Kim talked to us to see our comfort of riding and experience level. Then we headed over to the barn to see what horses were feeling up for a ride. She chose the horses and saddled them up. Kim truly loves her horses and cares for them with so much compassion. She brushed each one, sprayed them down so the bugs didn't bother them and saddled them up. She made sure our stirrup's fit properly and we loaded up for the ride. Once out of the gate we headed for the trail and then through the woods, crossed a creek and even met some of her neighbors along the ride. We trotted and galloped, my goodness I loved EVERY second of it!!! The horses listened very well. They look to Kim as their leader and will not run without her doing so even if you try to get them to. We will definitely be back when the weather cools down. I love that she doesn't run her horses in summer much because of the heat. This is a wonderful place to ride.

From giving a snack to Buddy the friendly vocal sheep, to bottle feeding the adorable baby goats, my visit to Rose Bridge Farm was a great escape from the noise and commotion going on in the outside world. It is well worth making a reservation on the website to visit. There are also special activities to sign up for ranging from making a succulent "wall" to hiking with the lovely hiking goats in Wissahickon Park. Some yoga with the baby goats also sounds like a real treat and challenge to try one day.

The instructors took a group shot of us for a nice keepsake. I highly recommend Sheeder Mill Farms for groups of all skill levels.

You take a 15 minute tutorial in how to ride then off you go.

Most of our private lessons were with Ally, whose knowledge far exceeds her years. I had zero prior experience, and my wife took lessons as a teen. But neither of us would've been prepared to enjoy riding in Montana without the professional guidance (in the ring and eventually on the trail) we received at Red Buffalo. When managing dozens of animals, along with customers of varying skill levels, there are bound to be occasional hiccups, so you need to approach it with that in mind. But I've watched many times as the Red Buffalo staff got mixed groups of adults and/or children situated on their horses and out for their trail-rides in a safe and organized manner. All the animals appear healthy and cared-for, and the staff are all friendly and professional. I would recommend Red Buffalo to anyone in the Montgomery County area looking for a fun and safe horseback riding experience.

We switched to Crawford Organics after a season with Greensgrow. It is an all-organic,…read morefamily-operated CSA that delivers to a couple of locations in Philly. We've picked up at Bodhi Coffee on Headhouse as well as Sweet Freedom Bakery during two separate seasons. What we've loved: wonderful organic produce, on-time delivery with flexible pick-up (Sweet Freedom would hold our box until the next day when we needed), wonderful newletters with pictures and recipes, and a knowledgeable response to customer inquiries. Also, we really enjoyed the dried goods that came in our box sometimes: popcorn, cornbread mix, and a dried tomato thing that rehydrated into a delicious pesto. What could be better: More variety. We got so many potatoes and sweet potatoes that we had to constantly give half away. We got lettuce (a head or two) every week, so I had to get really creative with recipes (btw, Lettuce Soup is delicious!). However, the website says that the Crawford family would like to continue adding more crops, so I suspect that this will improve as they diversify the farm. Fewer Herbs. The herbs were a nice touch, but the portions were too large. I really struggled to use as much cilantro as was given to us, even though I put it in everything AND froze some. Same for other herbs - plenty to use, to freeze, or to dry, but really could be smaller bunches in order to be enjoyed fresh. Discount for Returners. We missed the Early Bird discount because we thought we were moving and hence couldn't renew right away. It would have been nice to get a "second season" discount as a gesture for loyalty. I would (and have!) recommend this CSA to anyone looking for organic, affordable produce in Philly. If you haven't ever tried a CSA before, you can confidently try this one!
