Individuals with disabilities are not welcome at Mission Renaissance in Irvine, if they need medical supervision. Matt of Mission Renaissance just called to inform me minimal accommodations are not available for individuals with disabilities needing a nurse or caregiver; i.e, disabled individuals are not welcome. With 10 years of previous drawing experience, the art studio insisted that I re-learn the basics so for $300 I received at most 15 minutes of minor feedback and recommended 'adjustments'. After 10 years of drawing classes I wanted to return to drawing. However $300 in they are insisting that I start all over from the beginning including perspective and tone which I am well versed in and am familiar with their terminology and approach. I finished both $40 books (which they make you buy in addition to the class) in about two hours. Too stifling and I did not learn anything new for $300, just practice and dusting off cobwebs of what I already knew and could easily do at home by myself, instructor had absolutely NOTHING to add, teach me or even correct me on my drawings. We found Mission:Renaissance walking by and my daughter looked interested. We went in, someone very friendly helped us and explained their pricing (at first seems pretty expensive, read on) and said they offer a first time free class, and if you sign up at the end of that class they waive the registration and supply fee (about $72 in total). We did the free art class. This where the pricing doesn't seem expensive for what you are getting. My daughter is 6, loves to draw, but has never worked with something like Pastels or had any real formal classes. She takes an art camp at school and while the drawings are good, it looks like they have her tracing. Mission:Renaissance starts at the basics and throws them into it right away. Her first day she made the best piece of art she ever has and was so proud of what she did. Their teaching method is really great and on day one they have her shading, using tone to create depth and helping with color choices. She had her second class this week and from one day to the next the growth is amazing. The quality of the teaching, materials and development goes a long way toward making the monthly price completely worth it.. My daughter loves what she is make in there, she loves the teaching and it is an hour and a half that we can just let her be in her own environment exploring. If you are thinking of coming here do the intro class, then if you sign up at the end you can do the next 3 classes for eith $85 or $89 (can't remember exactly) and you skip the registration and supply fee. This is what we did before going further thinking that 3 additional weeks will be enough to see if she wants to continue. Their cancellation policy is really easy (just call at least a minute before class starts and you are fine) and from what they said if you pay for classes, you have those classes forever if something comes up. You can schedule later at any time. Great place, I am really proud to see what my daughter is creating and some of the work by kids of all ages is really amazing. read more

My daughter has been going here for years. All the teachers are amazing. I love the little art shows at the end of each class and the kids work displayed outside. My daughter loves going here and I have seen her work improve year after year. Even the teachers in school comment how beautifully she draws. read more

I've been doing classes for almost 4 years and I absolutely enjoy each and every second of the classes i take here! The teachers are nice and super friendly so I'm always comfortable asking for help or making mistakes. They help guide us step by step and let us learn at our own pace which is awesome! I initially won a free month, but what I won was not good. I really think that this company gets its business my picking a person(s) each month and then they tell them they won a free month. Matthew was okay, but in the month free trial I became sick for three weeks and he wouldn't extend my free month to accommodate my illness. I had to call corporate and then I spoke to Crystal and she said she would accommodate me. I went to Mission Renaissance on a Friday, February 4th, and there was no air conditioning and the space reeked of oil paints which was not the case the first two weeks of my free month. I said I would have to come back. Then on a Thursday, I again spoke to Matthew who assured me that the air would be on and the door would be open. When I got there the second Friday, February 11th, again the space smelled horrible. The man that took Matt's place was not willing to put the air on and I left. He also showed me a little box fan, which he thought was sufficient, but it wasn't. Terrible customer service! read more

My son enjoys the art classes. One note is your initial art "supply" purchase won't be your only purchase as was indicated. As you progress, it gets increasingly expensive. It will run you about $150 to increase to watercolor and I'm scared about moving up to oil. They want you to use THEIR materials. Also VERY disappointed that they publish coupons without a lot of description. Then tell you they are ONLY good under certain circumstances that aren't listed on the coupon. A 20% off coupon should mean 20% off. Doesn't say new students, doesn't say anything much. Only when you get there do they tell you it's not valid. Called corporate and even though they admitted it wasn't printed properly, they REFUSED to do anything about it. If it wasn't for the enjoyment my child got there, I would be looking for another art class. Very expensive. read more

Just signed up my daughter for the year! Shes a transferred student from another art school due to the commute and we found this location to be closer. After her 2nd class there she loved the style of teaching, how to hold a pencil the use of pastels and the history of the art. I love that they make them read art related books and keep them well rounded on the art skill. Looking forward to a new year of new skills for my daughter! read more

My daughter started 2 hour classes over summer and loved it. When we signed up we told them she would need to switch to Saturday classes once school started. We paid a lot of money to later find out that she HAD to go for three hours on Saturdays, which of course, costs more money. There was NEVER any mention of this time requirement when we signed the contract. They should have disclosed this at the time of signing - we are out a lot of money.
