It's been over 15 years since I first started seeing Dr. Misuk Kim, but I've never had an experience like this before, and I honestly don't know how to process it. Three years ago, Dr. Kim personally performed a Pap smear test, but the test couldn't be processed because there wasn't enough cell collection. I returned today -- three years later -- for a follow-up. As always, I arrived 20 minutes early and was waiting in the reception area. When Dr. Kim came out, I greeted her, but she looked noticeably displeased and asked why I was there. I explained that I had an appointment and was waiting. From that moment, she began reprimanding me for arriving too early, saying she was in the middle of seeing another patient and that having the next patient waiting in the reception area was something she hated the most. She then told me to go outside and wait until she called me by phone. I had never heard anything like that before. There was no notice anywhere stating that patients are not allowed to wait in the reception area if another patient is being seen. She had never mentioned such a policy in advance either. And, of course, I was simply doing what I have always done -- arriving 20 minutes early and waiting quietly. My husband was with me, and we both felt awkward and almost as if we had been kicked out. I don't know when this policy started, but she justified it by saying it was to protect the privacy of the patient she was currently seeing. I have never encountered anything like this at any other doctor's office. And this particular office is not even an open space where privacy would be at risk. For me, this was an altogether unprecedented and profoundly disconcerting experience. If such a protocol is indeed her preference, then surely the appropriate course would be to communicate these expectations clearly and courteously before the appointment -- rather than delivering reprimands that leave patients feeling unwelcome and diminished. A medical environment should be a place of comfort and care, not one where patients are made to feel as though they have transgressed. Regardless of whatever personal or professional pressures she may be facing, her manner toward patients remains unacceptable. If she finds herself unable to approach her practice with the attentiveness and compassion it requires, perhaps it would be wise to step back temporarily -- or to consider whether this work still aligns with her capacity to serve patients with dignity. Dr. Kim is knowledgeable, experienced, caring and to the point. I think she is a very good gynecologist. She is clear with her explanations, and answers to my questions. I really like Dr. Kim. I love Dr. Kim! She delivered my two children and she is the best. She takes care of you throughout your pregnancy and she makes you feel a part of the family. Her bedside manner is unmatched. We are from two different cultures but she has mom energy that just helps you drop your walls. She has gotten very in demand and it is hard to book appointments at her office. . My sister-in-law went to her for the first checkup for pregnancy very excited after waiting for baby for many years. This doctor told her and my brother not to be too happy because the baby might not survive due to the old age of the mother. They got furious at her and switched to a different doctor. Also my friend was recommended for a hysterectomy by this doctor for a polyp and possible fibroids/ endometriosis. I don't trust her at all. read more

Dr. Kim is a great! She is friendly and knowledgeable but her staff is not! They are very disorganized and unpleasant to work with. There is way to many people working there with no efficiency. They have called to change almost every single one of my appointments throughout my pregnancy. There were many time when I sat there and just waited and waited for them to take me back before they tell me that the Dr. is not in the office and will have to reschedule me. Dr. Kim is the only OB/GYN that does a sonogram at every visit. She is totally dedicated to the patients she serves. Dr. Kim promotes and teaches natural family planning. She does not prescribe artificial birth control because of the nasty side effects. read more

Dr Kim was my OB for the pregnancy and delivery of my first child. She did a fantastic job. She doesn't come with some of the bells and whistles other OBs do. Her office is in a quiet corner of Annandale, but is a very clean and efficiently run office. Dr. Kim never wastes your time in prenatal visits but gets right to the point on the issues that matter. She has great bedside manners and is playful and funny. She is not alarmist, but takes her time to look into any issues you may have. During two points in my pregnancy, I called her at 10 pm because of serious pains I felt, and in both instances, Dr. Kim took time to discuss my issue with me and recommend a solution. She does not leave work in the office, she genuinely cares about her patients. The best thing about Dr. Kim is that she will be at your side on your big day - delivery day. She is not part of a group practice, so I didn't have to worry about a stranger delivering my baby. During my labor, she was very calm and tried to get me to relax. I told her I did not want an epidural, or a C-section, and she agreed to my wishes, never once pressuring me to use either. She was skilled and kept it all natural during the labor and delivery, and I felt reassured knowing I had an OB who was so experienced at my side. The only thing I did not like very much was the frequent ultrasounds Dr. Kim does. When I told her I'd rather not do ultrasounds during some visits, she was just fine with that. I heard ultrasounds are not necessarily good for the baby so I wanted to decrease the number I had done. Overall, she is fantastic and if I have a second child, I will certainly go to Dr. Kim again. read more

I first saw Dr. Kim when I was 5 weeks pregnant. She was just so warm and kind. At 20 weeks pregnant Dr. Kim gave me the surprise of my life when she told me I was having twins. It was such a stressful appointment. I had my 5 year old son there and i just found out the one baby I was planning for was now two. Dr.Kim quickly told me not to cry and that everything will be alright. Throughout my whole pregnancy Dr. Kim made sure that me and my twins remained safe and healthy. When I delivered at 36 weeks I knew that I was in the best possible hands. Even when I was strapped to a bed in the O.R and my boyfriend had left with the twins I knew I had nothing to worry about cause she would keep me safe and talk me through everything I needed to know. Dr. Kim is absolutely wonderful. I began seeing her with my third pregnancy and when that ended in miscarriage, she was so good to me. She truly cared, did what was in my best interest and helped me through a difficult time. When I got pregnant again, Dr. Kim was the best through all of my prenatal appointments. I went into labor a couple of weeks early and she spent the night at the hospital checking on me and monitoring everything until my c-section in the morning. This doctor has been awesome to me everytime I had my appointments. I had found out I had a brain tumor causing disruptions in my hormones. This doctor was with me from the time I found out, whether it was to be supportive or to make sure I would get back to good health. I would recommend her to anyone and everyone. She is extremely kind and generous. She is demanding sometimes but only for the person's benefit. She is responds back to questions as soon as possible. And the staff is great. They are very helpful and kind. In consideration to this I have already recommended 20 people and they have all had great service. They were all very pleased with the way their appointments went. She's the best OB, I believe. She's very professional, friendly, and credible. We were in a fairly special case, but Dr. Kim did a great job. Our baby born in this April is now healthily growing. Most importantly, I feel that she is enjoying her job very much. She thinks our concerns as if they are hers. One of the saddest thing to me is that I have to leave this area soon, so I cannot visit here after moving. But if I have a chance, I will definitely choose Dr. Kim for my next baby. read more
