I had a great experience snowshoeing at the Northstar Cross Country Center!…read more I purchased a pass for $71 (steep, but cheaper than skiing so whatever!) and road the gondola up to the center. It was easy to get there from the village and there is clear signage directing guests to the center. Plus, the gondola is scenic and fun! The staff were super friendly and helpful. They reviewed the trail map with me and gave me route recommendations based on the trail conditions following a week of heavy snow. The center is equipped with hot water and clean restrooms. I especially appreciated the Caboose Warming Hut along my route - it was such a treat enjoying a warm beverage in a snowy meadow as I took a break from snowshoeing. There were plenty of scenic trails to explore and I enjoyed the views of the lake about 3.5 miles from the center. I brought my own snowshoes and trekking poles, but they have rental gear if needed. This was a fun way to spend the day while my friends went skiing. Definitely beats waiting in the village. ;)

The booking process was easy, the staff was friendly and responsive, and all of the follow-up emails and confirmations made everything feel well organized. The location was also fantastic and made it easy to get around during the event. There were only a couple of minor downsides. The biggest one was the lack of air conditioning in the main living area. There was a portable A/C unit in the bedroom, which helped while sleeping, but it was fairly loud. During the day, the living room stayed quite warm until the evening cooled things off. I ended up leaving the windows and patio door open most of the time for airflow. I also couldn't quite figure out how to properly lock or secure the patio door when it was closed. It may have just been user error, but some simple instructions would have been helpful. One other note, while not really the property's fault. They recommended a shuttle service from the Reno airport. Booking online was easy enough ($95 from RNO), but after receiving my confirmation email I tried calling, texting, and even reaching out via WhatsApp several times with a couple of questions and never received a response. Thankfully, the shuttle did show up (about 10 minutes late), and everything worked out. Other than those few things, I really enjoyed my stay and would absolutely stay here again. Having a full kitchen was a nice bonus, and next time I'd probably arrange for a grocery delivery instead of eating out for every meal. It would save a fair bit of money, especially if you're staying for a conference or event.

They were taught by the very best, Coach Patty! She is phenomenal and did great with our girls. Our girls had so much fun and improved so much from start to finish that they're now chairlift ready. Highly recommend taking your little ones here for lessons. I also want to note that they have a brand new lodge and it's awesome. Everything is new, clean, and nice. We ate lunch here as well and the food wasn't bad either. We'll definitely be back to take the girls skiing again!

Its highest elevation is below 7,400' feet. By comparison Vail's lowest elevation is more than 8,000' feet. Skiing here does occur on mountainous terrain but with well under 200 skiable acres compared to 5,300 at Vail. This is a small-scale resort and certainly cute. Those accustomed to Colorado or European skiing might find it limited. That said, it has all the makings of a perfect place to learn the sport especially if it's a child skier or beginner.

The mountain offers everything from mom runs, to terrain parks, to the more challenging runs for expert skiers. It wasn't crowded during our visit and there are two high-speed 6-person lifts, so the lines were short. We stayed at the Hyatt Place in Reno, that's only about 25 minutes away, and has a great free breakfast. The roads were clear, so it was any easy drive to the slopes from our hotel. It's a great family resort, with a lot to offer.

It's the perfect medium-sized mountain: big enough to explore all day, but dialed enough to avoid the sprawl and commuting lift-to-lift. The terrain mix is legit too, from mellow groomers to steep lines and playful powder zones. A place that still feels like skiing should. If anything, I'd love to see how they continue building on the upgrades.

Our season pass also applies to Northstar, acquired in October 2010, and Kirkwood, acquired in April 2012. I am very happy with all the acquisitions; I feel I am getting a better value from my season pass. But now that I am a loyal Mt Rose customer, it gets harder and harder to come to the Vail/Epic resorts... Quality/Quantity - My favorite lifts and runs are at Heavenly Ski Resort. And more specifically, at the Stagecoach lift!! Long lift, long run, less people. Too bad the season is over and the NV side is closed. And due to the poor season and lack of snow, we needed to shuttle from the Sky/Canyon lift to the Gondola chairs (Dipper and Comet lifts)?!?! Lastly, the Tamarack lift opened half an hour late, not until 9:30am! Today was my worst day at Heavenly EVER!! Two seasons ago, I broke my vertical record with my daughter!! And on a Sunday! Ambiance - See above. Public paid parking lots. But today, my wife dropped me off and went to the lake house to relax. Well to check on the property. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 4pm. Service - Plenty of employees today, thank you. Price - I have a season pass. But due to the poor season and me being too lazy to drive an hour to ski, I have only used it once. If you're not into skiing and just want to enjoy some fall hiking and quiet hot tubs, I recommend booking in mid October. However, the gondola and most restaurants and shops are closed. We booked and three bed and three bath and really enjoyed the space. There is also a fully stocked kitchen, full size refrigerator and freezer, a washer and dryer, and plenty of common space. We could have stayed for a month and all been very comfortable. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that the service was somewhat lacking. This could have been due to the off season, but we had an odd experience where cleaning staff entered our room accidentally, realized it was not an empty room, and left. However, they left our door wide open. We were gone for the day, so we don't know how long everything was open and if anyone else entered the room. Despite the issue with our room, we would happily stay here again. The cost for what you get makes it very worthwhile.

Their CS needs allot of work in communications. Asked them to follow up on a few requests, but disappeared and NEVER called back. - Things were broken in the room. (electronics, etc..) If you have a trust issue with customer service with booking, how can you trust buying their timeshare and they don't do this again? It was absolute nightmare what I went through and screwed up my plans! DO NOT BUY HVC! THEY NEED TO WORK ON THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE OR THEY WILL SCREW YOU!

Gotta be careful toward the top because some of it is soo loose and so deep that you get stuck like you're on the beach. Overall, still was pretty freaking sweet, especially for being free... can't beat that. Wife and I went on E bikes so the climb was really no problem, we ended up going up four times, and even took the trail all the way to Tamarack lake, which was super fun. There's lots of different options for terrain and size, some of which is a little nutty... I just wish when we went the lodge was open! Maybe it has special hours or it's only open certain days, not sure I would love to find out. If I find out, I'll update my review!

Equipment is included for kids 8 and under (size 4 and under). Steal! At that price point, this is the perfect snow day with a group of kids. For anyone outside of that range, rentals are $59 flat, whether you stay two hours or all day. Go all day to maximize your rentals! That said, the kids play area was pretty underwhelming for my kids (ages 10-12). The slopes were short, not all lanes were open, and there was only one black magic carpet running. That meant tubers, snowboarders, and skiers were all sharing it, which slowed things down quite a bit. Getting around wasn't the easiest either. There's only one entrance and exit and into the resort, so you're walking everything in while the kids carry their gear. Not terrible, but definitely inconvenient. We were told there was a tram running every 5 minutes, but it wasn't operating that day. My guess is they scale back operations on discounted days (fewer lanes open, no tram, only one black magic carpet). Parking was easy for the only entrance, which I appreciated, but it would be so much better if there was direct access to the kids area from the lot. Service was subpar. Staff weren't rude, but definitely not warm or helpful. No one showed the kids how to put on their boots or gear, and we weren't told helmets were required until my kids were already at the top of the slope, so I had to go all the way back to rentals. Also worth noting: kids 8 and under are restricted to the kids area only (no lifts or bigger slopes), which makes sense, but that wasn't clearly communicated upfront. Overall, the kids still had fun, and for $35, it's worth it. But I would only come back on a discounted day. I wouldn't pay full price for the experience as it currently is.

Be prepared for a long walk to Planet Kids if you have little ones, though there is a sleigh ride available from the Lodge to Planet Kids. Unfortunately, lunch was disappointing. The pizza was the only decent thing we ate. Both the chicken tenders and fries were very dry and stale. I'd recommend avoiding those two item for a better lunch experience.
