As many have mentioned the parking lot is tight, and I'd advise leaving on US 222 North as trying to go south out of there could prove difficult. I will definitely stop again when I'm in the area.

The parking area is no more than a small dirt spot, small enough that I can't seriously call it a lot, that can fit only a few cars and you really need to think about the angle you park on because getting back out onto 222 during busier traffic times will be interesting, i.e. deadly, if you have to try to back out or attempt some other similar nonsense. You also can't miss the old wooden signs that they have all along 222 North advertising everything from Shoo Fly Pie, Raisin Pie, Whoopee Pie and all of the various produce items that they are currently selling. Also worth noting is that the location that Yelp has them listed at currently, 222 Pleasant Hill Road in Berks County PA, is of course wrong as they are at the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road and Route 222 in Fleetwood. I've sent in links that show what their official address is per the Yellow Pages but you know how things work with Yelp. Inside the stand they have several tables of produce (potatoes, tomatoes, peaches, watermelon, cantaloupe, honey, cucumbers, zucchini, etc.) along with various arts/crafts items and even a small area with things like pot holders and quilts. There is also a fridge with milk, eggs, and a few drinks and desserts. The only thing worth noting is that the staff are not big on talking with us Englishmen so don't be put off if you are not always greeted or if they are a little awkward if you ask a question about a product. Just let what they sell do the talking and you'll be happy with what you got.

For those who don't live in Lancaster, PA; it's a "thing" and a good "thing" at that. There was an overwhelming response for Kissel Hill and so, that's where I vowed to be, on a Saturday, arriving at around 11:15. The barbecue masses, showed up at 10am. I figured this must have been the case, because when I arrived, there were no more leg/thigh combos, grilled sliced potatoes - sold out, except for one, which we snagged (the last potato) and grilled carrots - gone. If you plan on going to an Amish barbecue stand, get there EARLY. The consensus (among myself & hubby), potato - under cooked, chicken lacked essential flavors derived from smoke and brining, meat wasn't as tender as was expected, completely out of napkins and forks?? Oh crap! Come on Kissel, I know this isn't your first rodeo. Some Amish bbq stands include whoopie pies, this was not one of them. Sadly, even the roll was not up to par; it was stale. Oh man. No worries, Lancaster County has lots of contenders out there and I aim to try all of them. There is small adjoining market with a ton of apples, onions, potatoes, pie filling, pickles, noodles, baked goods, flowers, dairy items and more.

When we entered the place we noticed that they have separate stands that sell specific items that are run by the local workers from each Department that there are in charge of that specific area. When we went to one of the counters to ask a question the employee helped us with what we were looking for which was shoofly pie. The shoofly pie let me tell you was delicious. The place was very well taken care of and organized. They have a parking lot that is right on the side of the building for free parking . We went there right after Christmas and it was decorated as well. If you're in the area I would recommend you to stop by even if you don't purchase anything just to check it out as well.

We were so impressed that we have hosted a drop site for the past few seasons and it just works out so well and everyone is super friendly. We switched to Crawford Organics after a season with Greensgrow. It is an all-organic,…read morefamily-operated CSA that delivers to a couple of locations in Philly. We've picked up at Bodhi Coffee on Headhouse as well as Sweet Freedom Bakery during two separate seasons. What we've loved: wonderful organic produce, on-time delivery with flexible pick-up (Sweet Freedom would hold our box until the next day when we needed), wonderful newletters with pictures and recipes, and a knowledgeable response to customer inquiries. Also, we really enjoyed the dried goods that came in our box sometimes: popcorn, cornbread mix, and a dried tomato thing that rehydrated into a delicious pesto. What could be better: More variety. We got so many potatoes and sweet potatoes that we had to constantly give half away. We got lettuce (a head or two) every week, so I had to get really creative with recipes (btw, Lettuce Soup is delicious!). However, the website says that the Crawford family would like to continue adding more crops, so I suspect that this will improve as they diversify the farm. Fewer Herbs. The herbs were a nice touch, but the portions were too large. I really struggled to use as much cilantro as was given to us, even though I put it in everything AND froze some. Same for other herbs - plenty to use, to freeze, or to dry, but really could be smaller bunches in order to be enjoyed fresh. Discount for Returners. We missed the Early Bird discount because we thought we were moving and hence couldn't renew right away. It would have been nice to get a "second season" discount as a gesture for loyalty. I would (and have!) recommend this CSA to anyone looking for organic, affordable produce in Philly. If you haven't ever tried a CSA before, you can confidently try this one!

Stay away from the outdoor area. On several occasions I have witnessed large vehicles driving up…read moreand down the isles. They are not vendors they are people that are looking for things that drive instead of walk. I have seen people with strollers almost hit. I have seen elderly people almost hit as well as kids. This is not an exaggeration. I stopped frequenting the outdoor area because of this reason. There is staff in the area, I don't know why this is permitted but it's dangerous. I said something to staff and was told they are vendors that are leaving. They were not, they wouldn't be going up and down all the isles if they were leaving. After that experience I no longer said anything but I will not return.

When September rolls around, I am so sad to say good-bye to chicken BBQ, but then May is here and it's BACK! This place ain't fancy and there's no whoopie pie, but who needs a whoopie pie, when Hayloft Ice Cream is directly across the street. Tender, succulent, marinaded chicken, seasoning is on point, small potato, perfectly grilled/cooked, soft roll, tangy/sweet slaw, grilled corn - worth the wait for May to roll around. The wait is excruciating, though. During my last visit, Hayloft had strawberry soft ice cream. A perfect ending to an even more perfect chicken bbq.
