And so much of that incredible, welcoming spirit comes directly from Chris, the manager with Nick and Janine, the bartenders. Chris genuinely believes in creating a true community hub, fostering an atmosphere where everyone feels like they're part of an extended family. Wow. What a crappy experience. I came here with a couple friends (guys and girls), and they all hated it. We initially went because it came highly recommended by a friend, and it got good reviews on yelp. I have to say that this bar underperformed. The bar was not very busy when were there on a Friday, but the bartenders were still remarkably slow to take our drink orders. To top it off, the girl who ultimately took or order was a complete bitch. They have a back patio area which I thought was cool at first. Then I realized that this is where everyone comes to smoke (everything). The weed wasn't too bothersome, but the cigarette smoke was terrible. I thought I was in another decade as I was surrounded by smokers dressed like they were in a grunge band from Seattle. Guys, if you're looking to meet girls, best of luck. Complete sausage fest. Back around 2000, I remember riding past this spot on my bike. There was a host of shady characters hanging in the parking lot, slinging. I went in with some people after work later on (who referred to it as the Misery), and after a few drinks, we were frankly propositioned by a middle-aged prostitute. We graciously declined, and that was the last time I went until November, 2007. Similar scenario-drinks after work. It was quickly apparent that there was new management in place. It had an unoffensive Berkeley-hip vibe- no obvert Burners. There was a DJ, who miraculously seemed to have the contents of my CD collection at his disposal. I rate this night like horrible experience. Sexual harassment, workers taking the sexual predators side and calling me a bitch.. you name it. This place deserves the most horrendous rattling . I was having a great time i payed and gave a 20% tip!! I will never go here again! I stopped in for a quick beer on a Sunday afternoon. The smoke (tobacco and marijuana), from out back spilled into the bar. Then, some jerk, I think his name was "Jonah ", was yelling racial slurs (the N word), and anti-gay disparaging words, directed at two women. What was most surprising was that the bartender and most of the patrons just watched and said nothing as the terrified women fled the scene! I left soon as well, scared and disgusted. Okay, so I'm a little partial because i work here... but i do have to say that this place has picked up a lot since i started. it used to be the sketchy looking bar with what looked like a motel on top that we would joke about going to. it's not a joke to go into this place anymore. come inside with no more fears of having your life sucked away. come inside to meet some cool bartenders and to listen to some awesome djs. It also says a lot when you can go in and almost always see one of the bartenders hanging out at the Missouri on their off time. read more

One of my favorite bars in the East Bay. Top 5 actually. Right around the corner from my job, after a long day, the Missouri Lounge is the perfect place to escape. Just as I am getting a lil too trashy in my talk (the drinks are nice and strong), and I find that I am running low on their ever so tasty snack mix (savory and salty, fake cheese-y too), low and behold, the bar-b-que fires up. Dangerous and unsafe!! if i could post a zero star, i would.... these people have the worst service. i have been here about three times before, and the location was fine as a berkeley dive bar, except, the people do not know what the term 'service' means. i was simply trying to close my tab at the bar, and they physically pushed me out of the bar. it wasn't as if they said, "Here is your card; have a nice day." They put their hands on me, which is unacceptable. this location is not safe for anybody. read more

this place sucked. do yourself a favor and walk over to acme, which is right down the street. if you like cigarette smoke, then this is the place for you. back patio is a good idea, but not when it's filled with 'bros' smoking cigarettes. so many wannabe hipsters here it's not even funny. bartenders are slow and bitchy, and the bouncers are douchebags. drinks are cheap, so i guess you get what you pay for. read more

In March 2019, I was with a chatty bartender here, since it was a quiet night. I was looking at the vast array of bottles, and noticed something that said "Buffalo Trace" but looked different from their usual bottle. I asked her what it was, and she didn't know. It had about three fingers left at the bottom, so she looked at me mischievously and said, "wanna finish it with me?" So we did. Turns out, that 375 ml bottle was worth about $300. It was one of their experimental batches, made with oats in 2002. I found a bottle online in England and got it shipped here. Best whiskey I've ever had.
