So recently, when I had a piece of jewellery needing to be resized I was thankful for my sister's recommendation that I take my ring to Delross Design. Located within the Everton Park Shopping Complex, the store itself doesn't look like much but didn't your Mother ever teach you not to judge a book by its cover? There are a few pieces of jewellery for sale but most of the action seems to happen in their on-site workshop. The service I received was outstanding. My ring was resized and delivered back on the date they said they would and I personally consider the price to have been quite reasonable given the work entailed. I'll happily be returning for any ongoing care, cleaning or resizing I might need in the future.

Have you ever had a pair of shoes that you just cannot part with? I have. They were a beautiful…read morepair of cream quilted ballet flats with a black toe. I loved them because not only were they hella comfortable, but each time I wore them I felt a little Audrey Hepburn-esque. They made me feel polished, sophisticated and casually chic. They had a Chanel look to them without the price tag. I even went through a phase of not wearing them for fear of ruining them, but that's a story for another review. Well, sure enough as a pair of well worn shoes do, the sole gave up the ghost but I wasn't ready to give up on them yet. That's when I sent them into the shoe ER that is Hallelujah at the bottom of Broadway on the Mall (head towards the back of the food court to find this sole saver!). Within days my shoes were back to their prime and lasted for another 18 months before I finally had to say goodbye. All in all the repair set me back maybe $20 or $30 which compared to what I paid for them was a pittance. The guys at Hallelujah have also saved a handbag that for sentimental reasons (it was a gift from my oldest and dearest friend) I couldn't accept was gone for good. They repaired the leather and when they say invisible stitching they mean it. There was no telling on a glance that this well loved handbag had had a few cosmetic touch-ups. For reliable, quality and affordable service I'll always head to Hallelujah!

And Brandon Shoe Repairs also do as they say, and fix shoes, and they do it well. I've taken two pairs of my boyfriend's shoes in there to be mended, one made of suede and the other of leather. Not only were they resoled but they also had the leather repaired in areas. Each job was carefully finished and the shoes came back looking as good as new. Even the price was low, especially when compared to the price of a new pair. Parking on Ipswich Road can be haphazard at times, but the street to the side is nearly always empty so there's plenty of room. Brandon Shoe Repairs is well worth a visit if you have shoes in need of repair, or if you just want to savour the smell of leather and shoe shine.

The most memorable though is when I won a competition for singing and was handed an amazing trophy the size of my upper body, only to find that the engraver had misspelled my name. Utter devastation! It might as well not be me who has won the trophy! Ever since then I've been very dubious about using the services of an engraver. When it has to be done though, I walk in and a wave of panic comes over me along with the thought of "What if this person completely stuffs this up?". Unfortunately it's a risk that has to be taken. Recently I bought a beautiful quill for a friend who just finished their Law degree, and I needed to take it to be engraved. Someone suggested John Hammond to me, so I decided to give him a go. His beautiful store, located on the second level of Brisbane Arcade, calmed me down immediately. Surely someone with a whole shop dedicated to engraving is more capable than the silly head at Mr Minit who ruined my trophy (way to hold a grudge, Siobhan!). The engraving turned out beautifully and came at a reasonable price. Should I need something engraved again, I'll definitely be visiting John Hammond.
