and to inform them that they BROKE THE LAW by making unauthorized trades, they responded by telling me their computer malfunctioning and that they'd call me back. I'm still waiting for their call. I'm still waiting for a call from anyone from their office. My accounts are being investigated by another Merrill Lynch office and fixed. I hope they've fired the morons that were involved with this "mistake". If you're making mistakes with a basic account transfer, I wonder what they'd do with larger trade or more difficult task. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY unless you want to have them completely rob you and mismanage your funds. In the meantime, I'll be filing my complaint with Merrill Lynch corporate and the SEC. This office should be shut down.
