!!WARNING!!
Three hundred plus reviews dating WAY back because this place used to be pretty cool. I think that is something to keep in mind; that the "good" reviews are from many years ago.
I have been to this place over the years and its decline in service has kept me from going on numerous occasions. From the Bartenders to the Bouncers, I have experienced shitty attitudes but last night (12/12/15) tops the cake so READ closely and heed my warning. PLEASE.
Last night, I finished a paper for finals and decided to meet a dude for a drink at midnight. When we arrived, it was packed so I just asked if he would mind if we could go try to find a seat in the back before ordering and we did so I grabbed us a seat and he went to order. When he came back, he said they didn't have what I asked for so I asked him to save the seats and I went to figure out what I wanted.
When the "Bartender" (the short chic with tatts all over her) got to me, I was all smiles. I was glad to have a break from homework and be out for a drink. Also, I'm a Bartender and typically show tons of respect to fellow Bartenders.
This is how it went down:
Me: So you don't have Chimay. That's cool, what do you have that's similar?
Bartender: I don't fucking know.
Me: Well. Ok. Um, do you have anything amber on tap?
Bartender: Read the fucking chalkboard.
Me: (I noticed they had cider and Guinness. Yay. My choice was made)
Could you, please, make me a Snakebite? (I swear I'm STILL patient with this chic who continuously attempted to make me feel like an annoyance).
Bartender: (rolling eyes) I guess.
30 seconds and she brings me a pint full of what looked like mud. If any of you know a Snakebite, the cider is on the bottom, clear, and the Guinness floats beautifully on top.
I looked at the liquid that was clearly NOT a snakebite and she retorts: You don't want it?
Me: No, it doesn't look like a Snakebite.
She dumps it with attitude.
I'm still patient.
I begin to say: Ya know what, I will just take a...
Bartender: I'm not serving you anything, you're acting just "weird".
I was SHOCKED and SOBER and was not acting "weird". I was being NICE to her. I hypothesize she didn't know what a Chimay or a Snakebite was and was taking her incompetency out on me.
We all have our breaking points and her behavior toward me was very TRULY NOT OK. Reading through other reviews, I am not the first person she has lost her shit on out of the blue and for no reason so for ALL of you who she has ever insulted and gotten away with it, I pushed some glasses off the bar toward her. I won't be mistreated unjustifiably. It was an impulsive reaction to her utterly disgusting attitude and I paid for it.
She grabbed my arm from across the bar and began threatening to kill me. I pulled away and looked to the door but the place was packed and I knew she was coming around the bar for me, threatening and screaming all the while, so I waited for her to reach me. When she did, she lashed out a few punches and I blocked well. I'm not a pushover but I'm not a "hurt another" kind of person.
She grabbed the scarf around my neck, which was wrapped twice, and began to pull as far back as she could such that I began to look at others (who were just standing there watching) signaling that I couldn't breathe. I couldn't breathe and she kept pulling. The bouncer kept screaming for her to let me go that he would take it from there but she wouldn't let go.
Finally, I collapsed. Limp. I vaguely remember my body being caught by someone (I assume the bouncer) and was out cold for however long it took for him to DRAG me out the door and down the cement sidewalk.
When I finally came to, I didn't know where I was or who was dragging me where so I startled up to my feet and began hyperventilating and bawling.
A nice man, Michael, was there for me. He hadn't seen what happened but he did not leave my side until I had caught an ok grip. Michael, if you ever see this, thank you so much.
I floated back to my car, sat there not knowing what to do for a bit in shock then called 911.
They made note of the obvious strangulation by the red on my neck and asked if I wanted them to go question her.
I wasn't sure of anything.
I had just lost oxygen to my brain for a few minutes.
I told them I would follow up with this case when I had seen a doctor and my head was straight.
My friend said the Bartender was just as rude to him.
I called a nurse around 5am when I began to hurt.
She informed me to go to the hospital immediately but I was still traumatized so I went to bed with two ibuprofen knowing I would go when I woke up and someone (my daughter) could go with me.
I saw a doctor, got diagnosed with severe edema inside my throat (making it difficult to swallow or talk), got vicodin for the pain and was told to take it easy (in the middle of finals weeks).
That sadistic chic should NOT be working with the public.
If anyone witnessed what went down that night please be in touch.
