Often have to wait in the evenings for booked appointments. The last two times I've been over 30-40 mins late going in.

I have been recommended to Harley Street Health Centre by one of my colleagues. So I booked an appointment with Dr Abood. The consult lasted an hour, and included a chat about my symptoms, when they occur, ear & nose check, blood pressure and also had blood taken. Personally, even though I am in my mid 30's,I am really scarred of the needle, but the nurse was amazing. She distracted me by keeping my mind busy chatting, while she was drawing blood. Offered me water & advised to wait for couple of minutes before I leave. The whole experience was 5*. No rushing or looking at you like you are crazy because your palms & sole is itching at night, weirdly enough. So the next day I got my results. It was not as bad as I thought. Iron & Vitamin D deficiency. Something that can be fixed easily. So glad I went to the clinic, as my nose bleeds and itchyness have been haunting me for years. I am now taking my supplements & feeling much better. Will have another blood test done probably in 3-4 months.

Unfortunately they can be difficult to get into if you drop off the list like I did, as they are so popular the waiting list tends to be closed. They run a well woman clinic which was round in the prefabs out back last time I visited for my 'MOT'. Perfectly nice prefabs and the doctor I saw last time was great. I've also been on several occasions for physiotherapy. It's a busy clinic. You visit several times, and see the same person each time. They also run a 'core stability exercise class' which I was lucky enough to be referred to. I was actually sent for problems with my knees, but it helped my bad neck as well. It included a fair amount of pilates with some added help and advice. Very good and great to be prescribed it on the national health! The hospital is in an old building, which means access is sometimes a bit creative! Some of the sloping floors make getting to physio a little uncomfortable for those with achy pins! I guess that's what you pay for being in a really rather nice old building There is a café, right in the middle of the building, which I always seem to just miss. When it's open you can walk through it to get to most departments. When closed you have to go round via a partitioned off corridor down one side. So, not the most convenient building. But it has character, and I've had lots of excellent care there.

With a new baby (and frankly, a lack of NHS knowledge), I set out to see if this would work. I researched the doctors at the City practice on New Broad Street, selected one that seemed to focus on pediatrics, and made appointments for both him and myself for 6 weeks post-birth to make sure things were running smoothly. First, this office is very nice. Well appointed, clean and sharp. The receptionists are smartly dressed and efficient. This office runs on 15 minute appointment slots and is run like a machine. You get in, you get what you need, you get out. What, unfortunately, you do NOT get is a lot of personalized care and attention to your specific needs. A general overview? Yes. An rx for meds? Yes. A brief consult? Yes. But if you want a professional who is really going to get to know you, care about your health (and your child's health) -- this is definitely not the place. I went to several appointments for various things that left much to be desired. In one instance the doctor said I needed a butterfly bandage for a wound. She looked for one but could not find one (what?) and then advised me to buy one at Boots and place it on myself. Given the location of this wound (c-section) -- not really possible, this is why I came to the doctor in the first place! If I wanted to be told to go buy my own supplies down the street and administer myself I could just go to NHS. If I'm paying 70 quid for a 15 minute appointment, you better have a damn bandage for godssakes. In another instance, with my baby, he needed a very basic silver nitrate application to address an umbilical hematoma. They told me that unfortunately, as they don't see a lot of infants, they don't stock silver nitrate sticks (they are SOOOO tiny, stock one!) and that I'd need to visit my GP. Well, that's the funny part. They bill themselves as being your GP. Upon making an appointment I received no less than 4 emails about their "MY GP" program where you pay up front and then have access at a lower cost. But I left wondering, what ELSE wouldn't they really be able to provide? *Being 2 weeks post-birth with a newborn baby in the City, I wanted them to just take care of it. I did not want to be bounced back into another system. I ended up taking him to my pediatrician in the States and it was solved within minutes. So in short, I figured it out. This is an expedient way to be seen if you have something urgent and your GP can't see you quickly enough (need antibiotics, etc), or if you need a referral to a specialist. My experience with one of the doctors was subpar at best. I'm sure it varies based on the consultant. If you need a real care provider, this is not the place. Know what you need, if its 15 minutes and a quick prescription and that's worth £70, then this will work.

I had a broken pelvis and was thrown about like a rag doll by a male nurse after he changed my gown, and manhandled me into a clean gown whilst ripping out the cannula in my hand in the process, then literally thrown onto the hospital bed, all done without a word, I was given tablets that caused me to have diarrhea, I had to press the buzzer several times for a bedpan, which fell on deaf ears resulting in my horror and embarrassment in messing up the bed up, and if that wasn't bad enough, when the "so-called" nurse eventually bothered to attend to me (albeit too late) I was treated with utter disdain and disgust. The female nurse said "this is disgusting, you stink of dog poo" then proceeded to strip wash me in cold water very aggressively then threw the dirty gown in my face, saying "this is you" Hard to believe but true, I never in my entire 73 years of life been treated this bad and cannot believe this is the caring profession !!!
