In Madison for the weekend and gave this place a try. The food was great. We tried the Colombian empanada de carne - delicious! Pollo saltado and lomo saltado - great... although the steak was a little too crisp for our liking. Pollo à la brasa - perfect size for a kid. Vegetarian chaufa- excellent. We would definitely recommend this place! Edited to add that this is for the King St location. read more

Mishqui Peruvian Bistro may have moved locations, but unfortunately the quality of the food makes it such I recommend skipping it altogeher. The flavors lacked the depth and punch you expect from good Peruvian cuisine, and nothing on the plate felt memorable. With another Peruvian option in the area, it's hard to justify spending time or money at Mishqui. If you're craving Peruvian food, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Pikkito in Middleton is a far better choice and actually delivers on flavor and authenticity. Overall, this is an easy one to skip. read more

Stopped in for dinner during restaurant week. Service was very good. Food was tasty as usual. I got one Peruvian and one Colombian vegan empanada, the tallarines verdes lomo al jugo, and the tres leches cake. The empanadas were both tasty. I wasn't sure if I'd like the vegan filling, but it was pretty good. Huge portion for the pasta dish, I had two extra meals from it. First time trying the pasta. It was an interesting alternative to the lomo saltado with rice. Finally, we got to take the dessert to go which was a nice option because we were stuffed. The tres leches cake was so good! Very moist, cinnamon forward, and not too sweet. It was my first time trying their desserts and I would highly recommend. I had a bite of the flan and that was very delicious as well. I recommend coming a little earlier than when you want to eat because it does take a little bit for food to come out fresh. read more

This place is a gem. I've been several times to their Monona location and their newer Middleton location. Favorites: ceviche (seafood mix) & lomo saltado. The empanadas are also delicious. I never have room for dessert, but they have a whole dessert case and you can always take dessert home! Also, they have consistently been an option for Madison Restaurant Week. So if you haven't tried them out, try them during MRW! There is a large variety of items on their menu and if you are looking for delicious food and food that can meet several dietary accommodations, this is the place. They offer vegan and gluten free options. Their menu is labeled too with these options. Service is great --- everyone is so nice! I've gone with friends (3-4 people) and I've seen larger groups (families) celebrate a special occasion. Parking for the Monona location is available, but they share a lot with the Asian grocery store, viet hoa. read more

I stopped by to have a lunch on a weekday. The place was not too busy. I went with the crowd favorite item - Pescado frito / whole fish fry. It was simply the best fish fry I ever had. The fish was big, enough for more than one person. But it tasted so good, I finished the whole thing in a sitting. The fish was fried crispy. I ate almost everything, including skin and some tender bones in the head. I ate everything I can chew and swallow. There was rice and fried plantains on the side. Also it came with a side of salad, which was very good as well. I went for my favorite Peruvian drink, chicha morada. That was good too. read more

Mishqui Peruvian Cuisine is a valuable culinary addition that highlights the culture & delicious Peruvian cuisine located in Monona, WI! :) "Mishqui" means "delicious" in the Quechua language spoken by Peru's ancient Inca Empire. This restaurant is based on Peru's cultural diversity of immigrants from Spain, Italy, Africa, China; & with its indigenous populations, such as the Inca using cooking techniques/ingredients from its Creole cuisine during its Colonial historical period & highlights popular dishes from different regions in Peru! It is a smaller, casual restaurant festively decorated with Peruvian art, a nice small bar, & when you first walk in you see a showcase of the most scrumptious popular Peruvian bakery treats beautifully displayed in the front bakery window such as the Tres Leches cake or chocolate chip empanada dessert!! You can usually seat yourself & the service has been great the times I visited there! Mishqui Peruvian cuisine mostly serves incredible Columbian/Peruvian style empanadas, stir fries such as Lomo Saltado, seafood such as ceviche, fried rice dishes, plantains, & serve some South American beers, wine, & even Inca cola! They also have exclusive special dishes served only on weekends such as fried seafood platter (Leche de Tigre)! Their Lomo Saltado dish (beef stir fry) made with tomatoes, aromatic cilantro, soy and oyster sauce is truly incredible which I highly recommend! I completely cleaned my plate! The beef tenderloin was super flavorful, well seasoned/seared, & the sauce was out of this world with a rich unique umami flavor I couldn't get enough of that went so well with a side of rice & fries! I also tried their deep fried Pompano fish served whole with sweet plantains, white rice and salad! The Pompano was fresh and fried to perfection!!! If you are looking to explore Peruvian cuisine & culture this is a great restaurant to check out! This place is EXCELLENT!!!! read more

Fabulous. Everything was excellent. Excited to go back and try it again. Excellent food, great service, and nice ambiance.

We came as a group of three and this was all around, a really great meal! I feel like everything was made fresh, and while service took a little bit longer than we expected, I think it was well worth the wait and for the quality. We started with the yuca frita, which was so perfectly crispy and with the creamy, savory, sauce, it is just the perfect way to star tthe meal! We also did two Peruvian empanadas, which weren't too memorable, but were still delicious (because who doesn't love an empanada?). The pork bites with tostones will be beloved by any meat lovers in the group, and I particularly enjoyed the salsa criolla that comes with it. For mains, we did aji de gallina, which was good, but nothing that will blow your mind - it is a comforting, approachable dish for anyone new to Peruvian cuisine. We also did the whole fish, and then a seafood rice combo. All of the mains, I think, were excellent, and my favorite was the whole fish! I'm so glad Mishwui is here and I hope they're here to stay for a while! read more

This was our second visit. This time for lunch. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful. Any questions we had were answered the best they could. Lunch time was nice and quiet, with plenty of choice of seating...AND plenty of choices in the sweets case!!!! The carrot cake..... ohhhhhhh the carrot cake!!!!! That frosting was.... Delicious!!! One side note, they do implement an automatic gratuity, so be prepared to spend a tad more than what the menu says. It is posted at all the tables AND at the counter, they are not hiding it, they do state that it is a gratuity, that is shared with the staff. Just be ready for it. That being said, the food has been excellent both times I've been there and I will certainly be back! read more

Mishqui was surprisingly busy on the Sunday evening we stopped in for dinner. I finally made it to this popular restaurant that my wife had already dined at and loved. After starting with a Peruvian beer (though I was tempted to get an Inka Cola) I ordered the ground beef Peruvian empanada which was very good. It had an interesting sweetness to it. My wife declared that the vegan empanada was excellent (way better than the chicken one). We then split the jerk pork fried rice which was very tasty and a large portion. The service was friendly and efficient. They automatically add on a 15% gratuity to all bills so be ready. The prices were reasonable and there were a number of dishes I wanted to try. We will return! read more

I had a little extra time before my flight back to Denver and wanted something more interesting than airport food for lunch. I'm so glad I tried Mishqui, it was wonderful. I've eaten in many Peruvian restaurants around the country (my dad was Peruvian) and this is among the most authentic I've tried. It's not fancy, but the menu has many traditional favorites on it. They also have a nice selection of Peruvian non-alcoholic beverages, beer, and spirits. I'll have to come back for dinner some time so I can try their pisco sour. My ceviche was straight forward, super fresh, and delicious. The house salad has a nice mix of fresh greens, red onion, avocado, and hard boiled egg with a very tasty house dressing. My server was very friendly and the atmosphere is laid back. It was exactly what I was hoping for. I will definitely be back. read more

Amazing dessert case for a quick homemade treat. Very pleasant people. Small seating area but clean.

Personally, I'm happy I found this place. I have food sensitivities and the gluten free vegan options are real good. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. I love the lettering on the back wall of the shop. Clean, friendly, and amazing food. They also have vegan gluten free options for desserts. I'm happy I made time to check this place out. Keep up the amazing work and I hope crowds of people flock to your restaurants. I'll be back with friends and telling people. read more

Every dish we've tried is excellent! We recently tried the paella, the whole fish and the fish fry. They were all excellent! They give small containers of their yummy cilantro sauce and another creamy, hot & spicy sauce. The yucca is very crispy. The chef really knows how to cook yucca perfectly. We're definitely making Mishqui a favored place in our rotation of restaurants! read more

Usually when I visit a restaurant more than once I order a new dish but because I love this dish so much I had to order it again. I met up with some friends Friday evening around 6PM and the parking lot was full and there was a 30-45 minute wait on the food. I appreciated that there was a sign that there was a wait. I also appreciated that appetizers came out quickly due to the long food wait time. My friend ordered the Pescado Frito/Fried Whole Pompano fish as well but her fish was much smaller than mine and the owner confirmed that they are using a new fish vendor and the fish are smaller. With the fish being smaller I think the price should refelct that-just a suggestion. The food and the service is always food and I love the new addition of scanning a QR code to view menu photos. read more

We came across this restaurant accidentally. We Rented bikes at Budget Bike Center and were riding around Monona Lake and stopped for lunch. It is very cute and extremely clean. Mishqui Peruvian Bistro - Lomo Saltado, very traditional. - Peruvian Near Me - Madison, Wisconsin

I've been three times and only one dish wasn't great. We are vegetarians, so our selection is a bit limited. The special vegetarian empanadas were great. Both the tallerines verdes and tallerines saltado were fantastic. (Note: one time we ordered GF and the order took almost an hour...so be careful about that. The next time we ordered the regular pasta, and the food still took an hour to arrive. It was OK...we had to leave almost as soon as the food arrived due to another conflict but the appetizers were so filling we ate a few bites and took the rest...everyone was still quite happy). The vegetarian fried rice was fantastic as well. (The first time I came I had the regular empanadas, which were overly greasy and a bit bland; the only bad order we've had with three visits with multiple people each time) read more

This restaurant came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. The food was phenomenal. I'm a big foodie and these are some of the best tasting dishes I've had in all of the Madison area. We started with empanadas. Beef and chicken. I tried the Peruvian empanadas (baked) and my partner the Colombian empanadas (fried). Super delicious. The dough on the Peruvian empanadas was slightly sweat and flakey. And they were all loaded with yumminess. We split the Lomo Saltado entree and opted to add the fried egg and sweet plantains. OMG! This dish was simply amazing. The beef was super tender, the sauce was so flavorful, the plantains were sweet (but not too sweet) and cooked perfectly, the rice and veggies were also cooked perfectly. The portion was quite generous and unfortunately did not leave us room for dessert. We'll save room for our next visit which will hopefully be very soon! read more

Love this addition to the Madison/Monona area, always great to see some diversity in the food scene. My partner and I came here for lunch and we were very impressed. Pro-tip, save room for dessert! You will not want to pass up on the delicacies they have behind the front counter on display. I ordered the Pollo Saltado and my partner ordered the Ceviche. Both were fantastic, Ceviche is something we associate with traveling so it was great to be able to get it in Madison. Everything was very fresh tasting and it came out very fast. Give this place a try, you will not regret it! read more

I so wanted to love this place. But unfortunately, I did not. The food was extremely bland and overpriced for what you got. Not being familiar with Peruvian food, and unsure what to order, I choose one of the specials which was a small portion of 4 different items from the menu. It was mostly beans, very little meat and very little flavor. So disappointed. read more

This local to Monona place has a ton of potential. You walk in & seat yourself, but first a bakery case filled with decedent looking desserts. They even have Peruvian beer! But I didn't try it because I got my meal to go. The Colombian empanadas were out of this world, not too much pastry & packed with flavor. The Aji de Gallina was flavorful but a little too rich, served with both potatoes & rice. Needed one more thing to add. The Chicharron was a little dry but the idea of the plate was good, a yummy pairing with sweet potato & sauce. We will be back to try it again! read more

This place WAS AMAZING!!!! Me being Peruvian and a harsh critic when it comes to Peruvian cuisine, I was so impressed. This was my first time in Madison and my partner's family wanted me to pick a place. My go-to when I'm in any city is Peruvian food. I found this place on Yelp and it had good reviews. When we got there, I could already smell that familiar smell of good Peruvian food. We were immediately greeted by a wonderful woman telling us to pick any table. I loved that they had a huge thriving Monstera plant in between the bathrooms. I had two vegan empanadas THAT WERE SOOOO GOOD. Even the meat lovers at the table were surprised. I also got some chichi mirada to start. It was not too sweet and not too bitter, but just right. Then, the food came. The portions were HUGE, all of us loved the food, but all of us had leftovers. The Arroz Chaufa was delicious and tasted authentic along with the rest of the food. Our family that lives in Madison were already talking about how they're gonna come back and try different things. It was satisfying, my stomach was pleased. It was also satisfying to talk with our personable Peruvian waitress. You guys got to try this place out, the thing about good Peruvian food is... The whole menu will be good. We got seven different dishes and all reminded me of my grandma's cooking. Highly, highly, highly recommend to anyone wanting latin cuisine. They also have Colombian empanadas and a selection of desserts that we were too full to try. They even have one Cuban dessert which is a guava and cream cheese pastry. If the desserts are anything like the food, you won't be disappointed. I'm glad we came here and glad to have shown our family a different type of cuisine rather than what they're usually used to! I hope the staff and this place gets the recognition they deserve. read more

Food was really great, the menu had a variety of items. We tried the tender fried pork for an app and it was super tender and juicy, with a great crispy exterior. The shrimp ceviche was good, the only complaint I had is I asked for it hot and it was mild. Still, the flavor was there. read more
