Five stars for the heart of this property, the staff (specifically Casey!), who go out of their way…read moreto make sure every guest feels seen and appreciated. Otherwise, though cozy and a decent stay for a family, I think the physical state of the property and amenities warrants a different rating altogether. From the moment we checked in to the moment we left, Casey seriously went out of his way to make sure our stay was great. From helping us get settled into our room and acquainted with the space, to serving up pro-level local recommendations that really enhanced our visit, there was just so much to appreciate about him, his passion for his role in hospitality, and his general demeanor. With 100% sincerity, if we had not met him during our stay, everything would've been different about our stay. The property is showing its age and in need of a freshening up. Tall weeds have entered the chat and filled what appear should be grassy areas for picnics or gathering, making them very uninviting. The exterior decking elements and facade look tired and take from the general vibes. The rooms show the same pattern to be honest. The blackout curtains don't block much. The 24-hour lights in the corridor outside the rooms passes right through it. The actual shades over them don't block it either since they don't even reach end to end, leaving a gap at the center and the edges, letting even more in. More light comes in via the bathroom window as well, though at least you can close the door there. The carpets are in the same position. It's old and stained, and in need of replacement. The credenza desk as well, with veneer that was warped and bubbled from years of spills. The lobby was kept nice and tidy, and was a very enjoyable space. We played games, made s'mores, enjoyed the bar offerings, played cornhole, ate meals, and hung out here quite a bit during our stay. It was always so nice. That said, there were signs of it being tired too, like a candy vending machine with contents older than the hotel itself. All in all, they really need to go over this property with a fine-toothed comb and bring it back to life. This could, and should, be a phenomenal property, and I can only imagine the lower ratings are because of the needs it has currently.

You have to first start with context. This is an affordable budget type motel in a tourist town…read more My expectations (and stars) look a little different. The good: The exterior reminds me of summer camp, and I love it. The reception area is a beautifully decorated, cozy, pine smelling little lodge like area. This first stop is a five star at any location budget or not. Free parking! Location was killer, walkable to almost anywhere in Tahoe City and right across from a CVS for immediate shopping needs. The beds were surprisingly comfortable. The price compared to other places The bad: Oh my god wtf is that carpet? The rooms have carpet which theoretically is a great idea in a town that snows and it can be super cold. Helps with insulation. BAD idea if the carpets are not cleaned and maintained in a way that it doesn't look like I'm walking through sludge. I was also confused because I saw the house cleaner doing rooms and she had no vacuum. It could be that comes later so don't hold me to it but that just gave me the chills. We wore shoes the entire time inside. Don't expect housecleaning services like you typically might. They offer it on request but it is clear they prefer to not do that service. I followed the instructions on how to request towels and I was required to get them from front desk myself. I'm totally fine with that just be aware of what you're walking in to. Overall I was happy, I felt the cost of the hotel matched services offered and had some areas they went above and some areas that need improvement.

An Unforgettable Birthday & Retirement Celebration!…read more Granlibakken Resort made my birthday and retirement celebration more special than I could have ever imagined. This was a surprise weekend planned by my family, and from the moment we arrived, the experience was absolutely wonderful. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. Mimi, Anika, and Joshua at the front desk greeted us with kindness and made sure our needs were taken care of. Adrian and Julio in the dining area were so friendly and attentive, helping make each meal an enjoyable experience. A special thank you to Max, who worked with my daughter and nieces behind the scenes to help coordinate the surprise party and make everything come together so beautifully. Your kindness and effort meant so much to our family. The resort itself is breathtaking. The grounds blend naturally with the Tahoe forest, surrounded by beautiful landscaping, garden flowers, and peaceful wooded scenery. The cabin-style buildings fit perfectly into the environment. It truly feels like you're camping in the wilderness--but with all the comforts and charm of a cozy resort. Our room was very clean, comfortable, and inviting. The furniture and décor created a warm, relaxing atmosphere that made it easy to feel at home during our stay. The pool area was wonderful for families. There was a great swimming pool, a kiddie pool for the little ones, and a spacious hot tub where everyone could relax and enjoy time together. It was a perfect place for children and adults alike to make memories. The breakfast buffet was delicious! Everything was fresh, hot, and prepared perfectly. It was a wonderful way to start each day. Our retirement and birthday celebration was held in a beautiful event room with a gorgeous fireplace and a large outdoor area where the children could play freely and happily. Watching our family laugh, celebrate, and enjoy each other's company made the day incredibly meaningful. I enjoyed my four-day stay at Granlibakken, and every moment was memorable. The peaceful surroundings, amazing staff, comfortable accommodations, and attention to detail made this one of the most special weekends of my life. Some vacations are enjoyable, but this one became a treasured family memory that I will carry with me forever. Thank you, Granlibakken Resort, for helping make my birthday and retirement celebration so unforgettable. I absolutely loved my stay and would highly recommend Granlibakken Resort to anyone looking for a beautiful Tahoe getaway, a family vacation, or a special place to celebrate life's important moments. I can't wait to return!

We called multiple times to request an early check-in so that we could attend our niece's rehearsal dinner. The request was never noted and the room was not ready. The staff promised to call when the room was ready, but failed to do so. We ended up being late. The hotel itself is like a bad Monet painting: very pretty from a distance, but uglier the closer you get. The signs of willful neglect are everywhere from poorly flushing toilets, old uncomfortable mattresses, chipped bathroom floors, and non-functioning irons. The only shining moment was that the iron was replaced, but mostly because of our agitation. So, there's that. It combines the disinterested service of a French restaurant with the quality of Chili's on a Sunday afternoon.

One thing to know before booking: not all of the cabins are directly on the water. There are cabins…read moreright along the water, but there are also some across the street. My husband and I originally thought we had booked one right on the water, but ours ended up being across the street. It was still a super quick walk, so it wasn't a big deal, but if waking up directly to the lake is important to you, definitely double-check which cabin you're booking. We stayed here for three nights and had a great time. The location is honestly one of the best parts. You are so close to the water, and it's a really nice spot for a family trip, a weekend getaway, or just somewhere comfortable to stay while enjoying the area. I wouldn't necessarily call it a romantic cabin getaway, but it was perfect for what we needed. Another thing to keep in mind is that there are certain times of the year when the cabins don't have the AC running. We visited in the middle of September, and it did get a little warm during the day, but the temperature cooled down a lot at night and we slept great. They also provided fans, which helped. The cabin itself was clean and comfortable. The staff was kind and helpful when we interacted with them, although I wouldn't say the service necessarily went above and beyond. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it, especially for the location. Just make sure you double-check your cabin location when booking if being directly on the water is important to you.

FYI, not all rooms are the same, some of her cousins don't have a kitchen nor air conditioner just a fan and a mini fridge. So do your research. The good part is the place is also dog friendly but please make sure to book a dog friendly room. Each cabin and Lodge have there own assigned parking space. It also has a Tesla/ electric car charging spot The property has a outside picnic area with two barbecue gas grill and a fire pit. He would provide us trash bag for our trash we had our barbecue at night and also provide the marshmallow and cracker for s'mores making for the kids every night. Overall, it was an enjoyable little mini vacation stay and on last night we even spotted a bear roaming past the property. We would definitely stay here again and Thanks again to Liam for his service for making this even better. I personally highly recommend stay here.
