I love to tell the world about my favorite places. This is a one of the best markets ...for the…read moresheer variety and the quality....and how nice the people are. One of the things I love about it is that it is a producer-only market...all vendors make or grow what they sell. Every week it seems this market has a new vendor or two, it's a great mix. You see stall after stall of beautiful local produce, of course, at the many organic and conventionally grown produce stands - an amazing variety of veggies and fruit so fresh-picked; fruit from local orchards; organically grown mushrooms; color splashes of beautiful flower bouquets; an herb lady; succulents in lovely planters; a coffee purveyor with exotic coffees (one organic) that he drip brews for you on the spot (with some bottled varieties on hand); homemade soups made from fresh local ingredients; a colorful gourmet food truck, crusty artisan bread bakeries, macarons, great bakeries including an organic bakery with tons of the best gluten-free baked goods and some vegan, no-flour, no refined sugar plus tacos, burritos and wraps; once a month there is a tool sharpening service; granolas, strudel and shoo-fly pie; several meat vendors including some grass-fed beef and organic poultry; cheese vendors including goat's milk; community art projects (help make a mural); and live music! It's a real community and family event. Folks coming after church. Parents pushing strollers. People come with their dogs. You bump into friends and neighbors, have some great nosh and stock up for the week's meals. I love getting to know the folks who grow and make what we eat. You get to be a regular and get to know them and the other customers. I love to stroll picturesque West Reading. Many cafes, restaurants, boutiques and unique shops. What first struck me when we moved to the area was how lovely the street was lined with huge planters spilling over with flowers everywhere you go. It's really a lovely way to spend Sunday mornings. (And go rain or shine! I always knew that our farmers face crop losses due to inclement weather, but it was only recently I realized that they get hit again when we don't come out to market...or the bakers, and other vendors who worked so hard making their perishable wares, taking the chance the weather will hold.)

parking was difficult to find. only two vendors had fresh produce…read more Streets were blocked off from traffic.
