I hate to leave a bad review because when I've been able to shop here, the selection is great, but I have attempted to go on four separate occasions in the last two months and even though each time I've tried to visit was during the posted hours of operation, the store has been closed. I have tried to go to Mischief on numerous occasions after checking the hours online. They are always closed. Most recently I even called in advance to confirm that they would be open and received confirmation that they would be open but when I went by they were closed. I want to patronize this store but their inconsistent hours are frustrating and disappointing. I came during my workday which was extra frustrating. I hope that they can post more consistent hours online so that this issue can be improved and the store can be successful. read more

This place is loaded with local craftsfolks' goods and gifts! Amazing selection. It will become my go-to for gifts for people I adore. My husband and son have birthdays coming up and it was hard to pick just one gift for each of them. I settled on some lovely prints by local artists. Had such a great time today taking a virtual mini macrame class with Melisa Joy. I signed up for the class and ordered materials online - super easy, step-by-step walk-thru online. The materials arrived neatly packaged with instructions for optional early prep and guide to follow during the actual class. Tiffany, the owner of Mischief Oakland, joined us to start and make introductions, then Melisa Joy walkes us through how to make the cutest hanging mini macrame designs. She was very thorough and made sure nobody was left behind and nobody was left waiting around. I had a great time and it seemed like everyone else did, too. I've been able to visit this store maybe one time. There are lots of grear gifts that you can get here but it's literally almost never open despite its hours on Google. Just drove by it at 1pm and it still says closed haha. Would love to see this place have it's doors open some time. read more

CLASSES Just took my second class at Mischief today. I LOVED it. The enamel jewelry teacher was Chelsey Greene of Facet Handmade. The class was high quality and the teacher was supportive and enthusiastic about our creativity. The class was affordable and I came out with two beautiful pieces that are ready to wear and looked as if a professional artist made them (see my pics!) I can't wait to take my next class, a wire work jewelry class next month. Both the art and jewelry class I took had around 11 people in the class and everybody was super sweet. STORE The owners are warm, hard working earnest people. The space is organized and packed with great stuff from floor to shelves. I'm so happy this business is in the Laurel district. The art, clothing and gifts in the shop seemed locally grown and original. Mischief is a perfect if you want to buy a unique gift. Loved the rustic ceramic cup and plate sets and the jewelry. I know I sound like an advertisement but I'm actually being honest about what I've seen the five times I've been in the store. read more

I don't get out to this neighborhood of Oakland much, but now that I've found Mischief I reckon that'll be a changin. I came to Mischief for the first time this past weekend to take a 2.5 hour bitters-making class. I didn't realize that mischief was actually a full blown shop featuring pretty much only locally made goods like apparel, scents, pottery, jewelry, art, cards, and more. It's not a huge shop but they do a lot with the space, including having a small workshop space in the back where classes and meet-ups take place. The shop guy was really nice and super informed about all shop products and the artists that made them. It was cool to see local repping local so well. read more

I am so happy to heave learned about this wonderful community resource! I took a botanical print making class with Carla recently and it was fantastic! I am a total crafty wanna be and often feel like any arty project I try ends up looking like a kindergartener made it (no offense to kids :) And while I have a LOT to learn about this particular technique - I have some confidence that I could actually make some things that look nice! I also am just looking at the world around me a little differently now...what would THAT leaf look like on a tea towel? How about that flower? Can't wait to get some supplies and spend more time making art. Carla was so warm and welcoming as was the entire staff of Mischief. And the store has really beautiful items. I am obsessed with this store. It is the cutest! Amazing selection from a ton of local makers! This shop is an amazing addition to this area. Light, airy and inspiring shop filled with unique ly creative items for the home. Each item is a delight and has a certain cheeriness to it that just made me feel good. Check out their greeting cards, too! No lame Hallmark cards, just pure artsy genius. The owner Laura is friendly and easygoing and is a devoted Laurel district resident. It's exciting to see the Laurel district coming to life and this shop is one of the innovative businesses helping it along. They also hold workshops on a whole range of art/maker topics. The creative energy here is irresistible! We need more art to keep our spirits alive...stop in Mischief for a boost. read more

Walking into this place was a pleasant surprise, until a conversation about how much safer the community is now that more white people are here made me realize that as a black man I wasn't safe in that shop. The conversation appeared to be between the a customer and what appeared to be a owner. Now I'm not saying that the owner is responsible for the words of her customer, but she surly lost me as a patron. Do better Mischiefffff!!! read more

Nothing like finding a shop that carries unique gift items that are locally sourced too. Last time in went, I picked up the cutest fox fuzzy purse for my niece and a miztera butter that was scented with mango, frankenscence, and mhyr. Brings me back home to the scent of churches and tropical fruits. She carries a variety of goods including gift cards, chocolates, home goods, decor, and clothing. They also host craft and art workshops. Will be back the next time I need more butter, feel like treating myself, or need a gift! read more

A neat little shop with goods made from local artisans. Great place to find a unique gift for someone! They also have crafting classes throughout the month. I did the shibori tea towel class and had so much fun! For $50, I got to learn how to dye three tea towels with indigo ink and got to go home with them. Me and my daughter who is six picked up food from next door and sure enough my daughter saw the inviting deco through the windows so right away I sensed oh oh problem. She insisted on checking it out so I gave in. Wow I'm glad I did because this shop reminds me of haight street stores and it's here in my neighborhood. I am so excited but we have to leave right away because I am afraid my daughter might break something. I plan on going back without her so I can concentrate more .
