This is my fourth escape room. It was very disappointing and seemed thown together. The staff was unfriendly and seemed easily irritated during our experience. The Candyland room was well used and components of it seemed to be falling apart. Some of the puzzles had difficulty working properly and the attendant had to come in and fix them. None of the 6 of us, including my 6 and 8 yo had a good time. My family left with a bad taste in their mouth and a headache. Definitely not worth the money. read more

There were 3 people in my group (17, 26, and 31) and we all had a great time and are planning our next trip there. The staff was nice and helpful in explaining everything. One of my favorite escape room places in the area because they have multiple rooms for each theme and they really try to make you feel like you're in whatever the theme's setting! I've done Mirage, Vampire Manor, and this time around, Candy Land, and somehow managed to escape all three. Only the hardest Butcher Shop is left! For the Candy Land room, my brother and I took on the challenge. Fun and colorful decor but we thought some of the puzzles and connections were hard or a bit of a stretch, especially considering this is one of their easier rooms. But shout out to our shift lead Tom who was very helpful! They also offer deals for different days and if you're a student, which I really appreciate. You do have to book as a group though, as reservations for a single person are not allowed, but last minute bookings are usually possible and they're open pretty late on weeknights. read more

When booking: the staff is VERY helpful and accomodating. I was planning a work outing and had fluctuating numbers. Dan and Tom especially were very quick to reply and accepted the many changes I had. We had a large group and they fit us into 2 rooms that started back to back. The rooms themselves were a lot of fun. I liked the way they did hints. We had 3 hint cards, when we called for help they would come, see where we at in the game and help with a specific puzzle. I've gone to other escape rooms that seemed like they were working off a script and would say a line as a hint, and sometimes it would be a clue to a puzzle that we had already solved. So many KUDOS to the staff to being so friendly and helpful. We did Candyland and Mirage. Don't let the star system/ranking fool you. These were still difficult multi-step puzzles. The puzzles were well thought out. We can't wait to go again and try the other rooms. read more

Went here for a team building event with my co workers and had a pretty great time. We tried out the Mirage room which we were told was supposedly their easiest room. The puzzles were challenging but not to where you felt it was impossible. I liked that they made you think outside of the box and I enjoyed the decorations of the room as well. An hour goes by alot faster than you'd imagine but we went with a group of 8 so we were able to spread ourselves out. The only reason I took one star off was because some of the mechanisms were broken which ate into our time. The hints were really helpful without giving too much away. Sign up was really easy and I enjoyed that it was simple to get a reservation together for a large group. read more

My husband and I did the Vampire Manor. Very fun! Very well thought out puzzles and extremely well designed. Very challenging. We were probably 30 seconds from escaping. My husband and had fun deconstructing it the rest of the evening. We look forward to trying the other rooms. The owner, Billy, was very friendly. I've been here twice, once for a work group and once with my boyfriend for our anniversary. I had a great time (and escaped) both times! The staff are welcoming and did a good job explaining all the rules etc well before we started, and the rooms have some really impressive locking mechanisms set up (I think the staff said one of the owners is a mechanical engineer). Some of the puzzles are very tricky, but the staff make sure their hints are helpful when you call on them. I did both the Butcher Shop room and the Mirage room - both are rooms you do in the dark with flashlights, something to consider depending on any vision concerns. You'll likely be standing the whole time, so wear comfy shoes. You'll be there about 1.5 hour total - 15 minutes before for rules, 1 hour for the room, and 15 minutes after for some pictures with props. Probably not good for young children (under 10?), and buying in advance is a good idea. Overall, I've had a great time here, and I definitely plan to go back! 5 stars! read more

Thought it was tacky to have us sign a waiver that if we broke anything there would be at $50 fee and then at the end they had us all check our pockets to make sure we didn't take anything from the room. Didn't like how they came into the room to have you hints and a couple puzzles didn't even make sense. Props still had price stickers from the thrift shop and were dirty and worn out. No real storyline. Too many red hearings. Review from my 10 year old: Today we did the Candy Land theme room at Mission X Escape. The story was very corny which was just going on a picnic. The hint system was poorly created as a employee had to come in to give you a hint. When we entered the room, we noticed almost all things were worn out. Price tags were still on items and were mistaken for clues which wasted time. Two specific puzzles were too hard as it took at least three times for the game master to come in at help us, still without fully explaining it. In a color lock, they had to come in and explain that the colors did not fully look like they were meant to. We did not make it out, but at the end she was trying to rush us out as she did not do each lock and not let us touch anything after. 3 of us spent the last 10 minutes lying on the floor, waiting for time to end. Review from my 7 year old: I liked the them but i saw a ginger bread man plate and the rope of his head was broken and the clearance sticker on it. I love the wall paintings. The lady said you have to pay if you break anything and even if the stuff was really cheap you still have to pay $50. read more

The rooms are well thought out. Surprisingly there were not that many red herrings that would distract us. We did hurricane, the puzzles and room was intriguing. The ONLY thing we did not appreciate was whenever we requested for a clue. Instead of giving us a clue/hint, our game master would give us the answer, and one time came in and completed the task himself. Our game master also gave us additional clues/hints when it wasn't asked for (which maybe some people would appreciate but it took out a lot of excitement for some puzzles that would have been cool if we figured it out ourselves). With a 15% escape rate, we escaped with 11 minutes left, and left Unsatisfied. read more

This was my first time doing an escape room and it was awesome! The staff were really friendly and great at explaining the instructions and rules of the game. We had a group of four doing the Butcher Shop (the hardest one so I was really nervous). It was a lot to take in at first but the clues were all very well thought out and I think the difficulty was just right to make it fun. There was a hint system that we could use when we got stuck that was really helpful too (use all your hints people!). We got out with just a few minutes to spare and it was pretty exhilarating. Butcher room: poorly designed. Terrible clues. One or two cool mechanisms. But this was the worst one. Mirage: way too easy and not enough puzzles. They didn't set up one of the locked boxes right and we escaped without solving that puzzle because the clue fell out of the box. Vampire Manor: the best one, with some cool unique mechanisms and puzzles. (We escaped all of them, by the way.) Overall the linear nature of the escape room is bad -- usually escape rooms will have multiple puzzles you can solve so larger groups have things to do concurrently. It would have been easier to solve these rooms with 2-3 people because of the linear nature. It really ruins the experience. And in all the rooms there is no light and they give you half as many flashlights as people to cover up for the fact that their rooms are terrible because if you can't see a bad clue you can't solve it. Guess I'm going to have to go to Raleigh because my veteran escape room friends refuse to go here anymore because it's terrible and annoying. read more

The Candy Land Escape Room was a perfect vacation activity for my family. We had 4 adults, a 6 year old, a 4 year old, and a baby. We enjoyed ourselves and were able to escape (with two hints). Lots of the escape rooms around are scary or gruesome, but we appreciated that this one was not. read more

My group did the vampire escape room. This was the most straight forward (without being easy) escape room I have done yet and I have done a lot in this area. This room also had some very neat mechanical/electrical puzzles that added to the fun experience. Stories and decorating were similar caliber to other escape rooms in the area. read more

I am very angry. I went a while back now with my friends. The room looked amateur-ish, but I am also picky with decorations, so that did not bother me. What bothered me was the young man who was our game master. He was incredibly rude and condescending. He was rude when it took me a minute to find my credit card. He talked down to my group during our briefing. He made fun of us when we did not understand something. He went too fast in our briefing and with our hints. I have tried multiple times to tell this company that I had a terrible experience with their worker, but they have ignored me. I am hoping they will listen this time. read more

Great place to having fun! I will definitely come again. Have tried two rooms. They are challenging but fun!

I've done all three rooms now and was super impressed by all three and the staff. I would agree with the difficulty levels that they assign: Mirage is the easiest, Vampire Manor is intermediate, and Butcher Shop is the hardest. I wish that Butcher Shop had been an hour rather than 45 minutes because some of the technological parts took a long time to load. My only other complaint is that when you ask for a hint the staff has to come in and ask you what you have completed and where you are which takes time and cuts into the experience (so use your hints wisely). However, the staff is very nice and helpful and wants everyone to have fun. My friends and I had a great time doing all three rooms and I hope they open another room soon! This is definitely different than other room escapes in the area so check them out if you are looking for something new and different (and check their website for promotions like a student/Duke discount and a free game on your birthday)! read more
