9/26: Today I received a letter from management regarding people smoking in my building. I'm not a smoker and have noticed they have been leaving cigarette butts around the area. So I appreciate that management has taken the initiative to solve the issue.
HOWEVER, they went about it the wrong way. How can they ethically send out a letter stating "you CANNOT smoke in the breezeways nor discard any trash or debris on the common elements"? Then towards the end of the letter they state, "If you're going to create degradation of the community, you have chosen the wrong place to live".
This is not only rude, but it's unethical. Mary Bush and her staff go around from door to door putting paper notifications in every single door including the apartments that are used as vacation homes. Even Mary herself mentioned that the unit next to me is used as a vacation home.
Why is this a problem? Because the tenants are not there to remove the paperwork from their doors. For the last 10 months I've lived here, I've had to pick up countless trash and debris left by management in the form of notifications (normally 2 or more pages each) because the wind pushes them off the doors.
That's called LITTERING according to every dictionary in the history of mankind: "make (a place) untidy with rubbish or a large number of objects left lying about". Yet they dare tell the tenants and renters that the can't do what they're doing themselves?
If management if making a mistake, then they turn around and make an unethical and rude complaint about people doing the same thing they are, that's being ignorant and idiotic.
Plus, have they never heard of email campaigns? They should try to incorporate that. It will prevent the problem of littering from their end and it's a better form of communication. Save the trees!
So, yes, it bothers me that they even dare write a letter like this. This is not only a concern to me but to every person in this neighborhood.
And I'm not the only one picking up the management's trash, I've seen my neighbors picking up the same notifications from this building and others that flew off.
When I sent Mary Bush an email regarding this, she responds with coercion, which is a form of harassment, and letting me know what the rules are.
I did absolutely nothing wrong. I followed their rules of communication, and emailed her my concern.
As a renter of my unit, she's supposed to handle all concerns. She has gracefully done so since the last issue we had, but she didn't this time. Why?
Because the problem wasn't the tenants or the renters, it was her and her staff?
She's extremely discriminatory in what she does and as a manager, it's insane that she even has a job. Was I her boss, she would've been fired a long time ago.
Keeping a neighborhood nice and clean doesn't justify that you treat people like shit. It's inhumane and barbaric.
I'm an extremely just person and when I see injustice, it boils my blood. It's a good thing that letter wasn't directed at me as I don't smoke.
However, she was in the wrong in how she responded to my concern regarding her and her staff. She simply needed to respond with:
"Thank you so much for your concern. I wasn't made aware that this was happening, but I will speak with my staff and management to make sure our notifications don't litter the halls or area near your building.
I apologize for any issues this might have caused you or any other person in the neighborhood. We will be taking action to correct this as soon as possible." (less than 2 minutes to write)
Or simply enough, she didn't have to respond at all.
She made the decision to respond and that's her responsibility. Her decisions, or the consequences of them thereof, are not my concern or problem. If she feels responding to my emails is a waste of time, as she mentioned in one of her email responses, then she shouldn't have responded at all.
Not to mention that if something is wrong, it's wrong. It doesn't matter who's doing it, and as a manager of this complex, it's her job to solve the issues no matter who's in the wrong. She's not supposed to discriminate and only care about the tenants and renters mistakes. She must also take action to solve issues regarding the behavior and the actions of her staff and management.
It's no wonder people don't respect her or her staff. Who would with that way she treats them?
I've had to deal with many pissed off customers in my lifetime, but I have never disrespected them, invalidated them or treated them like they were nothing. Human beings are human beings. If she expect people to even listen to her, she needs to learn to respect others and treat them with decency. read more
